What have you added to your collection recently?

Anyway, really enjoying the Civil War event. I was cool to see how the events leading up to Planet Hulk were ever so lightly touched upon, and they even referenced the Nick Fury Secret War story leading partially causing Civil War, which was nice. That story was included in the Battleworld slipcase Marvel released in 2015, and it’s always seemed bizarre to me to be included; no complaints now!
But I just read through an issue where Peter Parker grapples with whether or not to reveal his true identity to the world to help the superhero registration act, and I gotta say, it was quite an emotional moment. Loving this storyline so far!
With nothing new coming out and my library being closed, I'll start in on my backlog.
Getting ready to start MMW Captain Marvel V3, the Starlin stuff. I've also got MMW She-Hulk and the latest Two-In-One.
Also have Avengers V4 omnibus as well as the entire Sixth Gun Series which is the main one to get through and the Lucifer omni. I think that's all the stuff I've never read. I have other books that are unopened but I've read the story previously or I'm waiting for the final volume.

Still thinking of what I’m gonna order, open to suggestions as a non-DC reader but absorber of almost anything else.
In short, I don’t believe this necessitates a new thread, but if there are other forums you would all like to participate in, I can create a new thread that shows other communities we all are involved in.
I post here only because it is the most active.
I assume with this hobby most of us share similar interest other than collected comic editions. In that vain, I’ve joined letterbox for movies. I’d be interested in some of the opinions from our tight group there too.
Hope to see you there; maybe we can create a goodreads groups there.

I've read the first four paperbacks of The Promised Neverland, the fourth best selling manga last year with just under 7.5 million sales. Interesting story about kids in an orphanage realizing their orphanage isn't what they thought it was as they try to come up with a plan to escape.

So now I have the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk omnis, which had been sitting on my want list for farrr too long, and also started a Daredevil collection with the Miller, Bendis and Brubaker books all here now (and the Waid volumes on the way).
Finally, got my copy of the Marvels 25th anniversary Ed., and I figured what the heck with the Marvel Comics #1000 OHC. Heard #1000 was a fun read, and I hung some special edition covers of it & 1001 back when they came out.

Im more in Letterboxd than i am here and i read a decent bit. Movies are my jam though.
I was not tracking the X-Men Fatal Attractions OHC had shot up to be that expensive. I panic bought the JMS Spiderman omnibus volume one off of Ebay from a comic book store. At least paying more than IST went to someone's local comic book store. That said, the price has continued to rise on it so I'm taking some comfort in the fact I paid less than cover. :)

His art was very impressive. Sad to see him go. Hopefully we don't see other greats taken from us because of the pandemic.
Off topic: Hoping it doesn't take too long for John Gwynne's final book in his current trilogy (titled, A Time of Courage) to come in from England where it was released today. I read his first series and have the first two books waiting for the final book to come in before starting my read through. Gwynne is one of my favorite modern fantasy writers from the last few years. :)

Bruno are those the paperback versions? I have both of those as well. Hoping to get started on C and H soon.

Far Side and Calvin are both TPBs boxsets... got both for around 40€ in Amazon ES. Great deals!

1) do people shelve their Absolutes slipcase or book side facing out?
2) am I right in that Absolute Transmetropolitan is very expensive and just on the secondary market?

Currently i don't own any Absolutes, but when I did i kept the book side facing out... easier to get the book out.
I prefer the slipcase out but not all of them have the title printed there. On those I turn the book spine out.

Preacher and sandman are the only ones I have spine out, all other are just the back of the slip case
Most of my Absolutes are spine out. :)
I feel like IST is probably getting a lot of business right now with so many people purchasing thinking they need reading material during social distancing/stay at home/quarantine. I saw a comment from someone on FB saying they dropped $800 in four days with them. Probably why my order from last Wednesday isn't scanned and shipped yet.
It does look like IST will continue to list a handful of books at 50% off each week.

Rel, I hope you’re right about IST doing well, I haven’t ordered in weeks as my back pull list was completed more than a year ago. I feel like I’m going through withdrawal not ordering new books from IST.
I did an amazon order for school supplies (don’t get me started with running a practice and being forced to home school kids) and Amazon suggested some Image DLX HC I’ve never heard of for $35 so just threw the dice, I know it’s because I haven’t ordered from IST in more than a month.
Absolute addictive behavior as there is plenty on the shelf that still needs to be read.

I'm really trying not to buy regular trades of ongoing series and just concentrate on reprints of older material and various HCs, omniscient, etc. Using the DC and Marvel apps I can read a lot of current comics eventually so not sure why I need to keep buying pb trades I'll read only once..
I seem to remember someone here listing out the main appearances of Thanos but I can’t find it. Anyone know where that is or can whoever did it repost it?
I just read his first appearance in Captain Marvel then his appearance in Avengers annual and MTIO annual which came right afterwards. I like the escalation and emotional journey that justifies his actions.

Anyone else have this? Totally superfluous if you have the omnis?
Nick, I have MARVELS in the same format. It’s AWESOME. $70 is a steal for the format IMO. Enjoy.

So many questions...
Doesn’t it seem like the X-Men could have been called something better than “Adamantium”.. like even the “mutation” edition?
Are there any other books in this format?
Anyone else have any commentary on the others?
I think they wanted to stick with “metals”. I believe the Forest was Marvels with platinum. Adamantium makes more sense to me with X-men than Deadpool since Wolverine is so identifiable with them.
Those are the only ones I’m aware of. Except for Marvels, all of them are a mish mash of various appearances or selective issues which doesn’t really appeal to me because then you are just paying for the size. But for that low price point it’s not a bad buy.
My two cents...

So are people planning to buy from CGN today? Are we expecting Wolverine Omni 1 and Astonishing X-Men reprints?
I’m going to try, but depends how much more it’ll be. Not sure there’s going to be anything available though.

Nickviola wrote: "Same, I’m not in a rush so probably will wait a few weeks to keep supporting IST if they start sending out new books."
I just looked at CGN's site. They have the Hellblazer by Ennis Omnibus for special order and only about 35% off. Not sure I'll jump on that now. Oh well.

Not exactly a hardcover, much less a physical book but Brubaker has a new digital comic out:

I like the concept: a teenage detective grows up and has to deal with adult problems. I was a fan of Encyclopedia Brown as a kid, so this piques my interest.

King-Sized Kirby arrived and I have to show some pictures and write about this beautiful monstrosity (which is not for everyone but is now one of my favorite books). It is a gigantic (see picture 1) book that is like 1.5 times an absolute that covers Kirbys whole career (minus DC obviously) including early romance and war books, his seminal issues of major Marvel characters that he created, then his return with Eternals and Devil Dinosaur, etc. So this is NOT sequential entire runs (which i prefer), but its just like the ultimate showcase of Kirby at Marvel.

The pages are so thick that its like 30% thicker than omnibuses with the same page count (photo 2).

The book comes in a slipcase, plus the cardboard on the outside that protects the slipcase even has the artwork on the front and back which (i admit being lame for loving this) is so cool and Im keeping the box. (photo 3)

The binding is amazing, holding this ~20 pound book together (photo 4)

Finally, the art is just gorgeous. Its crystal clear and on the thickest stock paper in any book I own (I think?) (photo 5) and you really get to feel how dynamic Kirbys art is, which I know is not universally beloved, but its just incredible to me.

Pages do have these borders around them that signify the issue number you're reading, which i really like, because the book is too big to flip back and forth to the table of contents all the time, so you know exactly what you're look at, though I have seen people who found that distracting.
Anyway, kind of unusual book so sorry for the long post but hoped at least 1 or 2 of you may care...

Really cool and beautiful pics, thanks for sharing Nick! I wouldn't mind owning something like that, never can shy away from Kirby's work, although like you I prefer more sequential runs. How are you storing it?
Think it's about the same size and heft of the TASCHEN 75 Years of Marvel Comics. I love it, but damn it's unwieldy, and I never want to store it upright so the book and it's slipcase takes up a lot more room than I'd like. Doubt I'd ever buy something this big again.
So I took a chance and made an order with TalesofWonder.com:
Omega Men Deluxe
Hellblazer by Ennis Omnibus
Hellblazer still had 50% off, and it was free shipping on orders over $99 (and you had to group all items in one shipment.) If it gets delayed, I'm ok with that. Long as I get the price discount and the book arrives eventually.
We shall see...

Thanks for the review and pictures Nick. :)
I am planning on picking up the Steranko volume later this year. :)

You'll have to let me know what you think of Hellblazer. That hasn't been on my radar as something I want to read but I don't know much about it/haven't heard feedback on it.
I read Omega Men and thought it was ok. Which seems less enthusiastic than most folks as it is very well received. I read a lot of non-fiction military biography and memoir and perhaps the angle the author picked is more familiar to me from real life stories and didn't land with as much force for me as a result.
I added a new bookshelf over the weekend to expand my WWII/later history section of my library. Just a Better Homes and Gardens cube shelf from Walmart. Didn't seem to be the same quality as the Ikea cube shelf I have but once it was put together it seemed sturdy enough.
I finished reading Ubel Blatt. It was described as having some similarity to Berserk for those that like dark adult fantasy and want more in the genre to check out. I don't think that's a good description as it doesn't measure up in either story or art. It was fine as a one-time read but I feel like there are probably better things out there.
Read the second hardback volume and Drifting Classroom and felt like the series took a step back in the second volume. Too many crisis too quickly prioritizing action over characters, the things you thought you had figured out didn't make sense like you thought they did, so I'm more confused now than before as to what might be going on. I'll read the third and final volume to figure out the ending.
Enjoying The Promised Neverland and read volumes 9 thru 11 yesterday. I'm finding reading two volumes at a time helps as the books often end on some kind of cliffhanger though 9 thru 11 need to be read together because you won't want to pause in-between these books.

I’m looking forward to Hellblazer because I’ve read a lot of stories where he was a secondary character and there always seemed to be lots of backstory that I didn’t know. There also wasn’t a lot of character development just that he was a jerk but still tried to do good things. Hopefully this omnibus will full in some of that info.
Looking at my DCU collection, aside from absolutes my vertigo stuff outnumbers the regular DC stuff.
I feel like the shelves you bought are thicker and sturdier than ikeas. Did you get the metal support for it? I like how it raised it up a few inches.
