Nickviola | 1019 comments Alpha Flight is an interesting one because John Byrne hates it but he obviously has a difficult relationship with his old Marvel work. That said, I love John Byrne and reading Uncanny you get a window into some of the Alpha Flight characters and its enough that I want more. Ultimately, because its related to the X-Men and its Byrne makes it a no brainer for me.

I also want WoK and Daredevil but was also planning to pick up some Valiant Deluxes soon (XO, Ninjak, Bloodshot, Dr Mirage) and Deadly Class v1 so still deciding how to divide all this up.

I may hold off on WOK but I really hate losing that first week discount. It's a little bit of a risk for me to pick up WOK, not having read any of it AND still waiting for the prelude.

I wouldn't mind owning the Absolute Wonder Woman and finally read that straight through.

Too many to list, but if you want some eye candy (about 1/4 is new and the Spiderman Clone Saga Vol 1 is laying flat on top of those X-Men) . . .

I have all the absolutes but a few . . . definitely willing to buy or trade to complete the collection.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Ok, so I splurged a bit thanks to my birthday this week. Today I ordered:

Marvel: Alpha Flight omnibus, War of Kings Aftermath omnibus
Valiant: Bloodshot deluxe Vol 1, Dr. Mirage deluxe Vol 1, The Book of Death deluxe, Divinity deluxe, the Valiant deluxe, X-O Manowar Vol 1 deluxe

message 1957: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Nice. I really enjoyed Divinity I and II. Too bad they don't offer an OHC that collects both yet.

Just received my IST order today of Manhattan Projects Deluxe V2, Saga Deluxe, and Fear Agent Deluxe V1. Gonna crack into MP first. But man, Fear Agent is a HUGE book!

Damn, you're jumping head first into the Valiant universe.

Nickviola | 1019 comments I've been reading the single issues for the past 2 years and now that I realize all the deluxes are so well thought off I'm going to drop off the single issues and just get the deluxes which may actually save money and since I don't have to wait for omnis hopefully the wait in between volumes won't be too crazy. But yeah! I'm excited to expand the collection into Valiant. Still essentially no adC (but some vertigo).

Great looking shelves Eric! Did you pick up Colossal Conan while it was still relatively cheap? I picked it up because it was recommended on Statue Marvels for about $90. Now it's commanding crazy prices but it's the biggest book in my graphic novel library and the art fills the pages pretty well.

OT: If you liked Potter and the Paolini books I can recommend a few other things for you to try. :)

message 1961: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Absoluty recommend away. I may already have them under my belt though, I only buy digital books & novels now. Comics . . . I buy both, gotta have that art in hand.

Paolini starred strong but lost me in the end. I love the second book, and was bored with the third.

Yes colossal Conan was a amazon preorder so my price was very fair. I do believe I mentioned it on SM. And my Conan VS giant Ape Exclusive is a main stay displayed in my office. Those Conans by Dark horse are a very good read.

OT: For Fantasy that has been really good over the last couple years, everything written by Brent Weeks, Scott Lynch, and John Gwynne. Weeks has one more book coming in his second series. He has fantastic logical story twists that have caught me by surprise, not something I feel a lot.

Lynch is working through his fourth book for his sole series (Gentlemen Bastards). His books are kind of a cross between fantasy and Ocean's Eleven.

John Gwynne just finished up the fourth and final book in his first series, The Faithful and the Fallen. I've imported the hardcovers from England as only the large TPBs are distributed in the US. He takes some fantasy tropes and turns them on their head while creating some characters that you care about.

Sebastien de Castell's swashbuckling series on The Greatcoats has also been good reading. :)

message 1963: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments Second Lynch his first book Lies of Locke Lamora is probably my favorite book. From a book that started slowly so many layers came together to a book that I was reading for 4 hours straight at the end (starting at 11pm).

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments Randomly ran a filtered search on a local classified after work today and ended up getting astonishing xmen omni in great shape

message 1967: by Reece (last edited Feb 02, 2017 11:11PM) (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments After Relstuart's Robocop vs Terminator find I ended up buying it for about the same price from a third party seller on Amazon. Just got it today. I knew gallery editions are huge, but I don't think pictures could've prepared me for the scale of this thing. The Sixth Gun HC is the biggest book I own as a source of comparison.

I knew they were taller but didn't realize they were wider as well. Is this your first Gallery Edition? I've never looked inside one.

message 1970: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments Yes, this is my first. It reproduces the original art in full scale. The width is necessary to showcase the original art without shrinking it down, even though many of the pages don't use the full width of the page.

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Nice snag on the gallery edition. I'd be tempted to follow suit if there were another seller there with the book that cheap. I ordered from Amazon at their inexpensive price. We'll see if they eve get any more in stock.

message 1972: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments I got it from Things From Another World for about $34. Now I see they have it listed at $59.99. Hopefully Amazon will come through for you.

The story is pretty mediocre, but the art is great in the full scale reproductions. Worth the $30ish bucks for sure.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to host the picture on a photo site then put a link into your post using certain HTML tags.

message 1978: by The Lion's Share (new)

The Lion's Share No, in the photo section you can upload. No need for the HTML stuff.

Check the size of the photo and file type.

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments Firestorm wrote: "I tried to post some pictures of my collection. The page said the images could not be saved."

Goodreads was having problems when I tried to upload my picture a couple days ago. After cropping the picture down a bit I was able to get it to upload.

Once you have it uploaded somewhere you should be able to click the "(some HTML is ok)" button and use the instructions to link to a picture in a comment if that's what you're trying to do.

Aaron Saylor | 58 comments Got Batman: Brave and the Bold vol. 1 this week, Alpha Flight omnibus arriving next week. I also ordered the Watchmen and Infinite Crisis deluxe editions - they've been out a little while but I never got around to buying them until now.

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments Firestorm wrote: "So I need to put it in another website and paste the link here?"

You can put it on another site or use the photos section of this group. Either one should work. If you want to link a photo in your comment you'll just need an image source to pull from.

message 1984: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Saylor | 58 comments I don't have Watchmen in any format, so figured it was time to remedy that.

That is quite a bit for one month! Just out of curiosity, do you by singles as well or do you just wait for trades?

message 1987: by Ronny (new)

Ronny Trøjborg | 63 comments No singles, never did :)
It's almost impossible to get singles in Denmark and I don't really like reading digital. In Denmark we always have a huge sale in the first half of January and most of the books I bought was in that period.
Most of the time I prefer waiting for hc's/deluxe/OHC/Omni
But I often buy the first trade of a series to know if I'm into it at all, especially if it's not from the big 2.

I've heard people buying tpbs at least to try them later upgrading to HCs. What do you do with the tpbs after you upgrade? Sell it? Give it away?
That's a question open to everyone.

I just always had a hard time spending that extra money and then having a stack of tpbs I no longer wanted after upgrading.

Donovan | 1154 comments Aaron wrote: "I don't have Watchmen in any format, so figured it was time to remedy that."

I gotcha. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Because there weren't any reviews for the deluxe when I bought mine. It's more durable obviously than the paperback. But the quality isn't quite what I expected, particularly the glued binding and paper.

I do that, but with comixology. I wait for comixology sale and buy first 1 or 2 volumes to test the water and then if I like what I read, I buy the OHCs. Sometimes I spend extra due to this double dipping, but it has helped me make a lot of wise decisions. In absence of this filtering method, I would have purchased a lot of "not my type" of comics just because of the hype surrounding them. Some examples are X-O Manowar and Rai.

message 1992: by Ronny (new)

Ronny Trøjborg | 63 comments I have two nephews I give my trades away to if it is age appropriate for them.
A couple of trades (mostly the more adult stuff that I can't donate to the nephews) I have given away to friends hoping they will some day they'll read it and get into comics like me (still waiting for this to actually happen)

@donovan
Thanks man.. !

Nickviola | 1019 comments Just ordered (1) Daredevil (Lee) Omnibus Vol. 1 (Kirby cover) and I am super excited for it to arrive already! Also picked up (2) Valiant's Armor Wars even though I havent picked up X-O Manowar Vol. 2 yet (which precedes it) since the events have been selling out so far ahead of the main book volumes.

First 7 days of February were expensive so I think I am done until the Waid Daredevil Omni next month.

Nickviola | 1019 comments My first Valiant Deluxe books arrived: XO Vol 1 and Dr. Mirage and they are pretty sexy. They have this great knit matted black finish and really clean embossing (not like the old Marvel omnis) and the paper is pretty thick with bright artwork. Very impressed, excited to start collecting these regularly.

I am a huge fan of the Dark Horse hardcovers. I am really hoping for a couple of Baltimore library editions if the series truly ends after the next arc, as they're saying it will.

message 2000: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Sure thing. If I had known what I know now, I would've gotten the Absolute. But any version is better than no version. But yeah, indie publishers are blowing my mind with their deluxe editions. That sewn binding!
