Growing up i heard Batman say many time that what an honor to have mental of Bat, and now, a cow has it... how can you anymore mock the Batman than that...

I actually forgot Bat-Cow was a thing. I lean towards thinking both Snyder and Morrison's runs got weaker at the end after strong starts. I haven't actually read all of Snyder's run since Batman Eternal only came out in TPB and I bought all the standard size HCs. Hopefully someday in a couple years they do Snyder's run in full in omnibus format.
In the meantime, a couple years ago we were talking about how there were zero Batman omnibus volumes and DC was leaving a lot of money on the table. They have reversed that trend and we should have over a dozen omnibus volumes by the end of the year (5 Golden Age, Knightfall x3, Tomasi, Neal Adams, Arkham Asylum, and Batman 66. Technically Gotham Central should count too?).
I'd love to see Batman War Zone in the nearish future as I haven't read that storyline.

I mean isn’t Batman’s main villain a guy in clown paint who laughs maniacally all the time, there have to be some old Batman stores with him doing some pretty stupid things that rival a bag cow.

Way back when this discussion started only three writers were listed: Morrison, Snyder and King.
Is Frank Miller too long ago? Or is it that he only wrote a couple stories (although arguably genre and industry defining.)
Just throwing out some other names: Tomasi, Dixon, Brubaker, Denny O'Neill, Paul Dini, Jeph Loeb. Any of those spark up a different debate?
Or to look at it another way, what are some stories that define the type of Batman you like? I agree with Ozan's list except for maybe Arkham Asylum.

Add Long Halloween to my list as well, how could i forget Loeb but it was only top of my head... Year One and Year 100 are amazing too.

Year One is a big one for me. I liked Long Halloween and need to reread Dark Victory again.

I should probably reread it before saying this but I enjoyed No Man's Land. Not sure if it still stands the test of time. If you can get past the initial implausibility, the rest was very creative.
I think Morrison, Snyder, and King were mentioned mainly because they are the modern front men for writing Batman, but certainly not the only people writing even during their own time. Tony Daniels wrote a couple books around Batman RIP that I have on my shelf that really helped fill in natural questions you had because of what was happening in the main book.
Now that I've thought about it for a minute or so, Morrision's middle of his Batman run (RIP and death of Damien) is probably his strongest part of his run while Snyder's strongest was probably his beginning. Obviously King is still writing so there is not way to compare run to run (I didn't think he run started as strong as Snyders' did).
There are a ton of Batman writers out there when we look at the full history and Frank Miller and Loeb are two top tier folks (IMHO).

There is Rebirth Detective Comics with two DLX volumes out by James Tynion. Those are readable without having to follow King's Batman. I have yet to read Rebirth Nightwing or any of the rest of the Bat-verse books.

I tried the first two trades of Detective Comics. Okay but not my favorite either.

That was my impression for the first DLX as well, but I thought the second DLX was a step up. Perhaps in part because it focused a bit more on Azrael, a character I've usually found interesting.
DC does a fair bit of mini-series for Batman. At least if you don't like any of the main run there are those short stories. :)
Kurt Buiek is doing one now I am impatiently waiting for the final issue on (Creature of the Night). I am looking forward to reading Sean Gordon Murphy's White Night elseworld's Batman story. :)

I read the first two volumes that are collected in the Manapul/Buccellato DLX and I could barely get through them.
Big Day Semi-dissapointing Day:
Before shelving the new pick ups of the past couple months (Starman Omnibus 1-5, Grant Morrison Batman Omnibus, Silver Age Flash Omnibus vol. 1, Avengers Hickman Vol 2, Batman TMNT DLX, Dr. Strange Sorcerer Supreme Omnibus Vol. 2, Wilson HC, Ex Machina Complete Omnibus, Abe Sapian Drowning HC, Adventures of Archer & Armstrong, Fear Agent Library 1 & 2, & Boys Definitive Edition Vol. 3.)
I finally had to come to terms that I have no more visible shelf space and had to stick many books into cabinets . . . so no more admiration of some of these books on the fly without taking the extra effort of getting down on the floor and going through the cabinets.
So here is the new set up. Decided to put more of the DC/Marvel stuff away and keep out the other publishers as that is most of what I read these days.

Nice collection Erik. :D I really want the Valiant Deluxes but the out of stock ones are just way too oop... If you haven't read your JSA Omnis, read them after Starman. Starman is just so amazing. :D That run was what made me like The JSA. :D
Great collection on those shelves. :)
It looks like you need to add another shelf. :) I see you have space a for a couple more Absolute volumes and for the two upcoming large Conan books. The second Hickman Avengers omnibus is well worth picking up. The second Doctor Strange omnibus is out but I haven't ordered a copy yet. I still haven't read the first one. :/
I didn't know you had some custom binds. What issues of Daredevil are collected there? They look nice.
Did you read the Bendis New Avengers run? There is an OHC run of the main part which is ended with your Siege OHC. I thought it was an enjoyable read.
I traded away my copy of the Ultimate Comics Avengers omnibus (with The Ultimates omnibus for Secret Wars I & II omnibus volumes).
I am getting ready to move for the first time since 2009. I just did some math last night about how many boxes of books I am going to have. I had about 50 when I moved to my current location. If my math is on point, based on packing up one shelf last night I'm going to have 120ish boxes this time. Fortunately it isn't a long move so I can move most of it myself.

Fantastic Erik! I know you are storing books horizontally to fit into that cabinet, but I actually like seeing books that way: easier to read the spine, better for the binding. Just makes it a little difficult to remove a book from the stack.
At this point do you have any grails/white whales?

Glad to hear someone else liked Starman. I've considered getting the JSA omnis also even though I don't really know the characters. I read one story arc by Johns and liked it.

What are the upcoming two Conan books? I've missed that announcement. Thanks.

Dark Horse is printing two more Conan books the same size (though not as thick) as the Colossal Conan book with more of their material. Reportedly it is more well written content so I'm pretty excited about added them to my shelves with Colossal Conan.
Dark Horse has also printed paperback omnibus edition containing the same material (and more) as The Colossal Conan. The first volume is now OOP and getting a bit expensive (only one on Ebay I see and they want $113 for it).
Marvel is also going to reprint their old Marvel material in omnibus format though I wasn't thinking about that with my initial comment. :)

Actually, the horizontal for me is all about preservation. Thinner books can usually handle an upright position, but the big omnis . . . not gonna chance it; you're right about pulling them though.
As for grails . . . I don't think I have any left. Some books I just completely put out of my mine, like the Hickman FF books, but those are more out of curiosity, not a must have. That all being said, I'm sure I'll learn about something new from this forum . . . and then begin another hunt, but for the time being, it's just about maintenance.

That's right. The two Colossal Conans and future announced absolutes are in the IST wishlist and already have their dedicated space, reserved . . . which means more books will be hitting those cabinets soon most likely.

BTW, I did forget that my LOW DLX Vol 1 was by my bed and organized it’s spot out, so still more work to be done as that book has to be on the shelf. Loving Remender lately and the art in that book is incredible IMO

Cons are they are hard to access and reorganize. Plus the weight of the books can also warp the cover or spine/binding of books below.
I stack my Valiant books because they are relatively thin but with relatively thick covers and I don’t pull them out a lot because I’m read them all, also I can fit a few more in this way by stacking about 10 and then having 2 vertical next to them which I prefer to lots of vertical books and then one or two sitting on top of them all.
To be fair, this is a fun hobby but I have no idea if these books will hold up in 25 years or if they will be different depending on what you do.

Here’s a random question. I’ve been eyeing Sam Keith’s Maxx for years now but refuse to pay $15 for the 100 page Maxximized hardcovers and don’t want a cheap trade. What are the odds IDW will release an omnibus or OHC for this very old niche comic?
