Sounds like a good price. :)

I grabbed Massive Library Edition on a whim with my last IST order. Price was good, Dark horse rarely disappoints me and I love their library formats.

Has anyone read this series? Is it good? I like grabbing new things on a whim.

message 5153: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I’m leaving for Canada soon. So I’ve been picking up a few things 😅

I’m worried about getting cheap GNs in Canada. IST charges for shipping, international shipping will be spendy, and most of eBay is the US. It’ll probably be Amazon or LCBS.

Those DH LEs are legit. My Fear Agent LEs are my favorite books ever.

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Yes sir. Fear Agent Libraries isn’t leaving my collection ever.

message 5155: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I believe they’re OOP and going for at least $100 each on eBay.

message 5156: by Paul (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Is it sacrilege that I just sold my Fear Agent LEs? 😬. Fully agree the books have a great build, the story just wasn’t for me.

message 5157: by J (new)

J | 531 comments I liked Massive for the most part. A few issues were a bit choppy, meaning the story didn't quite flow for me. Overall, though, it was a great concept and executed well.

message 5158: by Erik, Moderator (new)

Eastham Erik (erikakasash501) | 851 comments Mod
Absolutely not Paul, hold onto what you like and that’s it. I’m at a point where I’m happy to free up some space by selling books I didn’t love.

Fear Agent was just nearly perfect for me and cemented Remender as one of my top writers (I think Low is still my favorite of his BTW)

message 5159: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Agree about Fear Agent and LOW. Any word on a second HC for Low or are issues coming out really slowly? I assume that art takes forever.

message 5160: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Random FYIs:

After suffering through early 90s X-men and X-force during my X-men read through - now onto Wedding of Cyclops and Phoenix and it’s actually fantastic.

Also, Saga Book 2 was very good but Saga Book 3 is back to being amazing.

Parable HC has such wonderful Moebius art that even being so thin it’s worth the 1/2 price on IST, but the sticker price would have been a lot. Also the cover folds out into a giant poster which I bet a lot of people would love.

Nick, I’ve been asking and looking for info on Low DLX vol 2 for a long time. I do think it will happen, but not this year by any means. I suggest following remender and image on Instagram and FB and whenever possible, comment about what you want.

message 5162: by Karsten (new)

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Besides the usual bunch of Marvel and DC omnis I added some interesting books to my collection recently. I really recommend the youtube channel "For the Love of Comics" if you want to get some non-superhero ideas.
Added:
- Sculptor by Scott McLoud: Not oversize but decent looking hardcover
- Aliens 30th Anniversary / Dark Horse
- Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Box Set
- Tardi's WWI Box Set

and some artists editions, namely The Goon and MAD (which is HUGE, as huge as the Behold..Galactus book).

Paid over cover for a book today. Something I do very rarely, the seventh TPB omnibus of Blade of the Immortal is apparently pretty hard to find. Cover price is like $22 and I paid $38 for a copy through the Amazon marketplace (which includes shipping). For a week or so the only copy listed was over $100.

I saw Busiek posted pictures of the new massive Marvels book. I've actually never read Marvels so I may pick this up and finally give it a read. :)

You've never read Marvels?!?

Did he mention if it included the epilogue?

I didn't see any comments on the contents of Marvels. The pictures looked fantastic though.

Just found this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TE15p...

Edit: Looks amazing in the video and reviewer mentioned it does not contain extras that may be included in other versions.

message 5167: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Some nice books coming from Marvel. That John Byrne She-Hulk and the Tales of Suspense by Lee and Ditko are musts for me, and I'll probably get the Black Widow Omnibus, too.

Ordered the Marvels Monster Size edition and went ahead and got Monstress to give it a try.

message 5169: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I could use some advice - the new Marvels hardcover versus the one in March? I know this current one is giant and the other one has the epilogue issue.

Advice?

message 5170: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Maybe I'm confused but I think the epilogue is a standalone issue first. There was a remastered OHC scheduled but think it got postponed possibly to have the epilogue added but I don't think it originally had the epilogue in it.

Still wish they would just do an Omnibus with Marvels, epilogue and eye of the camera. Then add whatever extras. Not sure why that hasn't happened.

message 5171: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I think the epilogue, annotated re-issues and variant covers (coming out in 2/2020) are going into an OHC due out in spring 2020... I think?

Go for the older edition similar to the x-men adamantium; Marvels Platinum Edition. I have that one and love it, slip case too. https://www.amazon.com/Marvels-Platin...

message 5173: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Slipcase version looks cool but would be the priciest option seems like so probably will do one of the new versions

According to Hachette, the anniversary edition is actually the annotated edition. Dang, I may end up getting this one too.
My Monster size version should be here in a week or two and I'll post some comments about it.:

https://www.hachettebookgroup.biz/tit...

The timeless classic that changed the way we look at Marvel super heroes celebrates its 25th birthday in style! Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross' original tour through the early history of the Marvels - as captured through the lens of photojournalist Phil Sheldon - is collected in full, together with dozens of pages of brand new commentary from the two iconic creators! Then, Busiek and Ross reunite for an amazing new epilogue featuring the all-new, all-different X-Men in deadly battle against the Sentinels- with the now-retired Phil and his daughters caught in the middle! Plus, a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the epilogue; scripts, sketches and scores of other bonus features; and a stunning gallery of MARVELS 25th Anniversary Tribute variant covers!

COLLECTING: MARVELS ANNOTATED (2019) 1-4, MARVELS EPILOGUE (2019) 1, MARVELS 25TH TRIBUTE VARIANTS

Hmm. Well I hope annotated in this case means just “dozens of pages with brand new commentary.” When I think of annotated, I tend to think of work where comments are scribbled on the page, arrows drawn here and there, things crossed out, etc. I trust they wouldn’t do something like that when artwork is involved.

message 5176: by Darth Bane (new)

Darth Bane | 261 comments I picked up that platinum edition for $40 new on Amazon a few years ago with a coupon deal. It's one of my favorite books, so if you can find it for a price you can justify grab it - its really something special I don't feel the need to grab the monster sized edition despite the fact that the art probably looks nicer. I have the original print run floppies and the new epilogue issue that just came out. Thats good enough for me until the complete omnibus with eye of the camera comes out for the 50th anniversary and the black and white studio/sketch edition comes out for the 100th.

message 5177: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Ha, I bet the 100th anniversary is going to have some amazing bonus features, I’ll hold out for that I guess.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Anyone have an opinion on the marvel Artist Select Series, the red cover slipcase series?

There is a Byrne FF coming out I may get. Beyond the advice “if you like the artist enough it’s worth it?” - can anyone comment on the quality or if they have one and found it rewarding even if they have the work in other formats?

I have the Perez Avengers book and I think the quality is pretty strong. While the book is expensive, I took the cost it would take me to travel to an event and get an autograph into account, and buying the book is a lot cheaper.

message 5183: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I was expecting that John Byrne book to pop up on IST, but it didn't and since there usually isn't a discount I just went ahead and ordered through IDW directly. I assume they do a good job shipping things out safely, fingers crossed.

The Isabellae hardcover is already sold out on IST. I missed it there and ordered on Amazon for almost twice as much. :(

From IST I ordered Eclipse TPB vol 4, the Silver Surfer Parable HC, Superman Rebirth DLX vol 4, and an extra copy of the Monstress HC since I'm planning on giving a couple copies away for Christmas.

I paused my reading of Vinland Saga but have the first six and just started the fourth one. I'm all caught up on the Blade of the Immortal TPB omnibus editions. Just have to wait for the last volume to come out in November. Nice to be able to get the full 30 volumes in 10 books and only have to wait a few months for the final book to be available.

I heard the final 35th Anniversary Akira box sets are being shipped out from the company. So once Amazon and other suppliers are out there won't be any more.

What releases are you really looking forward to the rest of this year?

I'm looking forward to:
The second Descender HC
The third Lazarus HC
The final Blade of the Immortal TPB Omnibus
Berserk HC vol 3
Batman Eternal Omnibus
Batman Last Knight on Earth HC
Absolute Swamp Thing
House of X HC

There probably are a few other books I'll pick up but these are the ones I'm really looking forward to picking up. :) The lack of more from the big two is probably a change for me versus the last few years.

There are still several series I am really hoping we see solicits for (next year most likely) - Birthright has been my most wanted for some time.

message 5188: by Darth Bane (new)

Darth Bane | 261 comments Yeah that absolute swamp thing is on my list too. It totally deserves the absolute treatment.

Here is my to buy list:

John Byrne Spider-Man Omnibus September 4 IST
Absolute Arkham Asylum September 11 IST

Baltimore Omnibus October 9
Absolute Swamp Thing October 16
Batman by Snyder Omnibus October 16 ???

Absolute New Frontier November 20

Batman and Robin Omnibus November 27 ???

Absolute DKR III December 4

Witchfinder Omnibus December 11

Power of Shazam v1 March 10
Baltimore Omnibus vol 2 March 18
ASM by JMS Omnibus vol 2 March 18

Shazam the Worlds Mightiest Mortal vol 2 May 5

There's a couple on here I'm not 100% sold on, but there's a while until I have to decide.

Nickviola | 1019 comments The super oversized Marvels arrived and it’s exactly the same size as the Behold Galactus book which is cool. I didn’t realize how good the writing/story was and while I’m not an Alex Ross lover it’s obviously incredible work. I do wish these pages were maybe just a little thicker in these books, they are just so large I worry about the ripping even on routine page turns but maybe that’s OCD.

I also got the Byrne FF Artist Select Series, I’m #787 and ordered direct through IDW. Very well packed and arrived perfect. What a cool book! Unlike an Art Edition it collects full little arcs, so like 8ish issues on the nicest paper I have in any book. The cover is sewn and embossed and in a slipcase. The FF page Byrne signs is a great team shot. I kind of wasn’t sure the role of this book, but I can see wanting to read some Byrne FF but note bringing down the omnibus and instead reading on the higher quality (non-glossy) printing in this book. I would love to see an Alan Davis Excalibur or Dave Cockram X-Men version.

I received my monster sized Marvels as well. Just flipping through brought a smile to my face, not only because of the story but there's something about seeing it at that size.

message 5192: by Paul (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Just went my first month without buying any books to add to the collection! It's been a slow few months for me; I guess I've been reading more than buying.

Through the rest of 2019, I'm in for
- Remaining Harrow County LE volumes
- Batman by Snyder Vol.1 Omnibus
- Injustice Omnibus Vol.1 Omnibus
- Strangers in Paradise Hardcover Omnibus Collection (missed this 10 years ago!)
- The Flash by Johns Vol.1 Omnibus (Reprint)
- Sixth Gun Deluxe Vol. 6
- Thanos Infinity Ending OHC
- Witchfinder Vol. 1 Omnibus
- Baltimore Vol.1 Omnibus

Also getting a bunch of TPBs but these are the OHC/Omnis I'm after.

Good lists. I forgot about Snyder's Batman omnibus number 1. I bought the small hardcovers but I think I'll go ahead and upgrade to the omnibus.

The Super Sons omnibus has been out of stock on IST for a while now and it out of stock on Amazon. I was excited about it but then realized a portion of it I already had in the Superman DLX volumes and I held off picking it up.

message 5194: by Nickviola (last edited Aug 15, 2019 07:35PM) (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments To stay complete with my Valiant collection, I still need to pick up Britannia and Ninja-K deluxes, so that will probably get bundled into my next buy. Other stuff I am excited for this year includes:

SEP
--Timely’s Greatest: Sub-Mariner Omnibus
--20th Century Boys Perfect Edition 5
--Umbrella Academy Vol. 1

OCT
--Absolute Swamp Thing 1
--Timely’s Greatest: Human Torch Omnibus
--Umbrella Academy Vol. 2

NOV
--Strangers in Paradise (already pre-ordered)
--Sixth Gun DLX 6
--Baltimore Omnibus

DEC
--Timely’s Greatest: Simon&Kirby Omnibus
--Witchfinder Omnibus
--Y: the last man Omnibus (I gave my deluxes away to a patient and am currently leaning toward this instead of the absolutes mostly to save money and the art isn't the draw for me)
--Annihilation Omnibus
--X-Men: Shattershot

I don't think I would have guessed Conan was going to continue to be this popular. Cool to see an OHC with new material selling very well. Hopefully that bodes well for this sort of thing continuing to get printed.

Nickviola, I'll be curious about your thoughts on the Y the Last Man omnibus from the perspective of whether it's too big. That does seem like a lot of issues in one book.

I'll probably pick up Shattershot and Umbrella Academy as well. Not sure I want to read ahead of the show or not though.

Like others, don't have much in the pipeline. There's nothing I'm dying to read though:

MMW Two-in-One
Absolute Swamp Thing
Absolute Arkham Asylum (never my favorite but the art is cool)
Umbrella Academy
Baltimore Omnibus (very curious about this)
Annihilation Omnibus (finally!)
Immortal Hulk V1 OHC (highly recommend)
Marvel Handbook Omnibus
House/Powers of X OHC
Sixth Gun V6 (plan a straight read-through of the entire series)

Some stuff I hope shows up in the library but don't plan on buying:
Batman Damned
Heroes in Crisis
Superman Up in the Sky
Doomsday Clock

I think I'd like to know more about where those numbers came from first. They seem very low for across the US, unless I missed something.

message 5199: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Relstuart: They list the omnibus at 1440 which is the exact same number as Ex Machina (so maybe they are just rounding?) and 40 pages less than Fourth World, which were both definitely big and I'm not going to bring on a plane, but manageable.

I dont love the deluxe page counts - a little thin - or the quality of the dust jacket and I heard the Absolutes didn't age much so paying 75 for the omnibus vs. 225 for the absolutes vs. used deluxe again - pretty sure it will be omnibus but not out of particular excitement for the format.

I believe this is from Diamond. That would account for all sales through comic book shops including IST. Not sure if it counts retailers like Amazon or other bookstores.
