3 questions remaining

message 252: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments want to ask about when he died??

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Candie wrote: "I have it narrowed to 30 I think that meet the criteria.

Ambler, Eric
Amis, Kingsley
Andrzejewski, Jerzy
Ballard, J.G.
Becker, Jurek
Beckett, Samuel
Behan, Brendan
Berger, John
Bernhard, Thomas
B..."

I started to do this and got overwhelmed, so I am super impressed!

message 254: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) We have 3 questions left, maybe do one for name and one for date of death

message 255: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Or we can look into where he is from?

message 256: by CM (new)

CM Maybe be specific and hope it's right? Like does his surname start with an F?

message 257: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Or a certain number of letters in surname

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Candie wrote: "Maybe be specific and hope it's right? Like does his surname start with an F?"

If you go with 'does his surname start with B' that actually about splits the list in half.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) Devin wrote: "I think this is the breakdown on the dates of death:

Bulgakov, Mikhail (1940)

Borowski, Tadeusz (1951)

Fleming, Ian (1964)

Andrzejewski, Jerzy (1983)
Böll, Heinrich (1985)
Beckett, Samuel (198..."

So, 'did he die before the year 2000?' would be a good way to narrow it down, I think?

message 260: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I like the question does the surname begin with B

message 261: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments According to Google Mikhail Bulgakov and Giorgio de Chirico born before 1900, and Julian Barnes is alive :)

message 262: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Those two questions sound good to me

message 263: by CM (new)

CM Those questions sound good to me

message 264: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments go for it!

message 265: by CM (new)

CM I'm feeling Kingsley Amis or Ian Fleming. Just guessing for fun.

message 266: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments I'll go with Samuel Beckett or Umberto Eco. I'm embarrassed at how many names I don't recognize :P

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I think we have enough of a consensus to make these questions official:

Does his last name start with B?

Did he die before the year 2000?

message 268: by CM (new)

CM Perri wrote: "I'll go with Samuel Beckett or Umberto Eco. I'm embarrassed at how many names I don't recognize :P"

I know! I was thinking the same thing.

Does his last name start with B? No

Did he die before the year 2000? No

message 270: by CM (last edited Jun 10, 2019 11:57AM) (new)

CM Down to four!

Fowles, John (2005)
Claus, Hugo (2008)
Delibes, Miguel (2010)
Eco, Umberto (2016)

Holly | 58 comments I got lost. What bucket are we on??

message 272: by [deleted user] (new)

Anand, Mulk Raj (2004)

Could you describe a man who was born, died and lived most of his life in India and was also involved in the Indian independence movement as European?

message 273: by CM (new)

CM I don't think so. I removed him because of that but I can add him back in if you think.

message 274: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments I finished eleanor oliphant is completely fine (on my phone so cant link)

message 275: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 215 comments it's a quirky holiday book (July 11 is cheer up the lonely day)

message 276: by [deleted user] (new)

Candie wrote: "I don't think so. I removed him because of that but I can add him back in if you think."

I think you were right to remove him.

My guess is that it is either John Fowles or Umberto Eco as they are more well known. Let's go with death date before 2010 as a question.

message 277: by CM (new)

CM I'm fine with making a guess of Umberto Eco or asking another question. I think you can guess the person wrong four times so either way we can get this!

message 278: by Debra (new)

Debra Barstad I was thinking of doing Baby dear by Linda Huber for the blue cover

message 279: by [deleted user] (new)

Let's guess Umberto Eco.

Haha! Good guess! I think there is a good chance of it being either him or John Fowles. They both have multiple books on the list

Can I get confirmation that Umberto Eco is an official team guess?

CONGRATS, TEAM!!

We (you) guessed the author correctly!

Since all teams have correct guesses for one author, it is now a race to see who can finish all buckets first :)

message 285: by CM (new)

CM Yeah!!

message 286: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Finished The Mister. Add 498 pgs

STING! Good job bees

Yay! We guessed the author.

Would this book work for quirky summer holiday?

Campfire Day (1st Saturday in August) - Smoke Rising read today.

Or Disobediance Day (3rd July) - John Smoke frequently disobeys his partner Sidney Shaw.

Edit: I've just seen that Interview with a Vampire was being read for Frankenstein Day. My book has a werewolf and zombies.

message 289: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Wow, so much activity today - excellent work with guessing the author!! I just bought ‘The name of the rose’ at a flea market; good timing with him being our author and the new TV series out :)

I got in some good hours of audio on my flight today, will update the spreadsheet and do some of the games tomorrow when I have my computer back. Not a good weekend for a RAT for me, but you all are rocking it! 👏🏻

message 290: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently reading Ring (Ring, #1) by Kōji Suzuki for orange cover.

We only need one more quirky holiday book before we finish up this bucket and can move on to the one with the rainbow.

So if you're reading one of the books for the cover color, be sure to wait to finish until after we get to that bucket!

message 292: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 282 comments The book read for Lori (Smoke Rising) don't count?

message 293: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments We'll also assign you a second author to work on as you continue to work toward completing your buckets.

message 294: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Interview with the Vampire finished for quirky holiday!

We're now finished with bucket 7 and earned a question towards the new author :)

message 297: by Debra (last edited Jun 10, 2019 05:08PM) (new)

Debra Barstad I can read Disenchanted (The Celtic Vampyre Saga, #1) by C.K. Farrell for the orange cover book

sorry I did not see Lori's post for the orange cover so I will back out

message 298: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments My current book is blue cover. What colors do we need?
