Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Voting is CLOSED
VOTE HERE

For the past few years we've gone through a process of voting for and scheduling past reads from the group bookshelf and reading them as a side group. This is intended to work in conjunction with the group Read All the Books! challenge. It is not necessary to join the challenge to participate in this process.

Starting in 2019 we'll be voting and scheduling for three months at a time. We will be scheduling two reads per month based on member votes.

1. Voting will take place in
-> November for January-March
-> February for April-June
-> May for July-September
-> August for October-December
2. Schedule will be posted by the end of the voting month
3. Books that have been read by the group (main or reread) in the 24 months prior to the scheduled period will not be eligible, and will not be listed on the form

The only thing you'll need is a gmail login. You'll be able to change and update your votes at any point during the voting process. Books will be listed as title, author, page count.

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments It's time to vote for 2019 rereads! :O You have until November 25th.

VOTE HERE

message 4: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments What a wonderful list, there are so many of these on my tbr list, how can I possibly choose 😱

message 5: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments No need to choose, vote for all the ones you would read if they were rereads!

message 6: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Ah, I wasn’t sure you could cast more than one vote, but I guess the box shape for ticking should have tipped me off! Brilliant!

message 7: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments It’s not a requirement that *I* have read them before, is it?

message 8: by Anna (last edited Oct 25, 2018 11:54PM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Of course not! We're voting for what we want to read January to March as group rereads. I always select all the books I haven't read and am interested in reading someday. (Except if that someday isn't during Jan-Mar, for example if I'm waiting for a series to finish.)

message 9: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Thanks, just making sure I understand the rules XD I better wait until I’m home by my computer so I don’t have to switch back and forth between my tbr list and the poll on my phone.

message 10: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Well you do have a month, so no hurry! :D

message 11: by Mareike (new)

Mareike | 1457 comments That list was fun to go through!

message 12: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1478 comments I found a few titles that are upcoming buddy reads in the November and December so their threads will be active. I wasn’t sure whether I should vote for them or not...

message 13: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments It's up to you! It depends on whether you want to add to your reading load, or try to keep it smaller :D

message 14: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Although (not as a mod, but as a reader voting for these) I try to only vote for those I would actually read during the time period we're voting for. It doesn't always happen, especially before, when we voted up to nine months in advance. But I'm trying to make sure I don't vote for something I have no intention of reading or that I've already read. I always want to vote for all the UKLG, but I don't, because I've already read them, and wouldn't reread them at this time.

But it's really up to everyone voting what they want to base their vote on.

message 15: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments I wouldn’t personally vote for those that I’m already joining scheduled BRs for, seems a bit redundant I guess.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments If you answer the form question, it's pretty easy :)

"Which of the following books do you intend to read in the first quarter of 2019?"

So not which books do you think everyone should read, but which are you planning on reading, should they be chosen for a reread.

(and cross check that BR list)

message 19: by Tomas (new)

Tomas Grizzly | 448 comments Yeah, I vote for what I'd like to read so the number of votes in my case is quite low - I believe I picked like 5 this time.

I hope you'll remember it! :D

message 21: by YouKneeK (new)

YouKneeK | 1412 comments My vote is in. I used my usual tactic of voting only for standalone books that I haven’t yet read. Those are easy for me to randomly slip into my reading schedule without upsetting my own plans.

I try to vote for the books I own that I need the extra motivation to pick up.

The Time Machine is the shortest book we've read, so tell your friend he's saddled with Wells if he wants a "quick" read.

Or she. Or, you know, whoever.

message 25: by Trike (new)

message 27: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Just seven books down the list and all I'm doing is add more books to my TBR list because I clearly need to read ALL of them. Goddammit, books, wy u so irresistible!

message 28: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
I admit I'm having a good time watching my feed just grow with "Dawn added X to her tbr!" You can't *look* at the books, that's how they get ya! ^^

message 29: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Lol sorry for spamming everyone’s feed, seems you can’t quietly and unobtrusively add books anywhere 😅

message 30: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (last edited Oct 26, 2018 10:52AM) (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
No no! Don't be sorry, I love seeing who's been caught ^^

I am trying to trick my TBR by not adding things I know for sure I'm about to read. But it's still growing, confound it.

But I also voted for the things I want someone to encourage me to read.

message 31: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Voted and narrowed it down to things I want to read but haven't already scheduled, and actually own/available on Storytel.

Mostly.

*shifty eyes*

This list was also convenient for catching some books I had missed marking as on the group shelf, and one accidentally marked as read.

Saaame - half gets added to TBR, the other half directly to Google Library 🙄'

Dawn wrote: "Lol sorry for spamming everyone’s feed, seems you can’t quietly and unobtrusively add books anywhere 😅"

Actually tried to check today, if it was possible, when doing some own additions. Oh, well.

Yeah, I've done it like that, too. It's an ultimately fleeting attempt at stopping myself from adding things to the tbr pile....

message 34: by Bobby (new)

Bobby | 869 comments I started to freak out about how many I was voting for until i realized that there will only be 6 books actually selected.

I was looking for Consider Phlebas, and it is not in the C's. Did it get read recently, or maybe overlooked?

It’s one of the re-reads scheduled for this December, actually.

Yeah, sorry...it's the only way we could fit this many books on a poll, and don't even get Anna started on what this kind of poll does to the results page...

I'd categorize it as an emphatic lament.

message 40: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments Voted six that I already owned. I seem to remember last year I voted more books....

Dawn wrote: "Lol sorry for spamming everyone’s feed, seems you can’t quietly and unobtrusively add books anywhere 😅"

Yes you can actually, just go to 'feed setting' and click which update you'd like your friends and followers to see.

message 41: by YouKneeK (new)

YouKneeK | 1412 comments Allison wrote: "and don't even get Anna started on what this kind of poll does to the results page..."

Yeah, that results page, if it’s the same one we voters see, is pretty nuts. And yet I still take the time at least once a day to mouse over the tiny squares to see which books are winning. :)

It’s very early yet, but none of my votes are in the top 6 so far and I’ve already read 5 out of the 6. My first vote is currently the 15th down. I think it gets a little harder each year as I get more books from our shelf read myself, since the more well-known books/authors are the ones people are most likely to vote for.

message 42: by YouKneeK (new)

YouKneeK | 1412 comments I’m not sure if these thoughts will help any of the people who aren’t comfortable logging into the voting document, but I created a random gmail account a few years ago that I use at sites where I’m not comfortable giving out my main e-mail address. That includes not just this voting document, but Goodreads itself since Goodreads has had so many e-mail privacy issues. My extra gmail account is set to auto-forward all e-mails to my main e-mail address, so I still get my Goodreads notifications without having to check separate e-mail accounts.

message 43: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I have an automatically updating spreadsheet set up to sort out the results so I can actually see the titles. I'll start posting them here in a few days. It's only been a day, so it's not likely these are the final results.

message 44: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments I'm quite happy with the results so far ;) - 7 out of the 8 tops are ones I voted for. It can stay like this as far as I'm concerned ;-) .

There is some off-site place that pbt uses for voting, but I am not sure how many options you can use. https://www.surveymonkey.com/

I think that was also used by one of the swim teams my kids were on back when they swam.

Sure, I've done that, but there is still the work involved, etc, because you have to verify you are a real person by logging in, etc.

Jemppu | 1735 comments Anthony wrote: "Is there a way to easily see what’s now in the lead? When I click on the link to see the current results it’s so unclear."

Yup, this particular layout seems unfortunately ill-suited for the long titles. But if you hover your cursor over the bars the titles should pop up.

(except you're on a tablet, right? How does that work there, I wonder. Long tap on the bar seems to work on mobile - dang difficult though with all the zooming in and what not)
