Vanessa | 282 comments I finished The Peace War (La guerra de la paz) and count for ATY Challenger (A book with a weird or intriguing title)

message 152: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments About the questions, I like "Does his surname begin with a letter from A-M?"

message 153: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Germain | 25 comments Agh- I have misplaced my computer charger, so I can’t copy and paste the questions or update the spreadsheet, but I read 128 pages yesterday (8th). My roommate is away for the weekend but I should be able to borrow her charger when she’s back tomorrow and fill things in!

message 154: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I agree with vanessa about the question?
Does the Authors surname begin with a letter from A-M?

message 155: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I did the Book Reader Problem tag. I also read 96 pages of Empire of Storms, and read both The Lorax (72 pages) and Just a Little Critter Collection (176 pages) although I;m not sure if either of those count. Maybe Little Critter was long enough to count.

message 156: by Marta (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments I read 66 pages today - did not have much time all day to read.

message 157: by AnnaNeverLands (new)

AnnaNeverLands | 15 comments Just did the Kickoff questionnaire!!

Lieke | 697 comments Debra wrote: "I agree with vanessa about the question?

Sounds like a good question to me too

message 159: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Debra wrote: "Here is my suggestion

Was the author born in the 1900's?

Sarah posted this one
“Has the author published 10 or more books?”"

These I like too

message 160: by AnnaNeverLands (new)

AnnaNeverLands | 15 comments I also did the Book Reader Problem Tag

message 161: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I did the book title Synonyms and Antonyms, still thinking about a few of them :)

message 162: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I did the Synonyms & Antonyms game. I also added it to the spreadsheet.

I think we have 3 questions right now. Based on the comments I’m thinking it’s safe to bold this question.

”Does the author’s surname begin with a letter from A-M?”

Do we want to try and narrow the letter further after getting the answer to this question (if now, then it’s N-Z so we could ask if it’s between N-R or some other set).

Or do we want to go ahead and ask something else. Some ideas suggested are

“Has their work been adapted for film/tv/theatre?”
“Is their work considered to be classics?”
“Have they published X (insert number here) or more books?”

Rachel wrote: "I did the Book Reader Problem tag. I also read 96 pages of Empire of Storms, and read both The Lorax (72 pages) and Just a Little Critter Collection (176 p..."

Yes, Little Critter is long enough. If it's a new author or for your ATY challenge then I can slot it in for bucket 4.

Sarah E wrote: "I have finished the The Other Daughter, by Lauren Willig. If needed, it would work for a book released during the summer. I read 200 pages today (6/8/19). I have also done The Book ..."

We aren't on that bucket just yet. If it is being used for your ATY challenge or a new author then we could use it for bucket 3.

Does the author's surname begin with a letter from A-M? Yes

As a reminder, it is probably best if people update their own page count and game count in the spreadsheet. The link is in the first post

message 165: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments I finished reading A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing, which counts as an ATY book and a new-to-me author. I read 224 pages yesterday and completed the Book Titles game; I added those to the spreadsheet.

message 166: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Germain | 25 comments I just finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , which was one of my ATY challenge books (a children's classic you've never read), so we can add this into the current bucket!

message 167: by Sarah (last edited Jun 09, 2019 05:21AM) (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I finished Sabrina which is for my ATY challenge and is a new-to-me author.

I believe we have one slot left for each of those so feel free to use it for either.

And I should finish An American Marriage this evening when I get off work which can be used for “A book related to nature” in the next bucket.

Since y'all are rocking the challenge so far, the mods have decided to add more buckets. There are now 11 buckets to be completed. Happy strategizing!

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
New Rule:

- You will also receive a new author if you incorrectly guess the author 4 times.

message 170: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments Laura, the book "The Peace War" count for ATY challenger too.

message 171: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Thank you, Vanessa! That means we have now finished Bucket 4 and have earned another questions.

message 172: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I just finished An American Marriage on my way to work (sorry, am on my phone so I cant link the book). it can be used for the nature slot

message 173: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad so if we have 3 question I think we should ask
Have they published X (insert number here) or more books?”

message 174: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments That question seems to have been brought up multiple times. I bold that question "Has he published more than 10 books?" I'd physically bold it, but I'm on the phone and it can't bold

message 175: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad "Has he published more than 10 books?

3 questions remaining.

Was it good? I really liked The Dog Stars and especially The Painter

Unfortunately not a new author to me or for ATY.

message 183: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments What about asking if he wrote in English?

message 184: by [deleted user] (new)

I read Wakenhyrst. Has a bird on the cover - Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver . 304 pages added to spreadsheet.

I also completed the Synonym and Antonym game.

message 185: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I have a suggestion for a question.

Did the author write children's book?

message 186: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Right now we just have the character name (starting with J-U-N-E) left for the current bucket.

We have Sarah's book but does anyone else have a book they could apply to this prompt? I don't want Sarah to take all the pressure ;)

message 187: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I’m almost done with Stone Sky, which has 2 main characters, Essun and Nassun, that will work. Should finish tonight.

message 188: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I was thinking I would read Final Girls by Riley Sager for a book discovered during read a thon

message 189: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Great! All have been added to the planning tab.

message 190: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments I think we have to watch asking if he wrote in English, translations can be confusing. if we asked if his native language was English would significantly narrow it down.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I think all we know about location on the author is 'not American', so I would vote for questions to narrow that down. Something like:

"Is he from the Northern Hemisphere?"

"Is he from Europe?"

"Is he from Asia?"

message 192: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I agree with further narrowing down the location.

message 193: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 47 comments I also agree with narrowing the location. I just finished the three individual day challenges. I also just finished reading The Wedding Date which was 320 pages.

message 194: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Finished Where the Crawdads Sing
and added page numbers. It was published in August when we get to the next bucket

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

I think we should narrow down location and name.

message 196: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad Finished Witch Inheritance (A Mackenzie Coven Mystery #1) by Sonia Parin just page count 158 pages

message 197: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments “Was he from Europe?” Or “Was he from Asia?”

“Does his surname begin with a letter from A-F?” Or “Does his surname begin with a letter from G-M?”

Someone can pick one from each — we have four questions I believe!

message 198: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments If we ask a specific continent then it narrows it dramatically. I say Europe.

message 199: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Is that an official question?

message 200: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I’ll make it official since there’s been a few people suggesting it 😊

Was he from Europe?”
