Read-a-Thon #2 - Team Bumblebee
dalex wrote: "Ok, then let's move on to the next question - "Does she write her books in a language other than English?""I did ask the question. We're just waiting on an answer. :)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...This page might help. It lists women writers and their birth years and kind of tells where they are from.
I'm good with the name. if we are wanting to ask about another prize, we could ask if she was ever shortlisted/won the Booker Prize
I went through all of the list of women writers on wikipedia from A - M and there aren't actually that many that meet all of the requirements. The born after 1970, first name A-F and European.Alice Albinia
Cindy Lynn Brown
Colette Bryce
Elaine Eksvärd
Alessia Gazzola
Charley Genever
Agnieszka Graff
Anna Gutto
Afua Hirsch
Dorta Jagić
Aby King
Faith Martin
Eva Menasse
Alison Moore
Maybe we should ask a surname starting with M? That would narrow it down a lot. If she is even on this list but the page seemed to be a pretty exhaustive list.
Diana Evans, Audrey Magee, Eimear McBride, and Charlotte Mendelson were all nominated for the Women's Prize so they can be eliminated.
Devin wrote: "We could ask if she’s on the list you narrowed it down to."Yeah I guess it might be good to see if she is even on this list first. Although narrowing it down to a smaller surname range would help either way.
Just off the top of my head I can think of one author who fits all the questions who is not on Candie's list from wikipedia - Daisy Johnson.Female: Yes
Born after 1970: Yes (1990)
European: Yes
Country A-M: Yes (England)
First name A-M: Yes
Perri's list: No
Women's Prize: No
GR Award: No
Translated: No
There have to be oodles more that aren't on that wikipedia list!
Maybe we need to ask if she's published more than 5 or 10 books or something? That would give us an idea if she's well known or more obscure.
Daisy Johnson is actually who I was thinking of -- she was nominated for the Booker Prize last year which is why I was thinking of using that as a question :)
Candie wrote: "I went through all of the list of women writers on wikipedia from A - M and there aren't actually that many that meet all of the requirements. The born after 1970, first name A-F and European.Ali..."
That's the list I used, and so some of those are noes ? is that a word? but looks like I missed some.
Perri wrote: "Candie wrote: "I went through all of the list of women writers on wikipedia from A - M and there aren't actually that many that meet all of the requirements. The born after 1970, first name A-F and..."Oh yeah, looking at it almost all of them are on there.
Another one missing from the wikipedia list that I just randomly thought of....Cecelia Ahern. Born 1981, Irish, not on Perri's list, not a Women's Prize nom, not (I don't think) a GR Award. We need a new strategy, bumbles! :)
Hello Team!I finished "The slow regard of silent things" by Patrick Rothfuss, also I saw that the book finished by Rachel (message 486) have the Word "Things"....
Yes, the problem with the wikipedia list is that it's a list of what they term notable writers. There are popular authors who even have a wikipedia page, such as Rainbow Rowell that are not on there. She wouldn't count anyway but who knows how many popular European authors who write in English aren't on there.
All I can think of at the moment is trying to narrow down the name or asking a genre question.
Do you want to submit Daisy Johnson as an official question or ask one of the others mentioned? (Name, country, etc)
I’m on my phone so I can’t see if there is a question available.

I've completed the halfway questions and sort you shelf game
How about these for questions:
Does the author's surname begin with a letter A-F?
Does the author mainly write romance novels? or we could choose mystery and thrillers or YA as genres
Is the author from England?

I think all of those are good!
I wasn't sure what genre you were looking for so I'm going to answer the other two.
Does the author's surname begin with a letter A-F? No
Is the author from England? Yes

Sure, give it a try!Can someone update me on where we are with the buckets? I am 99% done with The Heiress. It fits for romance, but I don't think we are there yet. Do we know what books are being read for the same word prompt?
I stayed up way too late reading last night, but Jude Deveraux is one of my favorite authors. It is complete mindless fluff, and you know how it is going to end before you even start the book, but I laughed, I cried...

According to the spreadsheet we need a book that takes place in summer and a book recommended by a group member for the bucket we're on. (Neither completed yet.)
Last night I read Kristy's Big Day, which was set in the summer. I'm not sure if we were on that bucket yet by then.
I must say it was very difficult to see her mentioned and then to just twiddle my thumbs. I tried to low-key lean the convo towards her without giving it away 😂
Sort of a relief! Is anyone reading a rec by other members? Also, with all this excitement, don't forget like I almost did, about the second 2020 book poll

Lots of these seem unlikely because they are small or don’t have tons of well-known writers translated into English.
