Katie | 2360 comments Was he from Europe? YES

message 202: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments So we have a deceased male European author who was born in the 1900s with a surname that begins with a letter from A-M

message 203: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments who wrote more than 10 novels

We're now at bucket 6! Go team :)

No pressure but team butterfly has guessed their author. We could still pull ahead if we can beat them on our buckets so I say we still buckle down and give them a run for their money

description

I have input the books in the main tracking. If you finished a book after Devin's let please check to see if it counts for a category in bucket 6 (published in summer or discovered during the read-a-thon)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Also, we went over the next set of 10 for games. So we have four questions available.

message 206: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments want to see if the author is British and try to narrow down the location more??

message 207: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Jun 09, 2019 04:20PM) (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Here's what we have so far:

European Deceased Male, born before 1950
Last name beginning with A-M
Published more than 10 books

message 208: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments What about narrowing down the birth date, like born after 1950 or something like that?

message 209: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments Birth date is good as well with me!

message 210: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Was he born after 1950? No

message 211: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Ok, we could ask about death date or awards earned.

message 212: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Hm, George Orwell? Albert Camus? Roald Dahl?

message 213: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments Not George Orwell (surname starts with A-M)

Some other options are Samuel Beckett, Kingsley Amis, Anthony Burgess, Martin Amis.

message 214: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I have about 100 pages left of Interview with the Vampire. Hope to finish today or tomorrow, but can wait if needed. It was first published May 1976 and no J UN E characters, so no help there. But if Vampires work for "Frankenstein Day" we can use it as a quirky holiday. Or my copy has a sun on it for Bucket 10 Celestial Body

message 215: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I didn’t finish Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine in time for Bucket 5 (and it doesn’t fit for Bucket 6). But I can have it finished in time for Bucket 7’s “Quirky Holiday” prompt — July 11 is Cheer Up the Lonely Day

message 216: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I finished The Stone Sky and added it in for the published in the summer (August) slot.

message 217: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments We still have 3 questions. Some ideas that were suggested:

“Did he die before/after (insert date here)?”
“Was he know for writing (insert genre here [fiction/children/poetry/thriller])?”
“Did he win (insert literary prize here)?”

Should we see if he has a book in the 1001 books to read before you die (or another list) to see if we can find a list to go through?

message 218: by Marta (last edited Jun 09, 2019 10:06PM) (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments I have finished Foundation and Empire - 47 pages today.
Also did Synonyms and Antonyms

message 219: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I read 140 page today, and completed the Synonyms and Antonyms game. Hoping to finish off Empire of Storms early tomorrow and squeeze in something else afterwards.

CM Perri wrote: "Candie wrote: "I finished The River by Peter Heller and it can be a book related to nature."

This was the first Peter Heller book that I have ever read and I really liked his writing style and I am a nature lover so I really enjoyed this book.

Thanks Candie, also a nature lover and know I like his style. Entered the give-away :)

message 222: by Jennifer (last edited Jun 10, 2019 06:56AM) (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I finished Cursed: The Complete Series for another 400 pages.

Not sure if it would fit the purple cover, but there is some purple on it.

message 223: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I have complete the favorite things game

I think we should go with a genre question myself.

message 224: by Khristina (new)

Khristina (readingreckless) | 33 comments I'm reading Eligible by Curtis Setterfield. It will work for the red cover.

message 225: by AnnaNeverLands (new)

AnnaNeverLands | 15 comments I just read the las 250 pages of A Court of Wings and Ruin and it can count towards the page count and book with a green cover

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) If we still need a second quirky holiday book when we get to that bucket I can read Gone Rogue for space exploration day. I also found a couple of short-but-still-over-100-page books from page 6 of my TBR in case we need a back up there. (Submerged and Beloved: A Fairy Tale Retelling of Northanger Abbey in case I forget later...)

We might need a back up for 'book with a green cover though' because I'm not reading Wives and Daughters nearly as fast as we're tearing through buckets.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Quick reminder that if you *finish* a book it can only count toward the current bucket we're on. :-)

I think we have three questions still to ask, which is probably where we're falling behind the other team--on actually using the questions we have.

I like the idea of the 1001 books list question, narrowing down language and/or country, and narrowing down which letter his name might start with. I'm also fine with the genre question if a couple other people want that one, I'm just not sure how much it helps if the answer is 'classics' or something like that.

message 228: by CM (new)

CM I think the list question is a good idea.

message 229: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Jun 10, 2019 08:17AM) (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Yes, Raquel is right. Be sure to still added finished books to the page count but if you did not discover the book during the read-a-thon then we are still on bucket 6.

We're definitely not behind the teams as far as reading but we need to get on the author :)

Are the above questions officially being asked? They need to be more specific (i.e. which genre, award, name range, etc.)

message 230: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments Hi team!
I like the idea of the 1001 books list too

message 231: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments Or
Does the author's Sur ame begin with letter A-F?

message 232: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I agree ask both questions we have them so we should use them

message 233: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Sounds good to me as far as the questions

message 234: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Debra is working on book discovered.

message 235: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Are you officially asking both questions that Vanessa posted?

message 236: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I say yes

message 237: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I have about 80 pages left of my book for discovered during readathon

message 238: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I would say yes but not sure if the team is for it I know both question have been posted or asked about before

message 239: by Katie (last edited Jun 10, 2019 09:00AM) (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Does the author have a book on the 1001 books list? YES

Does the author's surname begin with letters A-F? YES

message 240: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I also vote yes.

Thanks Debra for managing the discovered prompt!

message 241: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I can cover quirky holiday for Interview with the Vampire - I have about 20 pages to finish after work tonight. It can be "Frankenstein Day" or "Son and Daughter Day".

I also atarted Things Fall Apart, with an orange cover.

message 242: by CM (last edited Jun 10, 2019 11:30AM) (new)

CM I have it narrowed to 30 I think that meet the criteria.

Updated:

Amis, Kingsley

Becker, Jurek
Beckett, Samuel
Berger, John

Blanchot, Maurice
Böll, Heinrich
Borowski, Tadeusz
Calvino, Italo

message 243: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments Narrow down the first or last name would work I believe! And once we finish the "discovered during the readathon", I only have the last chapter of Eleanor Oliphant to finish for the quirk holiday slot

message 244: by CM (new)

CM Got it down to 30 I think. It is a bit hard to tell if they wrote more than 10 books or what counts as a book.

Hope I didn't miss any!!!

message 245: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I think we should narrow down the first name. Maybe A-f first

message 246: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I have finished Final Girls by Riley Sager which covers the book discovered during read a thon 342 pages

message 247: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) What about Douglas Adams? He fits all the requirements too

message 248: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Jun 10, 2019 10:48AM) (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I'm going to go ahead and push through the first name question since it's been mentioned by more than one member.

Ballard, J.G.
Barnes, Julian
Bassani, Giorgio
Becker, Jurek
Beckett, Samuel
Berger, John
Bernhard, Thomas

Claus, Hugo
de Chirico, Giorgio
Delibes, Miguel
Durrell, Lawrence
Dürrenmatt, Friedrich
Eco, Umberto
Fleming, Ian
Fowles, John
Frisch, Max

message 249: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments I am completely overwhelmed by the entire author game. Sorry, team.

I feel like we'd have to ask something like, "Did he ever own a cat named Bambino?" [answer: Mark Twain] in order to narrow this down at all. Ha!

message 250: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Devin wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "What about Douglas Adams? He fits all the requirements too"

You are right. Must have read the birthdate wrong, lol
