I actually preferred the winner that year, Lincoln in the Bardo.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Thanks to Transit Lounge Publishing and BRPreview, I got to read The Time is Now, Monica Sparrow by Aussie author, Matt Howard. I loved it and I'm sad that the library only has one other book by this talented author. The book whisperer will be on the lookout for them.
This one is out March 1st.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Bond. James Bond. Need I say more? Good prequel to the famous Ian Fleming spy series.

At the request of the Fleming estate, Horowitz wrote Forever and a Day to introduce us to 007 and the woman who explains why she orders martinis "shaken, not stirred."
Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz A solid 4★. Link to my review

Carolyn | 9836 comments 99 Nights in Logar by Jamil Jan Kochai 99 Nights in Logar by Jamil Jan Kochai is an interesting book set in contemporary Afghanistan, describing the visit of a 12 y old boy and his family who emigrated to the US and are returning to home for the first time in 6 years.

Unfortunately, it was marred for me due to poor formatting and to badly needing a glossary for the Afghani words used throughout the text. 3.5★

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments I always look forward to Mick Herron's books and I thought Reconstruction was a stand-alone, so I was delighted to find several characters from his Jackson Lamb series featuring in it. It could almost be a prequel...
Not quite as funny as the series, but still excellent British spy fiction, so 5★s from me
