Review: Typical type of rom-com. Good looking guy with commitment issues, girl self-conscious of self. While some of the self-conscious issues Alexa had were based on the difference in race between herself and Drew overall it they were the same issues most woman can go through. Both are accomplished professionals, but live a distance apart. Although I found it a little funny that LA to Bay Area was thought of as clear across the state/or opposite sides of the state. Sure, its over 300 miles, but that is only half the state.

I will completely switch up my selection posts but I am planning to bring books that work for fantasy and suspense on my upcoming road trip, where I will have reliable internet access and time to read.

Review: Decent story, although it lacked a bit of suspense as "who did it" wasn't really a question for the majority of the story. To be honest, having finished reading it, I feel like the author did a great job creating suspense for what was honestly not a big reveal at all in the end (because I kept reading and really wanted to know how it ended even though I knew there wasn't going to be a big twist).

Review: I jumped into the middle of this series because I need a #7 for a different challenge. Curious to explore the others in the series. This had some heavy subject matter in it compared to typical cozy mysteries. There is also clearly a mystery thread through the series related to the MC. So I would want to go back and fill in those gaps so I don't spoil myself too much on that mystery.

To clarify, we can't win, even if we have a row completed, unless every call has been read for.

Review: I really enjoyed rereading this as an audiobook. It was a lot of fun, and I loved reminding myself of John Green's writing and how pure and engulfing it was. Reading it on audio also helped bring out the humor.

Review: I am reading this for my fanfiction, so technically it will still say "currently reading" on my Goodreads profile until I finish writing this part of my story, but I finished my first readthrough (reread) today. There's a lot that I remember that I really love about this book and the series as a whole. At first, I thought I wouldn't include a lot of it in my original character Harry Potter crossover, but after reading the book I decided there's a lot of parts where my characters should fit, even though it will be somewhat tedious to write. I love my series and writing fanfiction.

Review: This had some humorous parts and was a quick read. A splash of romance and mystery rolled into one. Pugg was the funniest creepiest yet most enduring character all rolled into one. Cate thought she had the perfect setup for a roommate, someone rarely home, she paid minimal for a room and was only expected to watch the apartment, water the plants and get the mail while the owner was out. Too good to be true?

Review: Parts of the book were clearly funny (I LOVED the first chapter - this is the first author I've ever read to share my encyclopedic knowledge of obscure Disney cartoons!) but others were extremely depressing. The way men in our country behave when a woman speaks out about misogyny is not lost on me, but it is still incredibly upsetting to see such horrible examples as those in this book. I will certainly never be watching anything with Daniel Tosh in it EVER, I can tell you! My husband and I felt physically sick after reading some of the things he has said about raping women that he thinks are funny. I wish I had half the strength that this author has to speak out about issues that affect all women.

Review: Rereading the novel, the biggest thing that stands out to me is still the complete humanity found in the story and the characters. Rho, Hysan, Nishi, Mathias, Deke, and Stanton are still very real people with real emotions. They make mistakes that are absolutely human, and they fight with feelings the way everyone does.

Review: I liked the concept of a "lifetime dog." The one dog that comes into your life and is like your animal soulmate and Orson was Jon's lifetime dog. I had a lifetime cat for 14 years and this book made me nostalgic for her. Makes me want to work on obedience training with my current dog to see if I can deepen our relationship some more. I look forward to reading more of his books about dogs and trying some of his techniques on mine.

Review: I love everything I have read by Liane Moriarty and this book is no exception. This represents a bit of a departure for the author because it wasn't purely a dramatic/suspense novel; it was actually pretty funny. Every chapter about the author character, Frances, had me in stitches (and also had me wondering how autobiographical the character was)! This has replaced "Big Little Lies" as my favorite Liane Moriarty novel, and that is really saying something!

Review: It's hard to describe what this book is about without spoiling too much, but it sends such an important message about sexual assault and violence. I enjoyed but didn't like one of the MC, Jack. He was a douchebag and I did not enjoy him. There's a romance between him and Alex that I did not buy at all. I did love the friendship between Alex and Peekay, and the elusiveness of Alex.

Review: This is a humble beginnings turned hero story, and I really liked it! The book is heavily based on Greek mythology, which I don't know too much about, so it was fun to read and learn. It's action packed with plenty of nail-biting/drama scenes that keep you hooked. I like Percy as a MC and his posse, Annabeth and Grover. I can't wait to read the next adventure!

Review: The first short story, Elevation, is about a man who is rapidly losing weight, but looks the same. His new neighbors, a lesbian couple, are outcasted by the neighborhood. He tries to fall in their good graces and help them become accepted. The second short story, Laurie, is about a man who reluctantly adopts a dog while grieving his wife. At first, he hates the idea, but eventually the dog grows on him. It's a quick read, but not worth the time. Boring.
