Nickviola | 1019 comments I think it’s on there just mislabeled as Book One issues 1-3 but if you read the description it says 1-15, you can find it in my books.

You’re right. I was able to find yours and then look for other editions and found the Variant. Now to find a way to get goodreads to update/correct it.

I’m such a sucker for variants but if I have extra cash laying around, I might go for the regular DLX too and keep it at the office (regular has the better cover IMO)

Both editions are on IST for $28. Everyone should drop this in their cart for their next order. That’s a lot of book for a great price IMO

Donovan | 1154 comments I wasn’t a fan of Low OR Black Science. But I do love Deadly Class, Tokyo Ghost, and Fear Agent.

Nickviola | 1019 comments I picked up Secret Invasion, Ex Machina, and Shield: the Human Machine.

I got Shield: Architects of Forever off ebay a few days ago and it was so good I decided to get Human Machine and if they ever combine them I’ll swap out the little books for the thicker version. They are really nicely done though with a faux leather brown hardcover and has a lot of extras like in between issue transcripts of conversations between characters and journal entries, etc. Maybe those were in the single issues, but if not it was a nice addition by Hickman even in a thin hardcover.

Also, now I really want a Nathaniel Richards/Howard Stark dedicates buddy cop book, they are fantastic together and I’ve never seen them written this way. If there is other material of them I should get let me know (caveat: if they are in the rest of Hickmans FF/Avengers I haven’t read it because still waiting for the FF1 Omni.

I think the #1-3 is in reference to the three TPB volumes includes within the volume. I think I am actually the person that added the variant cover for the LOW HC on Goodreads.

I also usually go for the variant covers. LOW might be the first time I'm not sure I made the right call. Not sure I like the brown cover better than the regular.

Erik, have you tried the Deadly Class HC by Remender yet? Second volume comes in October IIRC. My favorite Remender creator owned is probably still Fear Agent. That might be a bit unfair comparison with his current books as Fear Agent is more of a complete story.

Got all my stuff moved. Now to unpack.

message 4313: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Yeah for Marvel I almost always get the cover with the old original art, I think that’s always the variant. For Image and others I am more likely to get the regular cover because they are already so good usually.

Anyone have any wish lists for upcoming hardcover announcements??

I try to do the same: get the cover with the original art.

Excited hoping for either reprints from Marvel (Silver Surfer, Uncanny X-Force and Mighty Thor V1) or continuing with some of their current classic stuff (Avengers V3, Uncanny X-Men V4, Amazing Spider-Man V4).

There's just fewer and fewer new books that I'd like to have in HC...

message 4315: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Yeah, the old Marvel Omni's I need reprinted are Silver Surfer, Might Thor V1, The X-Men V1, and I have Claremont/Lee's X-Men V1&2 but only in Italian so I'd be 50/50 on picking up reprints. I wouldn't mind Iron First or Alias if they reprinted.

Otherwise, I would love to see: Uncanny X-Men V4, Amazing Spider-man V4, New Mutants, Excalibur and I have been waiting to collect Aaron's Thor run so that would be cool if they finally transitioned from hardcovers to Omnis.

I'm still unpacking and slowly setting things up. I have more room and a much better set up for books. However, I'm not sure the additional room is as good for art and statues. I may still be a week or so out. :)

Coming on IST tomorrow:

Batman 66 omnibus
Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II (standard size?)
Beatles Yellow Submarine
Deadpool by Daniel Way Omnibus no 2
EC Archives War Against Crime HC
Flash Rebirth DLX 3 (not sure this is right)
Spider-Man Kraven's Last Hunt DLX
VS TPB from Image

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Daniel Way did a long run on Wolverine telling a chunk of his earlier history in Wolverine Origins. I would have expected that run to get printed in omnibus format before Deadpool.

I surprised VS got their TPB so fast. I literally just got the final single issue this last week. The art was good (Esad Ribic) with interesting world building but I wanted more to the story.

message 4323: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

I didn't read all of it but the wolverine origins was pretty crappy which may be why it hasn't been collected.

I think it is all about what sells. The Clone Saga/Ben Reilly material sold well enough in Epic collections they believed folks would buy it in Omnibus format. They must have been right since we got both omnibus volumes for Clone Saga and have Reilly solicited. It would be cool to see more publishing numbers. I am curious if these were on the lower end of copies printed.

Picked up METABARON-HC-BOOK-02-TECHNO-CARDINAL-AND-TRANSHUMAN.

The Ultimate collection, which is out of print, seems to expensive to on the 2nd market. Does anyone have any info on the rest of these HC? I think they did all of them, but I don’t think they are all “book 3, 4, etc”

message 4328: by Jesse (new)

Jesse A (jaathey) | 332 comments I have the regular HC of the complete edition. Its the same height as a regular HC but wider. Its a good edition. The same size as what is listed as the supreme collection of Technopriest. $40 on Amazon.

I wish stuff like this was rare but DC and Marvel mess this stuff up way too often.

DC keeps changing their logo. The Johns Green Lantern omnibus volumes have printings with two different logos. Mine all match but not everyone else's does. My Johns Flash omnibus volumes have different DC logos on the spine.

Nickviola | 1019 comments The Human Machine also doesn’t have the interstitial stories and pieces the other HC has, that said, it’s one of the better reads of the past year for me.

I ordered my copy a week ago today and it's showing expected delivery of Monday. It usually takes a week so a few extra days this time around for some reason. Good to hear good things about it. :)

Anyone read the Batman 66 material? Is it campy?

There is a new Astro City HC (Broken Century) coming to IST on Tuesday.

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Added some OHC and HC goodness lately.

Mind MGMT #1 - Reading now, compelling.
The Crusades, Image DLX #1 and #2 - Love or hate Kelley Jones art
Casanova DLX #1 - I am expecting nothing, but still looking forward to it.
Come Again - Nate Powell. Strangely interesting, however not for everybody I guess.

And some standards:
Secret Invasion Omnibus
Batman Morrison Omnibus

Nice additions. I liked the first volume of Mind MGMT but haven't picked up any of the other volumes. Maybe if I keep waiting it will be collected in Library Editions? Either than or one of them will go OOP and be terribly expensive. :)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Nice pickups!!

After much drama I found a Hickman FF Vol. 1 on amazon sellers for 180 and picked it up after getting pictures verifying it’s quality.

One whale down!

message 4336: by Karsten (new)

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Thanks guys and congrats on that whale!

I am due to give feedback to my IST experience the other month. I‘ve ordered three books (Morrison Batman, Absolute Black Dossier and Walking Dead Omnibus 3) from IST on 9th of July via snail mail to Germany.
The package arrived today, so it took a total of 34 days including customs checkup.

The books were EXCESSIVELY safe packaged, foil wrapped, bathed in those little package foam thingamobs and came in a huge parcel, additionaly put inside a thick plastic bag. As one would expect, no damage or dent noticeable on the books, but wow, thinking of the environment is not a criteria IST is putting much thought into.

I am continously disappointed by Amazon packaging, which is always lacking. But one of our local resellers from Netherland also does neat and tight packaging with old newspapers and stuff, which is exponentially less waste than that of IST.

So. Delivery time was slower than announced (34 days instead of 16), huge amounts of needless waste, however totally safe and solid packing. For me it was a one time experience, even if I have saved around $45 overall.

Today's releases on IST:

Astro City Broken Century (standard size HC)
Guardians of the Galaxy OHC vol 5
Kill or Be Killed TPB vol 4
Legend Tank Girl HC
Marvel Masterworks Incredible Hulk vol 12
Moorcock Library HC vol 2 Queen of Swords (standard size?)
Seven Soldiers by Grant Morrision Omnibus
TMNT Bodycount HC

Karsten, glad your books made it to you safe. I know a lot of times those boxes get thrown around a lot and IST is usually the safest place to purchase and ensure you get your books in pristine condition. Having to wait so long is a bummer though.

Nick, I really enjoyed the Hickman Fantastic Four run. I hope you love it too. :)

message 4339: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Thanks! I’m pretty probably going to have a slower few months considering now I have 4 Hickman omnibuses to get through!

Regarding IST: their packing is so good that if they offered human shipping I’d use them to send my son to whenever we go on vacation to not deal with a 2 year old on the plane :)

Did anyone read Morrison's Seven Soldiers of Victory back in the day that can share their thoughts? Do the different mini-series build on each other or are they all standalone stories? Is the omnibus worth picking up?

All the minis crossover in indirect ways. None of the heroes meet up directly. It's a very cool experiment in how loosely you could define a superhero team or team up. Though one thing I should mention is that one of the series is almost entirely superfluous because it's all setup for Final Crisis. You'll figure that out when you read it, but aside from that one all the others are incredibly good and radically different. I would recommend this series, especially at the IST release week price. It's practically robbery for how good SSoV is.

Rye | 2 comments This month alone I've ordered:
52 omnibus
all 3 Green Lantern by Geoff Johns omnis
Wonder Woman by George Perez vol 1
Golden Age Superman vol 1 and Golden Age Batman vol 1 omnis
Dial H deluxe edition
DC one million omnibus
and the first 3 IDW tmnt collections

This is all due to selling my video game collection and getting some birthday money a month early.

Guys and Gals I have a problem. I searched through coming soon on IST and there is only 1 or 2 books in the next couple months that I will be picking up. So instead of doing the right thing and saving a penny, last night Ebay got me with FF Hickman Vol 1&2, Ultimate Metabarons, Darktower Slipcase Omnibus 1&2 (first one and gunslinger).

Silver lining, I activated the 8% Ebay bucks so it will result in nearly $100 credit.

I think I need a break. I did this with statues years back, then had kids and sold the statues to prepay the college fund. College fund done . . . And now my wife who was so happy the Statue collecting was pretty much done and most of it gone (still have too many IMO) is looking at all these books. At least she sees me reading them nearly every day.

Vent over. Please tell me how many Hail Marys and Our Fathers and I’ll get back to trying to lead a normal life.
