What have you added to your collection recently?

I agree with how great those shelves are looking. The uniformity is almost mesmerizing...
How do you like those Saga hardcovers vol. 1-3? I’m thinking about taking that big first step towards collecting something NOT Marvel, and have been eyeing them based on all the acclaim I hear. But I saw a bad review on Amazon about a binding issue—hoping it was just a fluke.
There’s also a guy on Reddit trying to sell his custom bound Saga issues 1-54, which look absolutely beautiful and I’d love to own them, but beyond price the completionist side of me keeps asking what I’ll do for the second half of the series once Vaughan and Staples get back to work. I don’t think I want to take on a custom binding project like that, especially if I want all books to be relatively matching...

As for Saga, my 3 are well bound. I’d recommend getting the Image HC over the self bound.
For other non-marvel stuff, I’d really highly recommend Fear Agent which are beautiful well made books and old Remember writing which is great. Also, if you like westerns/fantasy/apocalypse Sixth Gun and East of West are great. And Black Science is like Reed Richards-like character genius only more counter culture who destroys his family and the multiverse and tries to put both together, the art is gorgeous and pace is blinding.
If you like religious/mythology Lucifer Omnibus was really good.
Well Relstuart has done quite a bit of binding and I’m sure would be happy to give you advice. But I believe when they return its only one more HC or did I imagine that?
I have done a fair bit of binding but since oversize hardcovers are available for the Saga series that is probably the way to go. No binding issues are my copies either.
I decided to try out the Pestilence HC from Aftershock. Their oversize hardcovers look nice. We'll see how the content is. I also ordered Die TPB vol 2. Loved the art and liked the story in volume one.
Read Rumble vol 6. I think the series has gone on a bit too far and the story has lost it's way a bit.
Tried Millar's latest new story, Sharkey the Bounty Hunter. It wasn't bad but it didn't really do anything for me.
Finally got a copy of Baltimore Omnibus vol 1 (standard size HC). It follows a WWI vet trying to chase down a vampire in the aftermath of WWI. In real life, this was a time of upheaval, violence, and unrest in Europe. The war officially ended but there were civil wars and plagues that killed enormous numbers of people even though WWI was officially over. I enjoyed the story and will buy the second volume when it is available. The story is like a really well executed B movie.
I bought the new Animal Man omnibus from Lemire but haven't gotten into it yet....

Oh geez. Thanks for the recommendations, but I feel like I’m entering dangerous territory here! About a year ago I finally decided that in addition to my X-Men I’d also start collecting Spider-Man books, plus hitting Marvel Cosmic and trying to chase Hickman’s build up to the 2015 Secret Wars...really interested in that War of the Realms omni coming out this fall but I feel like that opens the door to a bunch of Jason Aaron’s Thor work...it never ends!
Blind and Rel, thanks for the information. Definitely think I’ll stick with the OHC’s of Saga. Ultimately, just know I’d be happier with a matching set, but some day I hope to buy a custom bind of a run I really like, if anything just to own one and diversify my collection.

My LCS has some custom bound series on sale, most notable Books of Magic (75 issues + annuals, three custom bound books) and Supreme / Moore in two books. The prices are hefty, around $150 for the Books of Magic and $90 for the Supreme. What would you do?
Both series have a low probability of ever getting released in one of the formats we love so much.

It's been awhile since I read it, but I have a hardcover copy of the Supreme by Moore books from Checker Book Publishing. There's a weird story about the rights to print it so they are kind of rare and they aren't oversized.
Regarding the story, it isn't Moore's best but enjoyable. It's a variant take on the early Superman stories and mythos, so it's a fun and nostalgic look book at that era as opposed to the heavy, multi-layered approach of Watchmen for example. The art is Image 90's, so take that however you like. $90 feels high to me, but I haven't seen it and I feel most of that is the cost of the binding. However, looking on ebay, there are some TPBs out there but those and the comics themselves will run you almost the same price so maybe it is a good deal. Didn't realize how hard to find those stories were.

When you look at the cost of binding, which has to include shipping the material to the binder, and shipping the finished bind back to you, conservative estimate for a simple bind is about $40 for a book. Additionally, the process can easily take a month or three. With those costs in mind, if you really want the material and the binds are in decent shape, those prices aren't much over the binding cost.

Do you all think we might see some delays for the books coming this fall (or sooner releases?) if things don’t start to get better? Because of China’s lack of transparency, I don’t know if we really have a true sense of infection/death rates, but I’ve not heard much promising info.

I say yes, expect delays and I get this from two sources: 1) I follow a company that makes comic statues and the owner is very open with the customers/fans. He's stated that the factories he deals with already delayed opening after Chinese New Year. Even if it opens up again, there is a backlog of things that need to leave China on the shipping containers and some things will take priority over others. 2) My company which makes telecom devices, had already moved our manufacturing out of China due to the tariff situation, but our factories are still in Asia. We've already been having problem getting parts and our company has restricted travel to China as well as Singapore because the virus is spreading.
I believe you are correct, that we don't have a true idea of how bad things are, and I wouldn't be surprised if things wouldn't be worse if it wasn't a communist country (the thinking being that they have so much control of the people.) Either way, it's a serious situation. I hope the world can keep things in perspective and use caution.
My two cents, for whatever that's worth.

Definitely a serious situation, and I agree with you about the need to keep things in perspective. Hoping for the best outcome, the books can always wait.

That’s annoying, but sounds like you’re not too broken up about it. But I know the feeling! I bought a sealed copy of Lee/Kirby’s The X-Men Vol 2 omnibus and when I opened it, I found one of the back supplemental pages torn about a third of the way down. No idea how it happened other than sometime during production. That was a first, and nothing you can really do since it’s unsealed. Oh well!
Anybody else put reminders on their calendar, when there are books to order that week? Or am I the only one who can't remember anything anymore?

Same here, then I forgot to cancel one and had to return it; that was the last time for that, cancelled the future omnis from Amazon.
Wish I would have known about IST and their 50% earlier. I've got about 200 Marvel Omnis now but only about 80 of them from IST with their savings. D'oh!
Heh, while I'm in a pity party I'm getting killed on the whale re-prints this year, I took care of some big ones earlier this year via eBay and now they're coming out. I've still got X-Men 1, and Thor 1 laugh.
These hurt though! Ah well, such is collecting!
Amazing Fantasy
Daredevil Bendis 1
Daredevil Bendis 2
Eternals
Silver Surfer
Ultimates
Uncanny X-Force
Wolverine
I did some quick reading order YouTube videos if anyone is interested. :)

Kidding.
Just finished Omni 1 of Strangers in Paradise. God damn it Terry Moore, wow. There is about an 80% chance my toddler is going to destroy it because he thinks the pictures look like a coloring book, but until then I will treasure this book.

I think I'm getting more reprints this year than originals (at least from Marvel.) I'll be knocking off 3-4 on my whale list and only have I think one left after that.

I’ve definitely overpaid on a couple of books that are getting reprints this year, but decided a few years ago that it all comes down to the fact that I’m happiest with HCs instead of TPBs or other lesser options. Could I have waited a little longer? Sure, but it’s a gamble: wait for a possible reprint, or watch prices slowly creep up/options dwindle.
No regrets; if anything, happy that fans who couldn’t afford OOP prices or missed out in the past get another chance to grab great collections.
I'd like to look at a list of all omnibus and their release dates to see if there is a certain number of years that drives a reprint? For example, the Silver Surfer was recently reprinted with nothing really driving it (no movie, but possibly the new comic series by Cates).
Alternatively, if there is never anything driving a reprint, will some books never be reprinted? For example, if there was no Eternals movie coming out, I would have thought the Kirby Eternals Omnibus would never be reprinted.
Possible reasons for reprints (me just guessing):
1 - Keeping early story available for new readers (I'm thinking of X-Men V1, Avengers V1, FF V1, etc.)
2 - Associated TV/movie released (free marketing)
3 - Reader demand/popularity (Brubaker Cap was reprinted many times)
4 - X number of years since it was originally printed.
I'm also going to make a prediction: When the movie Thor: Love and Thunder comes out, we'll finally see the Mighty Thor V1 reprint as well as the Aaron Thor Omnibus.
I'm curious if the Shang-Chi Omnibus will be reprinted for its movie.

I think I recall the Shang Chi omnibus volumes had a pretty low print run (volume 3 was a run of 3k. Daredevil volume 1 by Mark Waid was 9k. War of Kings Prelude Omnibus was 12k). All four of the omnibus volumes are still available from IST so the initial print runs have yet to sell out. I doubt we'll see a reprint in the near future.
It would be neat to have better data on sales by Marvel but they usually don't release that information.
I know I bought the original Wolverine vol 1 by Claremont omnibus in 2009. To date still no number 2 and Marvel is reprinting the volume 1 omnibus ten years later. I hope that is a prelude to finally getting a second volume.
Reprints are so hit a miss I don't think we can count on them as confidently as some folks predict them. It is nice to see more of them coming out this year than usual though. :)

Oh interesting! I hadn’t heard that. Thought it was weird they came out with them. Figured it was a pet project or favorite book of someone high up.
Ordered the second Man O War by Kindt DLX, the Black Bolt DLX that came out a month or so ago, and the Berserker Unbound HC today.
Coming out next week in comic shops and on IST:

In case you were curious about Flash of Two Worlds (like me), there is a Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_o...
I didn't read the actual plot summary since I'm likely to buy the book but did read about the significance of the story. :)
I'd welcome any comments about how the story holds up. I do like Carmine Infantino's art so that is a plus.

I ordered Berserk HC vol 4 and Drifting Classroom HC vol 1 yesterday. I see Berserk vol 4 is listed as the fifth best selling book on InStockTrades over the last 24 hours. Curious if it will sell out by the end of the week as the previous volumes seem to have sold out pretty quickly necessitating a wait for a reprint or more volumes shipping to IST.
Rel, interested you read your thoughts on drifting classroom. I posted a review on good reads and gave it some favor based on original publishing dates. I did order volume 2 this week and believe the next HC volume is the last.
Top 100 selling graphic novels for January.

The best seller for December was House of X/Powers of X Hickman OHC. That book clocked in at number 5 for January. Looks like 15k plus sold with two months of release.

For sure. I'll be glad to comment on it.
I did read Skyward TPB vol 1. It's a sci-fi book that introduces us to a world after a shift takes place where gravity is much reduced. As a result, if you are outside and subject to enough upward momentum, you'll leave earth's atmosphere and perish. It's a fun premise and the story is interesting as well as we get a hint that one of the characters knows what happened to shift gravity and thinks they can switch it back. I do want to read more.

I do think there should be some type of visual indicator for different prints.

Question for everyone:
Do you care what printing your OHC/Omnibus is?
In the days of collecting single issue comics, first printing was a big deal, with subsequent prints garnering less money when selling.
Does anyone here hunt down a first printing (and possibly pay more) for a hardcover, assuming that a reprint is available?
Personally, I don't care on an Omnibus, I'd much prefer just having/owning a copy.

Not happy with the white knight DLX or the umbrella academy
Bought the first HC offerings only to have a extra DLX version offered within months. Not happy or supporting that.

I think the Library Edition for Umbrella Academy is plenty sufficient as it is oversize.
I agree that the White Knight needed more time between different editions. I suspect it sold so well they rolled into the better format expecting it will also sell well (which is probably true). I suspect we'll see something similar for the sequel.

It sounds like sales are likely good enough for an Absolute. Not sure if they do one or more if they go in that direction. I like to think that will be a couple years down the road at least. I suppose an eventual omnibus may also be an option.
Honestly, I'm more disappointed in DC for Busiek's recent Batman: Creature of the Knight hardcover being standard size so it won't match the Superman DLX by Busiek book on the shelf than them putting out multiple formats on this story. I think Busiek commented @DC on Twitter about this. It's probably good creators are also calling them out and not just fans.
