Jeff | 209 comments DCBS preorders for July are up. Interestingly, the 50% discount is unavailable. Instead, I'm seeing a 46%. Still solid, but not as great as the 50% lol.

Some good omnis on offer, including Xmen vol 2, Dr. Strange by Aaron, Conan vol 7, Batgirl from Burnside, and many more.

message 7453: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Weird that Marvel's books were not at the 50%, but DC's were.

DC has some omnibus volumes up for pre-order on DCBS with a 50% discount (Green Arrow omnibus 2 by Grell and Snyder's Batman omnibus volume 2). So at least there is that. =)

message 7455: by Mike (new)

Mike G | 10 comments I think the 46 percent discount for DCBS Marvel preorders is the new reality based on Marvel’s direct market distribution agreement with Penguin Random House that begins on October 1.

message 7456: by Darth Bane (last edited Jul 05, 2021 04:53PM) (new)

Darth Bane | 261 comments We knew this was coming. 50% was nice to have, but times are changing. 46% is still really good, so I am sticking with DCBS for the time being. I'll be interested to see how other preordering sites adjust though. Maybe this will make things more competitive. Or perhaps the margins will be even thinner. I guess we will find out.

I only ordered Batman by Snyder and Capullo vol 2 and Witchfinder vol 2, so a relatively light month for me, which is good since November will be killer.

message 7457: by J (new)

J | 531 comments What's coming in November?

And I still like preordering so don't have to rush around on Tuesday afternoons with IST.

I preordered Green Arrow Longbow Hunters Omnibus V2. Was hoping to read V1 first but no time for that.

Tempted by the Hellions HC but would like to read more than the first arc before I fill up my limited shelf space.

message 7464: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments Preorders for me this month are Batman by Snyder and Capullo Vol 2, Once and Future Dlx Slipcase edition, and the third Reckless book.

I buy floppies too and I’ve really started trimming that down lately with the amount I spend on hardcovers. It’s hard to quit completely but I’ve forced myself to start the process of keeping my list pretty small.

For anyone that hasn’t read Once and Future, the artwork and coloring are incredible, well worth checking out in my opinion.

Nice. I'm thinking about cutting some of my floppies as well. I started picking up most of the X-men books planning on custom binding them but they are actually doing a much better job soliciting them for OHC. That still doesn't put all the issues in proper reading order but reading them in clean cut OHCs is worth it IMHO. The other issue is they never print all the ongoing X-men stuff in the oversized format but they are doing more now than I can remember them doing.

Marvel has a couple Doctor Strange omnibus volumes available. I'm staying with me Aaron Dr. Strange OHCs and had to cut the older material one just because of how expensive my pull list for this month was getting on DCBS. Also has the Roy Thomas X-men vol 2 omnibus and Conan Original Marvel Year Omnibus vol 7, and Thunderbolts vol 2 up for order along with several OHC books.

Boom also has a Power Ranger DLX and another Firefly DLX hardcover for pre-order. Dark Horse has Berserk DLX vol 9 up.

I think it's July 28th. That said, this month's order will all get charged middle of next month no matter when you add to the order.

The Ether Library Edition is back in stock on IST for anyone who might have missed it on release as initial stock sold out quickly:

To be fair, the first volume has had 4-5 reprints since it came out, so there is little risk in not preordering this one. This will be popular, so I'd imagine it will get a similar treatment.

Anyone seen DC's Alan Moore's Absolute Swamp Thing, Vol. 3 on DCBS preorders, or did I miss it?

message 7478: by Ozan (new)

Ozan (dotanuki) | 222 comments My buying habbits are 1 or 2 Omnibuses and 10 to 15 mangas, per month. I'm thinking about reducing that for a while.

I see elsewhere that these were all cancelled too:
Star Wars: Rise of the Sith
Charles Soule Darth Vader
MMW Ghost Rider V3
MMW Tomb of Dracula V1

Speculation is that they were solicited under the deal with Diamond and will have to be resolicited.

I hope thats the case. I had a bunch of preorders cancelled that I was very much looking forward to.

message 7484: by J (new)

J | 531 comments You can add Kull the Conqueror The Original Marvel Years to this list of cancelled books, as well.

message 7485: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Also Savage Sword of Conan Omni #6, which is noted in my DCBS account but wasn't in the email.

message 7486: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Penguin should have to fulfill these as per of the new deal. Now we can all oh an average of $8 per preordered book.

message 7487: by Johnny (new)

Johnny | 573 comments So the thing is that yes, the books are affected because Diamond does not distribute them anymore and PRH will take over. However that the pre-orders for the end customer are cancelled is on the shops (DCBS/IST/ToW and whatever) since they can still re-order those same books from PRH, they are just making it easier for themselves by making the end customers re-order the books again and send THOSE orders to PRH instead of the original orders that they sent to Diamond in the first place.
Because of that it is not certain that your pre-order will be cancelled depending on where you pre-ordered from.

message 7488: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Any ideas when DCBS might add them back to the preorders?

message 7489: by Jeff (new)

message 7491: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments I’m a little confused right now. I had 3 Omnis and another book cancelled, and DCBS says they gave it back to me on site credit. When I go to place my order this month, it doesn’t give me the option to use that site credit to pay. Currently in an email exchange with their customer service.

message 7492: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
DCBS must have figured something out. They cancelled plenty and probably saw the numbers they were having to apply to other orders. As such, after cancelling a ton of my books, I started getting price change emails, saying they weren’t cancelling, but changing the price based on marvel’s new terms. So 2/3 of my orders were cancelled and now I’m just getting price alerts that the amounts are going up . . . Sadly emails don’t tell me what I paid originally.

As for refunds, they simply apply them to other orders overall, that has been the case for me in the past few months. Whoever handles the accounting part for their orders with refunds and applying them . . . Has their work cut out for them.

message 7493: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Ryan, I was wondering if the site credit would be subtracted from this month's pre-order when they charge my card next month. No idea.

Erik, I had only one price change, an omni that went up $4. Not sure why other books from the same order didn't increase in price.

message 7494: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Just wait. Unlike the couple of cancel notices I got, each price adjustment has been notified in its own email. I’ve gotten 5-6.

message 7495: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments I got some clarity this morning about the DCBS site credits. Basically, any order you have already placed, you can go to it and click to pay order now and it will let you apply the site credits that you received.

Since last months order was so big, I just went and had it apply the credits to that payment and I’m going to reorder my books that got cancelled with this months order.

J | 531 comments Are there any rules, or another discussion thread on selling books? I didn't want to post anything here without asking. Accidentally pre-ordered two copies of an omni, and I'd rather let one copy go at cost to someone in our group instead of hawking it on Ebay. But, wasn't sure of the protocol.

Thanks.

but you are basically on your own. The group doesn't mediate anything, but feel free to post there. Thanks for asking!
