I think it's a big 2 issue. Marvels omnibus volumes are pricey also. I paid $60 for a guardians of the galaxy omni about the same size.

Nice! Are you primarily a MMW collector? I have a few, but mainly the stuff they don't put into Omnibus.

Actually that is all I collect. I have 131 right now. I will probably order some more tomorrow. If you know anyone selling any hard-to-find one, please tell me. If you want, I will give you a list of ones I am looking for.
There's a buy sell trade section in this group. You can post something there and you never know if someone will sell or will let you know if there is an opportunity somewhere.
Just ordered:-Elektra Omnibus
- Sweet Tooth Deluxe Vol.3
- Usagi Yojimbo HC 2 & 3
- Complete Crepax HC 1 & 2
Hi everyone, just started posting this week and have been collecting omnibuses/hardcovers for a year... this is where I am at so far:Marvel Omnibuses: Uncanny X-Men V1-3, X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, New X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, Wolverine and the X-Men; The Fantastic Four (Lee/Kirby) V1-3, Fantastic Four (Hickman) V2; War of Kings; Captain America V1-2; Amazing Spider-Man V1-2; Doctor Strange (Lee/Ditko) V1; Uncanny Avengers, Young Avengers
Other: Saga Book 1 Deluxe, Black Science V1 Deluxe, East of West: Year 1 Deluxe, Absolute Sandman, Y:The Last Man Deluxe V1-5, Pride of Baghdad
Welcome and that's a nice start for only a year in! Feel free to post a picture of your collection in the photo section too.
Thanks, forgot to add John Byrne's FF V1&2 which are in the mail.I am not reading any DC because it would just be too much to handle... would LOVE to hear what the mandatory Marvel additions would be!
The Marvel omnibuses which I think are the best areAlias
Daredevil by bendis and Brubaker
Secret warriors
FF Hickman
New xmen by Morrison
Hawkeye
Punisher by Aaron
Infinity gauntlet
Uncanny xmen all
Thor by simonson
You have Sandman and Y the Last Man, so you're kind of dipping into DC through their Vertigo imprint. As far as mandatory reading, it's a lot of personal preference. If you're mainly looking for omnibus editions I would recommend Alias, Superior Foes of Spider-Man, any of the Captain America by Brubaker books, and Daredevil by Miller.
Yeah, I am at an interesting crossroads: I want Hickman FF V1 and Secret Warriors the most, but they are crazy expensive. I want Alias and Infinity Gauntlet but due to tv/movies I am hoping for reprints. Brubaker's Daredevil I will get this year.So... should i pick up a few more reasonable priced items: Superior Foes, and Hawkeye and new ones as they are released or save for the big ones? - not sure yet
Re: Brubaker Captain America... has this been popular enough that Death and Lives will get reprinted? It just seems like a big investment to go $100 on Captain America, $50-75 on Trial and Winter Soldier only to not be able to afford Death and Lives.By the way, loving these message boards. Some days I get a bit obsessed about growing this collection and nice to have an outlet!
Alias was just reprinted last year I believe (around when the show came out). I guess there's a small chance it'll get reprinted when the Defenders show comes out but I doubt it.
My general opinion is, if it is available now and you want it, you should get it. Many books never get reprinted so it truly is your only chance to pick things up. If it is a better than average book, it will sell out relatively quickly so it won't pay to wait.
Also, keep an eye on the lists we have here for what is coming out. Most stuff is 40-50% off the first week it is released and that's when you want to pick stuff up, so do your homework and decide early what you want.
If you are in the US, we recommend instocktrades.com and an alternate is cheapgraphicnovels. If you are UK there are two or three that some here recommend speedyhen.com I think is one of them.

Question about instocktrades: Do they list something for sale only on the day it comes out? Meaning, no ordering before the book is actually in stock?

On Tuesdays at 3 PM EST, they list all of the new books for that week. As soon as you see it on the website you can order it. From this point to the next Tuesday they will remain on sale, the "big" stuff at 50% off and the rest usually between 30 and 45% off.
IST gets things about a week before Amazon and other traditional book sellers so sometimes you might see a difference in street date.

If I find a good price on something out of print I might go for it but when you're starting your collection it's not a bad idea to grab what you can at reasonable prices rather than spending a lot on one book.

Most of my collection comes from learning here.
Enjoy, you've had a great start.
Thanks, everyone! Appreciate all the well wishes and advice! So I agree that I'll focus on what's in stock... all I currently wanted on IST was Ms Marvel and Cap: Return of Winter Soldier (guess I'll be collecting that back to front!) so those are now en route!
Probably done with IST until 2/14.
Just clarifying on Brubaker's Captain America omnis: 1 has been reprinted, while 2 and 3 have not by are probably due for a reprint?
Yes v1 was reprinted but if they were going to reprint the others I think they would have done it by now after three cap films.
Good point. Well I will try to get Volume 1 and have plenty of reading before I need any other volumes so I'll hope for a good price down the line or get lucky with reprints.

Ha!

Ha!
I am very very new to this but seems especially strange. Maybe its in the order of anticipated demand?
From what I understand, they had initially planned to do War of Kings and Realm of Kings, but fan demand led to the addition of the prelude omnibus. Thus, due to War and Realm being underway already, Prelude is out of order. Better to be out of order rather than being omitted.

New Avengers question So, I have had a blitz the last 2 months trying to catch up my small collection and as mentioned got Byrne's FF v.1 and 2, Uncanny Avengers, Ms. Marvel, Capt America 1 & 2, Amazing Spiderman 1 &2.
I thought I was done, but on eBay I found Fall of the Mutants for less than 70, Inferno Prologue for 40, and Trial of Captain America for 35 so i couldnt resist.
I really want to be done until the 2/14 releases, but there is a store (selling multiple copies) of New Avengers Omnibus for 54 (shipping included). Is this worth picking up? I read very little Avengers and have a mixed experience with Bendis.
Personally, I thought it was the best part of Hickman's run. It had the most drama, heavy ideas and themes, as well as action. However, the story intermingled with the avengers title which leads to the infinity event then to time runs out and finally to secret wars. SW is a major event for marvel and a little bit required. Just know that NA is only part of the story.
I could be wrong but I think the New Avengers Omnibus is Bendis' run from around Civil War, not the most recent new avengers by Hickman. Hickmans Avengers and New Avengers are being mixed into a common Avengers Omni (Hickman) Vol. 1 in the summer. The one I am considering is the Omni of the old Bendis run that's already been out a while.
I enjoyed Bendis' New Avengers Omni. Ultimately it's up to your budget to decide. Personally I have a rough monthly comic book budget I allow myself and try not to exceed it otherwise I'd be buying everything that seems like a good price.
