I'm sorry to say I don't know about the book you mentioned, but would like to look at it.

Are you pretty set on a wordless book? You don't think books like Dr. Seuss would be good? They have some zany looking characters and just a few simple words . Many of them are fun to read because of the rhyming or rhythm. Hop On Pop] is the first one that comes to mind.

message 1602: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I think Seuss might be okay, depending on her reading level, although Hop on Pop is rather simple, as my 1 year old babbles through that.

If you're set on comics (with words) you could get her Bone, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, maybe even Adventure Time. Gotta have "some" words in there I think to help with reading, writing and language, and the kids that buy the kids comics in my bookstore love them.

message 1603: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments Not that she could read but the my little pony comics have helped my 8yo keep learning when struggling

I guess I misinterpreted her level, thinking she had difficulty reading vs. being able to read and just didn't want to.

I agree there should be some words in there regardless of level.

message 1605: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Well, and we try not to sell the kids short either. Honestly I think it's better to give them something that's above their reading level than below. Only way they'll learn right?

message 1606: by Jesse (new)

Jesse A (jaathey) | 332 comments My daughter is 7 and for every 2 simplistic books she reads I make her read 1 a level above her. I want her to know reading is fun but also has something to teach us or help us improve. Kids always fight challenge at that age.

message 1607: by Saugata (new)

Saugata Mukherjee | 180 comments Thanks a lot for all the ideas, as I have said I had zero idea about this! The problem is, I am not so sure whether she has the patience to seat and read a book, but on the other hand maybe I am unfairly judging the kid. So, Dr, Seuss it is, most probably The Cat in the Hat (seems to be the most popular choice.)

Take a look at The Only Child, it seems lovely and touching from the reviews and sneak peeks.

It's a wonderful thing you are trying to do. Even if she won't read herself, just somebody reading to her makes a tremendous difference.

Hop on pop is very simple and is really geared toward beginning speaking and reading as Donovan said. If she can read but doesn't want to, I personally liked If I Ran The Circus. Good luck!

For a self birthday gift you want to be good to yourself, maybe spoil yourself a bit, so it need to be a must have/must read book in a high quality format of some kind.. :D maybe a book you really want and have been looking at for a long time.
I really like the dc's absolute editions. So maybe one of those..?
Or if your more into marvel, maybe one of their omni's. :)

All-Star Superman is probably my favourite Superman story. I just picked up the Absolute myself (also Absolute Superman: For Tomorrow because it was a damn good price on Hamilton Books.)

Massive list of books in one year. Congrats. :)

I recently counted my Comic library and ended up with just over 150 omnibus/Absolute volumes and right under 160 OHCs (I lumped my Dark Horse Library editions with the omnibus numbers). I didn't count standard size or TBP volumes but I'd guess around 100 of those.

Since I bought the first one, they sent an email telling me when it was going to be available. I actually ordered about 3 hours later and obviously got one but that sold out pretty fast.

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments I haven't been interested in the Shang Chi Omnis, just not my thing. For a moment I thought about buying one simply for the value & reselling later but that goes against my scruples as a collector. I'm sure others do just that.

There's enough content for one more library edition, but nothing's been announced yet. I'm hoping it'll come soon.

message 1642: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments So 5 volumes? That's pretty good at ~400 pages each.

message 1643: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
The price (less than $25) of these Library Editions is really nice for the amount of content in the size of these books. I think the big two would be selling these for at least $75 if not $100 each. The Fear Agent two books have been my favorite content wise. Second would probably be the Aliens/Predator one.

message 1644: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments That's exactly why I've picked up three Library volumes of Goon so far, ridiculously cheap and incredible value. I can't afford to buy Absolutes for three times the price and half as long.
