What have you added to your collection recently?
Anyone still hunting for DH Star Wars HCs? I wrote it off years ago when Disney seemed it no longer canon. That being said, I’m feeling I may be missing out on some great stories. Is there a must have from DH Star Wars?

Anyone else wish you could digest comics at 2x speed like you do podcasts? BTW I’m ready for podcasts to bump it to 3x.

I find that I'm already in too much of a rush and read without really absorbing sometimes. (Read without looking at the art for example.) I'd rather simply have more free time so I wouldn't feel the need to get through the book so quickly.
Now podcasts, I really should speed up. Digesting simply by ear I can do much faster.

I like to go slow on books I really enjoy. I want to go fast on books I pick up and think “eh.” Most people are able to just put it down and not pick it up, but if I open a book, regardless of how terrible, I feel I have to finish it.
Same here. Have to finish what I started. I can only think of one exception: Neal Adams’ Batman Odyssey.

I read 1-2 issues per night also. Mainly comes down to how much time I have. Agree with Erik though: if it's not a good book I do tend to read through quickly just to get it over with.
When I read a long omnibus, I usually take a break maybe every 5-8 issues and read something else. Breaks up the monotony of one title and helps me stay focused and not rush through it.

The new Snyder Batman omnibus is supposed to be sewn (which does include some gluing) but is reportedly pretty tight. My copy should arrive today.
For this week I only ordered the second Savage Sword of Conan Omnibus with variant cover. I'll have to pick up the second Isabella hardcover when it comes back in stock on IST.
In non-book collecting news I did finally purchase a Black Widow by Olly Moss print. It's one I've been hunting for some time. I framed and hung it yesterday (Hobby Lobby frame). Now that I see it on the wall I wish this had been a 18 by 24 size print and the background was more of a cream or off-white versus the bright white paper. I won't be surprised if the print gets a bit more scarce and pricey when the new Black Widow film finally drops. Of course, it could also go the other way with it getting less desirable with more prints coming out with the film.

It's time for the annual Goodreads voting for best books of the year. This includes a graphic novel section: https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward...
Many of the selections are not something I've read (this is true every year for some reason). I picked between Monstress and Die Die Die. I initially was going to vote Monstress but realized it's the fourth arc which I haven't read and went with the latter choice.

Was kill or be killed delayed or did it sell out. My mind is so fried lately I can’t remember if what i saw was it up for purchase earlier today or if I’m remembering looking at the coming soon yesterday.
The Kill or Be Killed DLX should be coming tomorrow according to IST ( more likely it will be delayed until 26 Nov 19 if it is released a week before Amazon gets it on 3 Dec 19). Previewsworld does not list it for this week or next.
I'll likely be ordering the Swamp Thing Absolute on Friday along with Cate's Venom OHC.

I grabbed that box set, but haven’t opened it yet.
Thanks for the IST sale info!! I never get those emails.

I like Grant Morrison's run very much for its weirdness, and have the silver age omnibus like it ok. I'd like this one to fill the gap, but on the other hand don't want to buy a book too bad never going to open it.
Thanks for sharing any reading experience.

Thanks Joseph. I think I'm going to skip this one...

I forgot to look for UA v2 but I guess it didn’t matter. I picked up teen titans omnibus v4 and kill or be killed. I’ll decide later on new frontier.

Between the Snyder Batman omnibus from a couple weeks ago and the Absolute Swamp Thing and Absolute New Frontier I have in the mail, I figured I needed to lay low for a bit. Unfortunately, I was made aware that the third Batman Knightfall omnibus was 60% on Amazon last night, so thats now on its way to me. Since I have NO self control, I'll probably get volumes 1 and 2 at IST when their BF/CM sale starts. Oh and the Tomasi Batman omnibus reprint comes out next week along with the Witchfinder omnibus, so November is shaping up to be quite expensive!

He drew a closeup of the Samaritan.

I also got the Star Trek Stardate Collection #1 and #2 from IDW, sad to see that they didn‘t continue with the collection.

Yeah, November sure has been a heavy month for me as well. Snyder Batman omni (which I'm about half way through), Absolute Swampthing, Absolute New Frontier on the way.
Also I've decided that the Fables Absolutes may be a bit unwieldy if they're all 30+ issues each, so I picked up the Fables Deluxe Ed vols 1-3. And the Deluxe Ed. Rebirth Detective Comics 1-4. Add to that the Tomasi Batman & Robin releasing next week (and Annihilation the first week in December).
Whew! I have a list of omnis, absolutes and deluxe eds I'm working to pick up on slow months, but that list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter anytime soon.

Wow that sketch is really something special, I am incredibly jealous!
@Karsten, I was finally able to login on a desktop and see that drawing by Brent and that is tremendously beautiful. Congrats!
Hopefully with the new Astro City scheduled, Brent can be the artist full time from now on.

Did anyone open their absolute swamp thing yet? It is a stunning looking book! The hardcover itself has a velvety “moss” texture to it. Flipping through the book the colors just pop right off the page. DC really outdid themselves in this one. Can’t wait to get the rest of the series and read them straight through.

I really like mine! The spongy cover is really neat and I haven't had any of the binding/warping issues that I saw over on the collected editions thread. Totally worth a pick up if you are on the fence
My Absolute Swamp Thing is still on its way. Should arrive Friday along with Cate's Venom OHC. :)
Books scheduled to come out tomorrow (on IST):
Descender HC vol 2
Realm TPB vol 3
Umbrella Academy Library Edition vol 2
Witchfinder Omnibus vol 2 (standard size HC)
Matteo HC vol 2
Batman and Robin by Tomasi & Gleason Omnibus (reprint)
Timely's Greatest Human Torch Omnibus (+DM variant)
The Complete Gail Simone Red Sonja HC

- X-Men Legion Quest OHC
- X-Men Onslaught Aftermath TPB
- X-Men: Revolution Omnibus
- X-Men: Eve of Destruction OHC
- Spider-Man: Clone Saga Omnibus Vol. 1
- Spider-Man: Ben Reilly Omnibus Vol. 1
And odd man out:
- Ultimate Spider-Man: Death of Spider-Man Omnibus
All the X-Men titles are honestly replacements of floppy collections I already have, which is quite redundant, but I like the hardcover versions better, especially on my shelves. Plus they contain other comics peripheral to the main plot line that I never grabbed, so looking forward to future read-throughs.
But man...the Spider-Man omnis? I remember as a kid wanting to read the clone saga comics but never having the means to collect them all. I know some people knock the story line, but now that I have both volumes I’m very excited!

I plan to get Descender and Umbrella Academy, although I'm hesitant since I haven't read UA V1 (only seen the show). Makes me anxious to buy stuff I've never read.
@noelbeast - Agreed about the books looking better on the shelves. I'm content with just rebuying the "classic" X-Men stuff (roughly through UXM V4 I think.)
The clone saga actually got me to stop reading Spider-Man for awhile, but I think at the time I was so "offended" that they would tell me, the faithful reader, my favorite character was a clone all these years! How dare they!
I should probably read those and give it a chance. I'm sure it isn't as bad as I think/thought it was. Also have never read that Ben Reilly stuff. That's a fairly large gap in my Spidey reading knowledge.

When I started my X-Men collection years ago, I was just focused on the stuff I read as a kid (mid-80’s to late 90’s). But then I started thinking well why not the classics before my time? And then after those I started thinking why not the modern, acclaimed stories? And then I just started filling in gaps and the rest is history...
But honestly I did wince slightly when I bought the Revolution omni. That’s some bad Claremont in my opinion, and while mostly forgettable, I’d say it ranks up there with Austen’s run as some of the worst X-Men published. If I buy a HC of any of Chuck’s work (if ever published), it’ll be clear I have a serious problem and I need to be stopped. Don’t enable me guys, haha.
As for the Clone Saga, that would be the gist of the complaints I’ve seen on the run: how dare they pull that rug out from under me! I’ve also seen people complain that it was overall a bloated story line that dragged for far too long, but guess we’ll see. Not everyone speaks very kindly of 90’s Marvel, but that was the heyday of my youthful attempts at serious collecting, and damn it all if I didn’t enjoy myself then!

LOL, I've read a little of Austen's X-Men, run and I think it is universally agreed to be some of the worst X-Men stories. And that's saying something to put some of Claremont's work close to that.
The "completist" bug is hard to resist sometimes. I know I've got plenty of stuff that I don't like just because "ya gotta have 'em all" (looking at my 90's comic trading cards.) The 90's stories don't always hold up well over time, but that X-Men era right after Claremont was really exciting back then.
And if you enjoy stuff that other people dislike, screw what they think.

Instocktrades.com will have a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale.
Save an extra 3% on Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse. Save an extra 7% on Fantagraphics, IDW, Dynamite, and Boom Studios. Deals of the week should be 53% off.
Use the code BlackFriday at checkout.
Looks like there are two covers for the Descender HC vol 2 book but it's the same artwork on each with either a black or a white background. I think I may have gotten the regular cover last time because the art was about family instead of the more abstract art work on the other option. Seemed to fit the story better.

@Noelbeast, Relstuart & Blindzider: I'm glad that I'm not the only one sucked into buying hardcopy book versions of existing floppies that I have! My period of floppies was mostly from Phalanx Covenant days till after Onslaught. So getting Legion Quest and Onslaught Aftermath was like walking down memory lane (they REALLY should make a proper omnibus for the "Road to Onslaught" - which is currently sold as 3x trade paperbacks in the Complete Collection (which I bought...).
I'm almost done reading Revolution (Claremont) and I agree with Noelbeast, that it's very forgettable. I can see some aspects of Claremont trying to revive the series at the turn of the century by using his old twists and dialogue. But I think applying 1970s paint to 2000 doesn't stack up. His work in the early days were groundbreaking. But one can only pull off the same trick so many times. Just my humble opinion here, as am probably not as well-read as many of you Gents here.
I look forward to Eve of Destruction, and was super glad that it was made into an Omni. I'm working my way up from 2000 onwards (UXM 387 currently).
And Noelbeast, I think your Chuck Austen temptation may come to fruition! His work and Peter Milligan's (2004-2006?) are being resurrected in the following upcoming books:
UXM#425-#436 X-Men: Trial of the Juggernaut (recently released)
UXM#437-#443 X-Men: Reload (release 2 June 2020)
XM#166-#176 X-Men by Peter Milligan Vol. 1 : Dangerous Liaisons (released last year)
XM#177-#187 X-Men by Peter Milligan Vol. 2 (expected in 2020)
I look forward to what 2020 will bring!

@Sean: I stopped reading floppies as a kid right around “Road to Onslaught”, so that was a fun collection plus the Onslaught omni to pick up and read end to end—always curious about where they were going with the initial teases to the story. Like you, wish they release all 3 Road volumes in 1 omni, and maybe we’ll get it eventually, but I’d rather see a UXM vol 4 first. Those trips down memory lane, though—can’t be beat!
If I remember correctly, Claremont tried to introduce new races in Revolution? I admire the man for all the work he did to make the X-Men what they are now, but that was a truly a slog. Please no one ban me for saying this, but I actually like Austen’s work a little more since he didn’t just try the old escalation technique that Claremont was pulling with Revolution: the X-Men are powerful, so let’s introduce even more powerful (forgettable) new villains! Claremont did something similar too in my absolute least favorite storyline, UXM 455-461 (right before Whedon’s run on Astonishing) where the X-Men encounter some weird Dino-human race that’s weaker than our merry mutants but still manage to telepathically overpower Rachel Summers (???) and nearly destroy the world. It was bizarre, and the artwork of Rachel becoming a half-human half-dino...ugh, still haunts me to this day. Fun fact: that was also when Wolverine was abducted and brainwashed by Hydra to kill superheroes (excellent arc), and Claremont had Wolverine in his story first but he just...disappears. I didn’t expect Claremont to have a hand in that particular Hydra tale, but still, dang disappointing.
I hope you enjoy Eve of Destruction! I found it to be a nice conclusion of sorts to what started in the X-Men vol. 2 series with Magneto ramping up his villainy and the Fatal Attractions storyline.
As for new, quasi-collections of Austen’s run being released, I find that hilarious, but I actually have all his X-Men work already in TPB form. I pray to god they don’t ever release a hardcover version because you know what I’ll do. Not proud of it, but hey, gotta collect ‘em all........
I read the new Venom OHC vol 1 by Donny Cates this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Love the sci-fi tone as Cates' is re-creating and resetting some of the background on where the Venom symbiote comes from in this story. Venom has often seemed more grounded in gritty street level horror vs more sci-fi though I haven't read a lot of Venom material.
For the little ongoing Marvel material I've read, between Immortal Hulk and this, I liked the Venom material more.
