Vanessa | 282 comments I have Clementine on my TBR, I'm starting to read for "A book related to a NASA mission name"

message 502: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Finished Number the Stars for the recommended prompt

message 503: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 456 comments I finished The Whisper Man by Alex North. It will help with the page count but not with
- A book another member of this group recommended to you
- A book that takes place in the summer.

CM Kathy Jo wrote: "Finished Number the Stars for the recommended prompt"

Good because I didn't quite finish it last night, we have family staying with us. I will save the ending now for the book from a country you haven't been to prompt.

message 505: by CM (new)

CM We should probably start the questions off with the easy obvious ones before we have no idea what to do :)

Are they female?

Katie | 2360 comments Based on discussions in the groups, we've decided to just do 2 authors and give you a break from that portion of the challenge. You can spend the rest of the read-a-thon working on the buckets. Happy reading.

I like that!! Although it was fun, a break to read more is much better :)

O my. That's pretty funny!

message 509: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Finished The Beast. 328 pg added

message 510: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Hi team! I am currently almost finished with Mrs Dalloway, only have 10 pages left. Do we still need a book set in summer? From the spreadsheet it looks like we do, but I am not sure? If yes, I will finish it now. If no, I will save those last pages for a book with heart on the cover (my edition has lots of hearts on it).

I am currently enjoying the sun in Florence and have a nice, cool Aperol Spritz in my hand - bliss 🤩. Arrived yesterday, and we went to Firenze Rocks and saw Smashing Pumpkins and Tool - it was fab!

Enjoy your weekend, everyone:)

message 511: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments Hi Hilde, I think that we still need a book set in summer. Andrea mentioned that her book don't count for the task and about the Holly's book i don't know if set in summer

message 512: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Cool, thanks Vanessa! Then we count it towards the summer prompt, just finished it. It was quite tedious.

I think we are ready to move to bucket 15!!

message 513: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I have been holding off reading the epilogue for my romance book. I will do that as soon as I get home (maybe 4 hours?)

message 514: by [deleted user] (new)

As we are now on bucket 15 I’ve just read the last chapter of The Westing Game which fits for plot twist task.

message 515: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I should finish The Silent Patient today but it was a convenient one since it also counts for plot twist. I’ll update the spreadsheet when I get home :)

message 516: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 456 comments I am startingThe Milk Lady of Bangalore: An Unexpected Adventure by Shoba Narayan. Perhaps I can finish it in time to fulfill one of these bucket tasks.

- A book set in country you've never been to
- A book involving an animal/with animal on cover
- A book by an author of color
- A book with more than 20 letters in title

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I should finish The Astonishing Color of After this afternoon. For those who've read it, would you say enough of it takes place in Taiwan to count that for country I've never been to? It feels about 50/50 to me between Taiwan and the US, but it's hard for me to judge for sure with an audio book.

If we would count it for that, I'll make sure I hold off on the last chapter until we finish the romantic element prompt for this bucket.

message 518: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments I'm reading Back to the Bedroom and my edition has tiny hearts on the cover. Don't know if that counts for the one about hearts...I can hold the last chapter til we hit there if it does.

message 519: by Khristina (new)

Khristina (readingreckless) | 33 comments I'm working on bucket 16, the country one. I don't think I'm going to finish it tonight.

message 520: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I finished The Heiress for Romance (shocker- they lived happily ever after!)

message 521: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
That brings us to Bucket 16! Now we're focusing on:

- A book with a heart on the cover/in title
- 2 books set in countries you've never been to

message 522: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad finished Silent as the Grave just counts for page count 234 pages

message 523: by Marta (new)

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments I have been working on longer books so I was not contributing to the buckets much, but I have been adding my page counts and games to the spreadsheet. I am currently working on Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed, and I am enjoying it (also recommend it). But I doubt I will be done with it before Sunday. It is an easy read but it is 412 pages. I am also listening to My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor.

message 524: by CM (new)

CM I finished Number the Stars for a book set in a country I've never been.

message 525: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments I'm almost done with Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo . It's a crow's wing, if you think that's enough animal I'll hold off on finishing it. Or, since it's fantasy it's not a country any of us have visited :)

message 526: by Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) (last edited Jun 14, 2019 04:56PM) (new)

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I finished The Astonishing Color of After, and if you all are okay with counting it, we can use it for 'country I've never been to.

Edited to add: Or, if I missed one that finishes off that bucket, we can use the bird for 'animal on the cover' maybe

message 527: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (last edited Jun 14, 2019 05:00PM) (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I think we can count The Astonishing Color of After, the description makes it sound like it's pretty focused on Taiwan.

I also think we're fine to count Six of Crows. If you enlarge the cover, you can actually see the whole head. So pretty clear to me :)

That means we're now on Bucket 17 and need 2 books by authors of color

message 528: by Khristina (new)

Khristina (readingreckless) | 33 comments I just finished Warcross by Marie Lu. Counts for authors of color.

message 529: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments Bucket 17 is done! I finished A River of Stars just now.

message 530: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
On to Bucket 18!!

- A book with more than 20 letters in title
- A graphic novel/book with illustrations

It's a really close game and we're actually way ahead in pages. We can still pull ahead, bumblebees!

message 531: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Germain | 25 comments I am almost finished a book with exactly 20 letters in the title... will this work?

message 532: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I interpreted the prompt that it could include 20. Unless someone argues with it then I say we go for it!

message 533: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I'm almost finished with The Silent Patient. I'm confident with counting it towards the NASA prompt (Psyche mission) since it's set in an inpatient psych unit and is all about therapy. I can hold off on the last page or so until we reach the next bucket.

message 534: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Germain | 25 comments Laura wrote: "I interpreted the prompt that it could include 20. Unless someone argues with it then I say we go for it!"

Cool, I will aim to finish it by tonight!

message 535: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I’m picking up a short graphic novel tomorrow anyway, but if you need something to read tonight go ahead!

message 536: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I finished Daisy Jones & The Six, and I'm 74 pages into On the Come Up. I also did today's Disney Book Tag.

message 537: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments I finished A Bride's Story, Vol. 4 (Manga)

message 538: by Jennifer (last edited Jun 14, 2019 10:19PM) (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I finished The American Presidents: From Washington to Clinton for the prompt 20 letters or more. It was 378 pages.

message 539: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Germain | 25 comments I finished my 20-letter title too, but looks like it's been covered already!

message 540: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Adding my book to the NASA spot now!

That means we just need A book related to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan in order to finish bucket 19.

message 541: by [deleted user] (new)

On phone so can’t link to book but I have finished

Ring by Koji Suzuki set in Japan

message 542: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
On the final bucket!

- Book published in the last three years (2017, 2018, 2019) that had a lot of buzz but that you didn't read
- Book with a synopsis that includes a question

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Good job everyone! I went to bed last night thinking it was too bad I wouldn't have a lot of reading time to finish any books today, but I think you all have it under control without me. :-)

Lori, is that as scary as the movie?! Not that I've watched the movie, but I've seen snippets of is :O

I am currently reading On the Come Up, which I should be able to finish today, so that should work for the book published in the last 3 years that had a lot of buzz.

message 546: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments I'm almost done with Back to the Bedroom. The description on GR ends with a ?? if that counts. I have 12 pgs

message 547: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Finished Back to the Bedroom. 234 pgs added. will add them to the spreadsheet when I get back to the computer

message 548: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I'm sure I'll be finishing off On the Come Up today, but probably not until just before I go to bed. If anyone else reads something else to fit the book published in the last 3 years sooner, it might make more sense to count that.

On the plus side, great book and I would highly recommend it so far!

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I also really liked it, Rachel! Maybe I went in with low expectations since so many people were comparing her to Star, but I loved the main character in this one. In some ways, I think she was fleshed out a little more.

message 550: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 47 comments I updated the spreadsheet. I did the disney and the emoji challenges. I got stuck on both of those. I also updated my pages.
