What have you added to your collection recently?
Yes, thank you! I saw that for sale and wouldn't mind having it.
If anyone has one of those marvel adamantium/platinum books I would love to see a comparison pic between that and some other books.

Let me know how Ivan, Timewalker is. I fell off after 4 issues but am interested to give it another go.Also, anyone know a way to get Archer & Armstrong Deluxe Vol 1?

Ivan the Timewalker should be able to pick up some copies at cover price. :p

I do the same - I get the ones that aren't likely to make it into an omnibus. There are several I need to go back and get - Marvel Team-Up, Black Panther, etc. I like the MMW s, they're just expensive for the number of issues that are normally in one volume.
Donovan wrote: "Just won a like new Invincible Ultimate Collection Vol. 1 SIGNED by Kirkman for $18.50 on eBay."What's the best format for Invincible? I heard one of the big formats wasn't going to be completed?? Is that true?
I own a few of the off the beaten path MMWs Champions, Spider-Woman, the new Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man...
Nickviola wrote: "What's the best format for Invincible? I heard one of the big formats wasn't going ..."The larger slipcase editions seem to have stopped, which is why I've decided to buy the regular hc editions (titled Ultimate Collection).
I believe it's similar to Walking Dead, but maybe someone who owns them could chime in? Walking Dead: trade paperback, OHC (two paperbacks), OHC omnibus, and compendium paperbacks. The compendiums are the best value, but the OHC are a solid moderate choice, oversized and hardcover without being heavy or expensive, which is how I'm collecting The Walking Dead and, if I like Invincible, how I'll collect that.
But I could be wrong.
Re invincible, i've got all the ultimate edition OHC's, but first i owned the compendiums. You get a small amount of extra material with the OHC's, but i'm gonna sell them and get the compendiums again i think. There are also superior library editions you can get, which are quiote rare and exprensive.

I picked up Harbinger Vol 1&2, Ivan Timewalker, and A&A Vol 2 (while I can get it for cover!!)
If (in the unlikely event) anyone spots a reasonably priced A&A Vol 1 I'd love to hear about it! Thanks in advance!
I've just looked at the Canada amazon. The price has gone up a ridicuoous amount so i must have got the last one. Still waiting though for stock :S I really hope i get it.
Cheese wrote: "Did you not get A&A from amazon Canada? I did."No for whatever reason it's always been listed in the $300s (crazy) for me so I obviously never got it. At least the US Amazon has copies for about 125 but obviously still not paying that either.
Hope your copy comes through!
For Masterworks I have the first 13 Fantastic Four, all the Captain America (vol 9 coming in a couple months), Captain Marvel 1, 7 or 8 Avengers volumes, and the first vol of X-Men. I stopped buying the Fantastic Four when they changed the spine. They are the highest quality books Marvel makes but they are also a bit expensive.
Not a lot of big omnibus type releases this week.
But there are some TPB releases I might be interested in as a way to check out things. Valiant has Britannia, a Roman Britain detective story (outside their main universe I'm guessing). Image has Copperhead TPB vol 2, LOW TPB vol 3, Intersect TPB vol 1, Jupitar's Circle TPB vol 2, King City TPB, Arclight (edit, next week) and Eclipse, a story about a future world where sunlight kills and someone is using it to murder people.
DC does have the Jim Starlin (Mignola art) DLX released today. Dark Horse has the He-Man Minicomic HC reprint.

No plans for purchases this week.Relevant to our previous Valiant discussions, Amazon canada cancelled my order for a copy of Quantom and Woody Deluxe Vol 1 that I had ordered for $28 through them. Luckily found a $32 copy on (regular) Amazon today so ordered that.
I've got nothing to read so I just ordered Fear Agent Library V2 and Fatale Deluxe V1 & V2. Been meaning to buy Brubaker for forever.
Donovan wrote: "I've got nothing to read so I just ordered Fear Agent Library V2 and Fatale Deluxe V1 & V2. I agree with Criminal, but sadly the deluxe editions are oop. I would also prescribe Sleeper Omnibus.
Agreed. I'd read sleeper first because it's not their best. Criminal is amazing but The Fade Out may be on par if not better
Didn't think I'd start a Brubaker discussion : ) I've read the Deluxe Fatale V1 and Criminal V1, but don't own them, they were library reads. Criminal is my favorite so far and I will love to own them when Image hurries up and prints the Deluxe editions. (Side note, the Marvel editions pale by comparison to Image's quality, so I'm gonna wait and save $200.) I also have Fade Out V1 and Velvet V1 on hold at the library before I jump in the Deluxes.
Pim & Francie: The Golden Bear Days by Al Columbia (Fantagraphics) and Spider-Gwen vol 1 OHC by LaTour and Rodriguez came in this week, and if Amazon aren't just sending me up the garden path again, supposedly my copy of War of Kings Aftermath: Realm of Kings comes on monday.Incidentally, whoever has lumped the Spider-Gwen OHC (ISBN 9781302903718) in with the TPB volume 1 editions needs to sort themselves out, I can't add the book properly and I'm not inclined to add it to my GR library in this mess.
I put in a lowball offer for a new copy of the X-Static Omnibus on eBay without much thought and it got accepted so that's on the way!And if anyone is interested, someone has copies of Archer and Armstrong, Rai, and Book of Death for 125 each or best offer. Obviously a high ask but thought some of you may be willing to make the reach.

That looks awesome; I've got 18 Artist's Editions, but the one glaring absence is a Kirby book, with the exception of 'The Best of DC War', which featured about 30pgs of original art stories. There's no shortage to choose from, but the Thor AE is the only one that isn't a 12" x 17" format. For Thor, Kirby decided to use the massive 15" x 22" pages, which I love.
I've started to appreciate Kirby's art more thanks to this book I picked up last week, a 10 x 13-inch, 400-page collection of stories shot from the original art pages from the Simon/Kirby studio; I can't believe the 'The Art of the Simon and Kirby Studio' hasn't gotten more attention:
I'm also waiting for the America's Best Comics Artist's Edition and Chris Samnee Daredevil A.E. to arrive soon, and the Alex Toth AE, when it ships.
But I'm still most excited for the Prince Valiant Studio Edition, which will be the One that Rules them All. 200 pages of original art from one of the greatest Cartoonist-Illustrators to ever draw breath... or draw on paper. It's kept being pushed back for over a year now, so hopefully Fantagraphics' first original art facsimile will be perfect and problem free. It's also going to be considerably larger than any AE, which are 15" x 22"; Prince Valiant will be 17" x 24"... which makes it TWICE the size of the 12" x 17" AE:
-The 12" x 17" = 204-square-inches
-The 17" x 24" = 408-square-inches
If you're a fan of awkward, unwieldy books that make reading more exciting through the possibility of death, injury, or a critical bookshelf malfunction that triggers a total library cascade failure, breaking the rusty iron clasp holding the Necronomicon shut, and releasing the Lovecraftian monstrosities who will be humanity's end... then yeah, this gigantic AE's going to be fun on a bun.
That Prince Valiant AE sounds amazing. I haven't picked up any AEs yet though the DC War one looks great, as do the Steranko volumes.
Yep, It feels like I've been waiting a year and a half for the Prince Valiant book. I have, actually. The first Steranko book is one of the top 5 so far, and well worth the price if you're a Steranko fan. You can see the rapid evolution from talented Kirby acolyte to one of the most original artists of the period, and every page is genius... even the dozen or so pages that couldn't be shot from the originals. The only 'downside' to the upcoming Nick Fury/Captain America AE is that it'll be a 12" x 17", instead of the 15" x 22", but that's not a huge deal... it just would have been nice to keep both books more uniform, like the EC books and Spirit books. But in the first Steranko book, he shifts from the big art-boards to 12" x 17" pages at about the 75-80% mark, and that's when his art becomes more streamlined and design-oriented. The second book should be pure prime Steranko.
So an edition question for y'all. I have to own Long Halloween in a nice edition. My TPB ain't cutting it. Should I go for the Noir or Absolute? Does anyone own the Noir? The noir subject matter and artwork is totally setup for black and white, but Absolute obviously is way bigger...
I don't own any Noir editions, but the ones I've flipped through haven't impressed me enough to buy them. I love absolute editions on the other hand, both for the oversized art and the clean look on the shelf. That's my personal preference, but I see your point about the subject matter suiting the noir look.
War of Kings Aftermath omnibus has just arrived and it looks fantastic. Can't wait for the prelude now so I can finally start reading them!
Thinking about buying Morrison's The Invisibles. But I'm torn between the gigantic omnibus and the deluxe hardcovers. Anyone own either of these?
I thought about it and then changed my mind after reading volume one. It's just too Morrison for me.
LOL. For sure. It's supposed to be one of his self-indulgently weirdest, but, also his most allegorizing. I'm leaning toward the hardcover volumes for smaller size and safer binding. The omnibus is TEN pounds!
