Particularly when a design actually works and looks good. The "age" omnis had a similar look that tied all of them together, like the Archives did. This newer design is just awful from an aesthetic standpoint compared to the previous one.
I actually didn't buy the JLA Omni V1 because it was different than the rest of the line. I don't know why it is so hard to reuse the design file from the previous volume.
Every place I've worked basically forced you to do the opposite: don't waste time trying something new, just keep doing everything the same. Copy the previous one.

If I'm not mistaken, DC reprinted that JLA vol 1 and the Flash SA Vol 1 to have matching dust jackets. And then this. Just weird.
Back when the archives were coming out, I was kinda happy they never replaced the old Milton Glaser DC bullet with the swish, etc. Nice uniformity on the shelves.
You are correct, they did put new covers in those but my eagerness to own it disappeared.
I hate even font size changes between volumes or even if a logo is on every spine but one is higher/lower than others.

Can't blame you.
One other example: I buy most monthly titles in paperback. I noticed with the current Batman series, with vol 10 they left off the number on the spine, although it's pretty bold on the back cover. Not helpful when shelved.
I had a small Christmas party with friends. We've been getting together for years and giving each other gifts. One friend is into comic books along with me and gave me volume one of the Colossal Attack on Titan series. Easily the largest paperback graphic novel I own now. Both in size and page length.
In other news, for those that bought the limited edition slipcase of The Incal, it appears to be out of stock and the aftermarket asking price is moving up there.

I'm actually considering selling my Incal. Maybe I should wait and let the demand go up a little.

I agree with anyone that this edition would make sense if it did match the Incal slipcase. However, all the solicitation information I've seen indicates it will not match. :(

As a limited numbered slipcased edition, it's probably going to remain one of the best versions available so the desirability likely isn't going to drop. I'd look at sold items on Ebay to get the best idea of what it is actually going for. Cheapest on Amazon right now is listed at about $175 IIRC.

I'm pretty keen on these Gabz Captain America prints. I ordered a regular set. This gallery regularly releases comic book related art prints if that is of interest: https://greymatterart.com/collections...
Anyone gifting comic books this year in hopes of getting people interested in something you love? I'm gifting the first two volumes of Vinland Saga to two of my brothers and a friend. We'll see if I can get them interested in the series. :)
I've gifted a copy of the Monstress hardcover to two people (technically to three people since one of their spouses will also read a copy I gifted).

New this week in comic book stores (and IST) in the USA:
House of Secrets the Bronze Age omnibus vol 2
Promethea DLX vol 2
Pretty quiet on the release schedule. No doubt due to Christmas. :)

I see already that Hickman has invented another language hah.

And more of his diagrams and logos!
I've started a thread to discuss the book here, with spoilers allowed.

My copy of Hox/Pox won't arrive till either tomorrow or Christmas day. I ordered it from IST on 13 Dec but I heard they have thousands more orders this year around Black Friday and early December than they did last year so they had a backlog for getting things shipped out. They are a smaller family run company so thousands of extra orders isn't necessarily easy to flex. While it would be nice to get things faster, it is still worth the peace of mind knowing my book will be in pristine condition when it arrives. :)

Lemire Animal Man is an omnibus I predict will sell out with no plan on a reprint. If interested go for it.

I’m in the same boat! I really only needed v1 but got v2. I will probably get all three to complete it.
I just need a couple more books to hit my goal of books read for the year. I've mostly been reading prose books the last few days. Jim Mattis' memoir Call Sign Chaos and the new Malcom Gladwell book, Talking to Strangers.

One is issue 333 and one is 345. From what I can remember, 333 was nothing significant story wise. 345 is a Todd McFarlane cover but wasn’t his first Issue. Not sure why those were chosen.
Just a warning to all: these first issues aren’t the greatest parts of David’s run. You kind of have to slog through this to get to the good stuff next volume.

For the last 1.5 years I have fallen off the hardcover collection wagon. Now I am thinking of to gradually get back on it again. I am pretty sure there are some amazing stories I have missed in the mean time. And I am pretty sure that this group can help me with that.
For context,
Favorite Authors: Brubaker, Ennis, Remender, Hickman, Aaron
Favorite Genre: Crime Noir
Favorite Stories: Criminal, Sleeper, Captain America by Brubaker, Punisher by Garth Ennis, Uncanny X-Force, Fear Agent, BlackSad, Luther Strode, Scalped, Parker etc.
Thanks a lot for your help and time.
The most obvious one would be kill or be killed by Brubaker. Just came out on HC a couple weeks ago.

Thanks B. Will definitely check that out

Not a ton of new Crime Noir stuff comes to mind.
Rucka's Lazarus has three oversize hardcovers that may be worth checking out and the third one was recently released.
Remender has a new series, Death or Glory, that may fall into the genre but no hardcovers yet.
Hickman has a series, The Black Monday Murders, that may fall into your preferred genre but again, no hardcovers yet.
Lemire's Descender just had the second and final hardcover released. I still need to read it. :)
I really enjoyed Monstress. There is an 18 issue hardcover released a few months ago. It's hard/epic fantasy. The art is pretty great and I enjoyed the story. With 18 issues in the volume it will likely be a year at least before we see a second volume.

With that list of authors, I’d imagine Matt Kindt would be on there. Still a lot of great HC offerings of his on IST.
In the same vein, check out Lemire’s Descender, which just got volume 2 as a HC released. Vol 2 wraps descender, which then goes to Ascender (first TPB of that dropped a few weeks ago)

Does anyone read that transformers? That IP was never one I really got into, but always up for discovering new stories and IDW has been doing a beautiful job on the TMNT DLX HCs

I've been curious but never tried the series. Not sure if one can just start with phase 2? I think some of the phase 1 hardcovers can be hard to find at reasonable prices.
I have read the IDW GI Joe stuff and enjoyed it.

These are a Judge Dredd one and a Marvel one (‘Ultimate Marvel Graphic Novel Collection’, confusingly).
There’s a few missing from the end of the Marvel collection that are in boxes *somewhere* and I bailed out when they kept extending the run. They’re nice collections through.
I also get the general 2000 AD one but it’s nowhere near finished yet.

Very nice. I have the omnibus TPB they put out. They are fine but i would obviously prefer some hardcovers. I know Eaglemoss has a whole collection in hardcover too.
