Vinland Saga is going to be my next manga sampling. I've heard good things from quite a few folks and I Googled the art and it looks decent enough for me. While the books are not oversized, I do like the fact they are hardbacks.
You can check out some comments on the first book here: https://www.amazon.com/Vinland-Saga-1...

I think it is still ongoing with volume 11 coming in November. The books run about 400 pages each but it seems like manga read faster than western comics (a little more art focus vs dialog).

Beautiful. Nice deal!

WOW! That's a big book! You got a good deal! Also cute kitty!

- Wedding of Cyclops & Phoenix Omni
- Civil War II & Hunt for Wolverine hardcovers
- Hawkeye by Fraction Omni
My copy of Amazing Spider-Man vol. 4 was sitting out on my porch when I got back, thank you IST, and also picked up a couple of CGC universal grade 9.4’s for Secret Wars #8 & Amazing Spider-Man #252 (symbiote suits).
Finally, while at the Con I got to (briefly) interact with the great Neal Adams. His booth wasn’t really popular (shame), and I stopped in and watched him sketch for a bit. He commented about some of his drawings that I had looked through, which I complimented him on and I thanked him for everything he’s done for the industry. He gave me a smile that made my week. He’s done a lot more work for DC and I’m solidly a Marvel fan, but it was still a great experience.

I’d say it’s a great opportunity if you ever get the chance to go to one. I loved seeing all the devoted fans around. People pushing merchandise gets a bit annoying, but it was fun seeing all the creativity, artwork and costumes, plus all the fans there were just so positive.
That’s cool about communication with Michel Fiffe! I like his art style!

Neal Adams got kinda a bad rep in recent years because he charges people for autographs and photos. Is he still charging $50 for an autograph.
I thought everyone charged for autographs now.
I thought his rep was bad because he's been overstating his importance and contribution to the industry.
Regardless, I'd still like to get his signature on my X-Men omnibus.

$60 for a comic off his table that he’d sign. I’ve already got something signed by him, so I wasn’t interested.
Don’t know your thoughts, but I don’t get that bad rep mentality. Adams lived and fought through that era where he and other artists weren’t fairly compensated for their work. And today people left and right have been profiting on the aftermarket sale of merchandise signed by him and other greats. To me it’s only logical that the greats get a cut too, since it’s their popularity and achievements that drives the market.
If you notice some of my posts on here you’ll see that I chase signatures in addition to buying omnis. About a year ago I made an offer on an eBay listing for a John Romita Sr. signed comic that was crazy overpriced. I sent the guy my max and he declined, stating verbatim that “he’ll die soon, so I can wait to get more.” Messed up.

That's... simply horrible. It makes me not want to buy anything from any seller. Only pay for signatures that I get in person so at least the creator makes the profit.

Wow, for that price I'd have picked it up as well. I only have the original standard sized covers. Nice to see you back, D.

Yes. That comment single-handedly pushed me to buy the exact comic guy on eBay was selling and get John’s signature myself. I couldn’t do it in person so some of what I paid didn’t go directly to John, and it took forever to get the comic back, but still felt so much more satisfying.

Just a reminder that we do have a Manga recommendation and discussion thread here (seems like more and more members are reading it and making recommendations, so we can put them there)
I know many still like to post general questions and comments in this thread though.
As such, anyone read the dragon ball manga? Is there any point if you’ve seen the show? Granted it’s been more than 20+ years, but the box sets came out and just thought I’d ask.

Is it in the same vein as the Behold Galactus or similar to any other format? Interested in both size and quality.
For my order this week I'm trying the TPB book Die vol 1, Cemetery Beach, Blackbird vol 1, and I'm Standing on a Million Lives vol 1.
IST hasn't shipped my order from last week yet as they haven't picked up Vinland Saga volume 3 for the order. I'm probably going to just pick those on Amazon as they are pretty sturdy little hardcovers printed on cheap paper and a couple dollars cheaper per book. I ordered the first two from Amazon and they arrived in perfect shape.

I recently ordered a few books from Amazon because they were cheaper than IST... surprising, the books were delivered in perfect conditions. Granted, they weren't omnibus....

Yeah, I feel like oversize books is where Amazon is more lacking in the packing department. One or two standard size books have usually gotten through safe to me. :) Plus, the oversize books are generally on good paper and should easily last multiple decades in great shape. However, some of these inexpensive manga books with poorer paper are going to degrade pretty significantly during that time. So, I'm not as concerned with quality for them.

I finished reading Kindt's volume 1 DLX of X-O Manowar. It was really good with great art. I do recommend it. :)
I read The Black Knight TPB from Zenoscope. Not good - good art but the writing wasn't good.

Did Britannia not release on IST? I think this happened with Imperium too for their Valiant releases; a few weeks after other retailers

I ordered a copy of the first HC and it's pending shipping from IST. I really liked Rucka's Lazarus.

Read Aaron's vol 3 OHC of his female Thor run this weekend. I was initially a bit let down with the first two volumes because his first run on (male) Thor was fantastic and the first two with female Thor felt ordinary once you got past the change in who Thor is. In OHC 3 things really start heating up with some of the opening battles leading to the big War of the Realms story and we see some very interesting story developments with some of the broader cast of Thor's characters (War Thor is awesome) getting some action.
Finished reading the Hunt for Wolverine OHC. Neat that they did this book but it really is just them hunting for Wolverine... I guess there should be a follow-up book of them finding him and his return? It would be nice if Marvel would get around to soliciting that if that is the plan....

- Fatal Attractions Omni (replaced older, beat up copy)
- X-Men: Inferno Crossovers Omni
- S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Collection Omni
- Silver Surfer Omni (Slott & the Allreds)
- Slabbed, graded copy of Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man 101
Plus some new bags, boards and frames to hang up various signed and slabbed comics. My man cave is slowly developing into the room I’ve always envisioned...

Just got that Hunt for Wolverine book a couple of weeks ago. Really wish Marvel would release a Death of Wolverine complete collection in HC, not to mention a follow-up.
Read a couple books last night - Cemetery Beach by Warren Ellis is about a spec ops solider sent to a planet colonized in secret and trying to elude the local authorities after escaping their grasp. Just a fun action style story.
Die by Kieron Gillen is a fantasy story about a group of kids with a Narnia experience but one of them failed to come home and none of them can talk about what happened for years until one day they go back.... The art is killer in this book and the story is interesting. If you were on the fence I think it is worth checking out.

I’m hesitant on Gillen. Read the first two DLX of wicked and divine and thought it was overrated.

I haven't tried Gillen's WicDiv but I really liked his Kid Loki run with Marvel. Easily my favorite thing I've read by him. His Young Avengers run was just ok for me.
