I built my DCBS order as well. I had way too much so I cut books I felt I shouldn't have an issue buying on release (Hickman omnibus regular cover and Batman No Man's Land). Books like the DM cover of New Mutants omnibus volume 2 might sell out quickly so I kept that one in the order.
I'm also in the fortunate position where I have many of the omnibus books being reprinted.
Dave Dorman has a hardcover listed now in the DCBS preorders that sounds potentially interesting: http://www.magnetic-press.com/wasted-...

I put my order in on DCBS as well. Despite not needing as many of the reprints as others do, my order was still pretty hefty. Coupled with my shelf space being full, I'm considering at least taking off the X-Men Mutant Massacre Omnibus. It was going to be my stopping point for collecting the older X-Men stories, but maybe I'll just stick to the numbered editions. Seems Marvel is going to at least keep stuff reprinted more often now that they've found some cheap printers.

I did notice a price incongruity. I collect Archie Comics Digests, and the typical cover price is $7.99, with the discounted price $5.19. This month, DCBS or Previews or whoever had the cover price of two of the digests at $14.99, $9.74 with the discount. I didn't think the cover price would almost double, so checked Archie's own solicitations and they list the digests at the usual $7.99. So not sure what is going on with the higher price this month.
Archie subscriptions are really dirt cheap, so I may go that route with them. They offer 10 issues for $29.99 which is a savings even from DCBS. I have one subscription for a special series digest and it's really well-packaged for the USPS, I think.
Anyway, has anyone ever noticed a price discrepancy like that before?

Wow!
I don't think you will be disappointed with the FF Hickman. At some point I'd like to get that No Man's Land Omni(s).

Yeah. These DC Omnis go OOP so quick I figured what the hell. Ended up paying way over retail for the Snyder Omni : /

My IST order yesterday was Hellboy and the BPRD 1952-1954 HC, Canto II TPB, Saga of Tanya the Evil TPB vol 14, Spy x Family TPB vol 5, and Crossover TPB vol 1 by Donny Cates. Nothing major. =)
Thinking I need a new collecting challenge. I have everything I can think of so at this point it’s just maintaining new releases.
Thinking I might start going for a complete MMW. Anyone else doing this?

Boom re releases season 8-10 in some oversized way. A season omnibus, or just the same library’s but with boom logo lol . Sigh … I’m about to start picking up the ton legacy editions :/ . Anyways. What I was wanting to say. Is I’ve started to take my collector energy and apply it to the Robinhood app and the stock market . I find that it feels they collecting energy … and I actually can make
Money when I stop spending more on new stocks than I’m earning lol. But yeah. I throw that out as a suggestion.

I like the MMW format well enough and I actually prefer the regular silver covers. The only character I will always buy all the editions for is Cap though I have the first dozen FF4. I stopped getting those when they changed the spine design and future volumes weren't going to match. I think I have seven or eight Avengers and a few random volumes (Capt Marvel).
Any read throughs you always planned to do once you got all the books for a series/character/team that you are going to begin working on? I haven't read Ultimate Spider-Man because I'm missing two OHCs and I still haven't read a couple X-men omnibus volumes because I do want to do an X-men read though eventually.
Any custom binding projects you are looking at doing? One thing that attracts me to continuing custom binding is Marvel is not going to mix issues for characters or teams in chronological order if they eventually do an omnibus for many things. I have a bunch of X-men issues between Secret Empire and Hickman (X-Force, X-Rogue and Gambit ongoing, X-men mini-series, etc) and Marvel is never going to bind these different X-men series for a chronological read. But if you want them on your shelf and you want to read the full spectrum of what is going on in the X-men world, custom binding is about the only way to go.
I still follow some statue groups but the large sizes and prices have kept me from adding much to my collection. If Bowen were to make a comeback I'd probably be interested again.
I like CGC comics but I don't want to end up with a bunch of them just sitting in boxes. I've kept my interest fairly limited to covers and signed things I really like.
Something I haven't talked about much here that I've dabbled in over the last year or so are some of the special edition books from companies like Grim Oak Press, Subterranean Press, Easton Press, and the Folio Society of London. To the extent you read outside of comics and have some favorite authors, they have some beautiful editions out there. Often they have art commissioned just for their special edition and the books are often signed by the author and/or the artist. Getting in when things first go on sale before they sell out is definitely the way to go as their books sell out and don't come back in stock.

That would be crazy. Some of that stuff is extremely hard to find with basically no chance for a reprint (assuming you want the hardcovers.) Coupled with the original cover and the silver cover variants, plus the annoying change in logo on the silver covers, results in a lot of mixing and matching.
I have a few, but tried to limit them to secondary characters that I never read growing up. Stuff I was mostly just curious about and wanted to read. I'm still trying to find copies of the Inhumans and the original Black Panther and have been looking for at least a decade.
I wouldn't mind selling some if you end up going that route.

I'm nearing the end as well (although you wouldn't think so based on that last DCBS pre-order.) I always seem to be collecting something and if I stick with comics, it'll probably be slabbed comics. However, I'm becoming aware of the amount of "stuff" I have and starting to think I need to just stop.
I do like the idea of investing (which I already do some), but there are a lot of highs and low, and you don't quite get the immediate (and long-term after reread) satisfaction from comics.
My two other hobbies are calling to me to devote more time and it's been a juggle trying to balance them all with normal life.
Rel, the only special edition books I've purchased recently are from Beehive books, which are really nice quality.

That’s exactly how I feel about slabbed comics Rel. The ones I collect I go for the artwork aesthetic or signatures of certain key creators I admire. Show my collection off to people and usually get: “Oh but you should have Incredible Hulk #180 or Amazing Spider-Man #300 or X-Men #94…”
Are they keys? Certainly. But I honestly don’t find the covers all that attractive, and if I had them they’d more than likely sit in storage, which isn’t what I’m after.
I like what Blind said about always having to collect something. I feel I’m in that boat too, and trying to ease into dialing back so I don’t start chasing after some new hobby I don’t need.

While I’ve not read the content, based on my understanding the Thor: Heroes Return vol 1 happens more or less simultaneously with Heroes Reborn: The Return, if not slightly afterwards. Personally, I’d read HR and HR: The Return before the Thor volumes.
I have HR: The Return and and eager to read it sometime to see how they all come back after Avengers/X-Men: Onslaught, though I didn’t hear great things about Heroes Reborn, so am happy to skip the pocket universe. I’ve also never been a fan of Liefeld’s art, even though he didn’t draw all of those issues.

Have you opened it yet Ryan? I’m curious where it was printed.

Thanks Ryan, my order should be here Tuesday. I ordered the same!

No worries, and makes sense. Just curious if it came from Turkey like the second round of the Wolverine vol. 1 omnis, since they came out around the same time.

I'm holding off on the X-Men Mutant Massacre stuff and the Aaron Wolverine and X-Men, and the X-Men/Avengers Onslaught omnis. Tough call, but this month was just killer. I'll probably try and grab them when they hit IST. Hopefully those will be leaner months for preorders.
I'm grabbing the two Dr Strange omnis, X-Men Vol 1 and Mighty Thor Vol 1 omnis, a handful of trades from Marvel, DC's offering this month of graphic novels for kids, and the X-Men Hellfire Gala Red Carpet Collection HC which I hope is not duplicated in the Reign of X series.
I also picked up the new printing of Eternaut from Fantagraphics which I have been dying to get my hands on for a while, and the newest reprint of TwoMorrow's comics history series, this one 1960-1964. I can't recommend this comics history series enough. I really enjoy TwoMorrow's BackIssue and Kirby Collector magazines and although sometimes the content is a bit amateurish, they're a great resource for comics history. Worth checking out over at twomorrows.com. They also publish stuff related to toys and have a number of books devoted to various artists.
I'm probably going to start selling off a few odds and ends from my collection to help pay for this month. Lol. I really need to set up an Ebay store.

Recently read items:
Tank Girl: The Legend of Tank Girl. Written by the original author but these stories were written years after the original material. The oversize hardcover book published by Titan comics is well put together. The books is slapstick comedy adventure so not something to take seriously. With that in mind, I understand why this is an off the beaten path comic series. The book is out of print but I wouldn't pay over cover for it if it's something you aren't familiar with already.
Crossover by Donny Cates TPB vol 1. Very interesting concept where Denver has become ground zero for fictional super villains, monsters, and heroes appearing in the real world and the story revolves around an ordinary person trying to make sense of what is going on (are they ordinary?). It still feels too early to know whether/where Cates is going to land the story so I'm still withholding judgment on whether this is good or not.
Dceased: Dead Planet, we see a return to earth for some characters who escaped. I don't want to give any spoilers on the story but Taylor continues to entertain me with interesting twists to this tale.
Criminal by Brubaker HC volume 1. Short related stories that follow different related characters in different times. I've had this on my radar for years and heard it praised as one of the best things Brubaker has done. I don't expect a huge difference in quality in the future volumes. The stories are grim gritty crime based stories where there are few if any good people involved. I struggled in a couple of them finding someone to root for. I don't think this series of stories is going to be in my top Brubaker favorites but I respect the story telling ability on display.
Sirens of the Norse Sea TPB from Humanoids. I do like the fact we have a company bringing stories successful in European comics to an American audience. There are a couple stories in this TPB and they were interesting. If Vikings versus Mermaids (sirens) sounds like a concept that you find really interesting this is worth picking up. I don't think it rises to a everyone should read this level, but it was fun.

Funny, I did the same thing and reevaluated what I had, although the only change I made was to ADD Mutant Massacre. I decided that'll be my stopping point for collecting "classic" X-Men. Definitely some nostalgia tied in there too. Although I may change my mind if they somehow continue with the numbered editions.
I considered cancelling the Hickman X-Men Omnibus and I'm still torn. As I read more from the new X-Universe, there are many ideas that I like, but it feels a little disjointed and haphazard. I've seen some online chatter about just where we are in Hickman's overall plan. First act? Midway? Also still concerned about how readable is the main X-Men series by itself?

I wonder if all the hype raised the bar to high for you on Criminal. I think it's really well done but I get what you mean about who to root for. I recently watched the first episode of a show and I walked away thinking the same thing: Everyone is either not a nice person, or they make really bad decisions, so it's hard to like anyone. As you read more of Criminal the linking of stories helps a little as well as the focus on a particular group of characters.
That Cates book sounds intriguing.
Looking forward to reading those DCeased books.

Tank Girl! I just picked up Tank Girl Color Classics Vols.1-3, which collect, I believe, all of Hewlett & Martin's run. They're standard HC but sewn binding and decent semi-gloss paper. Funny stuff!

Theory confirmed! Haha thanks Ryan. Not that it really matters much at all, but hopefully we don’t see any other books from that printer again anytime soon (because of the thinner pages, like the Wolverine vol. 1 reprint I have).

From what I've read elsewhere, I think the flat spines are gone, but unfortunately, the thinner pages are probably here to stay, at least on some books. Nothing definitive on that, and things can always change, but I wouldn't be surprised to still be able to see through pages on some books, possibly only on reprints.
