Yes the packaging is superior. Twice sealed and boxed. I work in a bookstore and our deliveries are almost always damaged by comparison.

just ordered Rachel Rising Omnibus HC from Ist. My first Ist order. I'm so happy that i can find a Rachel Omni with a decent price. :D

Fluffyroundabout wrote: "Hey Lee. I expected it to take a while but 4 and a half weeks is surely too long!? "I'm not sure. It really does take a long time, much longer than other US based suppliers I have ordered from in the past. Maybe send them an email just in case, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were en route somewhere and will be with you soon.
Oza, good work. Mine takes a good place on my shelves. I won't be reading it for a while though so let me know what it's like if you get there before me.
Oh nice, I just started reading the second and then thought I may as well re read the first book to refresh so I can blitz the series. Mine is on order amazon but no updates for a few weeks

Finished reading The Fade Out the other night. Good art and the story kept you wondering who did what and why. It's not a happy story (murder stories usually aren't). I could see this getting made into a movie with some tweaks. Def not for kids.
Honestly, I know Brubaker isn't excited about doing more super hero stories but I haven't liked any of his creator owned non-super hero work more than his super hero work.

I was going to start reading it last night, but I'm forcing myself to plow through the rest of the Squadron Supreme Omnibus first.
Yeah, the stuff I've read has been good but not great. I'm also starting to feel that they are sort of the same crime story, wrapped in a different setting.
Criminal is still my favorite though of his indy stuff.

For anyone interested, I put together a poll to see how it works. If anyone has ideas for a fun poll, let me know.

I think brubakers hero stuff is average. I much prefer his indie stuff. Criminal, velvet and fade out are immensely encapsulating.
I haven't read Velvet yet but I am really looking forward to it. I also have not read Criminal but I have read The Fade Out, Scene of the Crime, Sleeper, Fatale, and Incognito (super-heroish). Of all this non big two stuff, I like Incognito the best.
As a big Cap fan, I love Brubaker's Cap. The quality does dip in parts of his run but overall I'm very happy with it. He did finish strong with the Winter Soldier run. I also really enjoyed his Iron Fist, Daredevil, and The Books of Doom mini-series. His X-Men stuff was decent but pretty brief. Both his DD and his Cap have significantly influenced what we have seen with these characters on the big/small screen.

To me, Brubaker can do no wrong. I loved pretty much everything I have read. Though, I myself is partial towards his non super hero stuff. Criminal is one of the best noir story collention I have ever read. I loved Sleeper, Incognito and Scene of crime. Waiting for Fade Out and Velvet hardcovers (I will order fade out next month first thing).About the superhero stuff that he has done, I have only read Captain America and Daredevil. Captain America was great till the Captain America Lives omnibus. After that it became too convoluted for me and I jumped ship. The 1st Omnibus volume of Daredevil was superb and the second one was good but not great. Iron Fist is on my to read list for some time now.
I love how Brubaker brings the noir setting and tension even in a superhero book. Just love it.
I'm in line with Relstuart when it comes to Cap and Brubaker's run. DD and Iron Fist were ok to me, and Books of Doom was better.
Haven't read Fatale or Incognito and I'm looking forward to Fade Out (on my nightstand) and Velvet.
He is really a master at making "real" characters and pulling you into their lives. Even with Scene of the Crime you can see his talent.

Had never heard of Fantastic Four: Books of Doom before today an now I have to read it. Here goes my plan to save for future!! :)
I forgot his Catwoman run. Thanks for bringing it up. I liked it, I have read it some time ago have to read it again.Ronny, you owe it to yourself to try Brubaker. For a start, pick anything mentioned in the previous comments. I think we even have a recommendation link for Brubaker. Don't we BZ??

I forgot about his Catwoman run as well. There's also Gotham Central.
For superheroes there's also The Marvels Project.
We don't have a thread just for Brubaker but we do have the Crime and Mystery thread, where half of the top books are by him.

Maybe I need to go ahead and create a thread just for him...

Looking forward to getting into the GL Omnibus you've all spoken so highly about."
How is the print and binding on the Green Lantern omnibus? I really want that but have heard mixed reviews. I have the smalelr hardcovers but those stories and art are so great.

Aaron wrote: "How is the print and binding on the Green Lantern omnibus? I really want that but have heard mixed reviews. I don't see any separation though. Due to the size and weight I've been treating it very gingerly.
Yeah, I usually notice some cracking with most Omnibus size books. Some just sound worse than others.
Reece wrote: "Yeah, I usually notice some cracking with most Omnibus size books. Some just sound worse than others."Do you guys follow this process before reading a new omnibus? I would recommend it!
https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...
Yup and some still crack a bit. I attribute it to the likely change from animal based glues to some synthetic compound that isn't as flexible
I think I saw that years ago but I certainly don't do that. I kind of feel it should be designed and built in a way to handle normal usage for the uninitiated. But that could just be naivety on my part not knowing much about making books.
I've seen that before as well, and I've loosely followed the advice. Maybe I need to do a more thorough job of it. I haven't been completely sold on the process.
I work in the book industry and have never heard about this. I feel like the binding is either sound or it isn't. Regular use shouldn't break sound binding. Loosen, sure.
Just received Superman: American alien and x-men: rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire. The x-men book have the tightest binding i have experienced so far.. damn it's tight.
No Clive Barker so far for me. I've heard good things about the Superman American Alien. I put it in my wish list on IST.
I just got the final volume of Locke and Key and the Empire of the Dead OHC. I was initially not at all interested in picking up the Empire of the Dead book but I saw Maleev did much of the art and decided to give it a look. It was pretty decent.

Yeah that was the plan, but it's not possible on the app.. if it's possible i dont now how to.. so it will be when i get on my computer at some point during the next couple of days. :)
You cant really do anything but write and read comments and review.. and the thing keeps crashing as well. Or make double posts.
Hey, trusted GoodReaders, how is everybody doing? Today I come to you for your help in a matter I have zero knowledge, but care deeply, about.
My niece is going to be 6 next week, she is just learning to read and not so keen (I think impatient describes her better) on stories. So, I want to do what any story junkie uncle would do and gift her a (or a couple) wordless children's comic book for present. This is my secret ninja move to get her addicted to the magical world of stories in general and comics in particular.
After doing a lot of research I have zeroed in on The Only Child. Do you have any suggestions regarding this? I understand that this is a peculiar request, but I am depending on you. No pressure ;)
