2019 Bookshelf Rereads
It's time to vote for our October-December rereads! Voting is OPEN until August 25th.VOTE HERE
FYI, these are the two books on the form that already have upcoming buddy reads scheduled:
August 20: A Closed and Common Orbit
October 10: Too Like the Lightning
For those who want to look at every book more closely, here are all the books currently up for rereads, in the same (alphabetical) order:(view spoiler)
I’ll update after the newsletter goes out on the first, because that’ll bring in lots of votes and change everything!
Beth wrote: "One of my things won this quarter, so I've supported Melanie's cause and voted for Zoo City!"If the book does not win, we should all have a BR.
I voted for about 6 of them - mostly ones I haven't read that are in my TBR. And I refrained from voting for Zoo City because my choices never winn
A Closed and Common Orbit is in the lead right now, and it already has an upcoming buddy read starting on August 20th.
I’ll have to go over the list again, but I did vote for Swords and Deviltry which is on my TBR pile.
Top 6 will become our rereads for October-December. Voting closes on August 25th.VOTE HERE

I’ve finally put my votes in, using my usual tactic of voting for all the standalones I haven’t read yet. Melanie, that includes Zoo City. :) At the moment, that has it in the top 6.I’d also like to point out that A Night in the Lonesome October would surely be an appropriate selection for October. My first and only experience with Zelazny wasn’t a good one, but I intend to try this one sooner or later. If it won the vote, I’d try it sooner.
I've said it before, but I loved reading A Night in the Lonesome October in October, one day at a time. It's set up like that, one chapter per day. It was one of the most fun buddy reads I've ever done!

Beth wrote: "I love it, too... and am easily influenced, so I'll add it to my vote!":) Joining the gang as well!

And now having said that, it (A Night in the Lonsome October) is going to be the one book I buy and plan to read with the group if it gets voted into the schedule!!I mean, until we have exhausted my stock of already owned books, I’ll stick to them for this challenge for the most part. I’ll make an exception for this book because I clearly need to read something by Zelazny (can’t believe I haven’t) and this book sounds really fun!
Ok, I really want to read City of Bones this year, and it's now on Anna's list. Martha Wells! And a standalone! Help me out here?
Kaa wrote: "Ok, I really want to read City of Bones this year, and it's now on Anna's list. Martha Wells! And a standalone! Help me out here?"City of Bones has 10 votes now.
Any others as interested in reading more China Miéville as I am? I loved Perdido Street Station, and Embassytown is just scraping the top 6...
Ooh, good call. I need to go check my votes. Not sure if that's in there or not.edit: drat, it's there already. No extra vote from here... aha! But I can clear away a vote from another 10 at least.
All right, my darling droogs, I have added two more books to the things I voted for! You're all quite compelling. ;-)

Anthony wrote: "Thanks! Why did you clear it from your votes in the first place?"To give one vote more of a chance to Embassytown (not the death blow, but one bar off the opponent's health) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm fine with which ever (of these I'm voting for?) makes it through.
Embassytown is a book that stuck in my head for a long, long time. I still reference it, ironically in metaphor, which will make sense once you read it!
Oh I need to get on a computer so I can join in the voting!I’ve recently read Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis and don’t care to read them again, but if anyone really want my vote for it I take bribes ;-)
In all seriousness, I think I’ll support Embassytown, since Perdido Street Station impressed me so. Maybe I’ll be a fan of Mieville after all!
Embassytown is one of the books I keep voting for every time we do this. It’s been close a few times, so hopefully this time it will make it.It’s the only Miéville on our group shelf that I haven’t read yet. I’ve read four of his books and I always have mixed feelings about them, but they’re usually interesting at least.
Here's a good example that it pays to ask people for help! Both of these upcoming rereads were completely out of the running, until someone asked for people to vote for them!August 15th:
Sabriel >> First impressions | Final thoughts
Kushiel's Dart >> First impressions | Final thoughts
if I've voted for it, it won't win given my past experience: The Blade Itself and City of Bones will likely plummet at the last minute
