Daily Read 2019 / Daily Read 2020 / Daily Read 2021 / Daily Read 2022

First impressions and any non-spoilery discussion about Lonesome October.

This book is best enjoyed one day at a time in October, so please join us for the 2019 daily read in the thread linked above!

Gabi | 3441 comments To not ruin the wonderful daily read thread you opened, I ask here: for folks doing the one chapter a day read we don't post here but in the daily read? Right or right?

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments Yes, in the daily read thread!

You can of course use this thread for general non-spoilery chatter, and the spoiler thread for after you've finished the book, as usual, but the daily read thread is for everyone reading one chapter per day in 2019.

Gabi | 3441 comments Terrific! I'm totally looking forward to this experience. Thanks so much for organizing it, Anna.

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments I'm really hoping everyone will find it as fun as I did! ^_^

Jemppu | 1735 comments Excited for this ^^

Jim (jimmaclachlan) This is definitely a book enjoyed slowly over the month. The obvious story is pretty good, but Zelazny hides a lot more behind a variety of allusions. Many of them are made obvious by the dedication in the front of the book. Others aren't as obvious & are fun to try to figure out.

DivaDiane SM | 3713 comments Cool! I’m joining in!!

Paul Perry (pezski) | 292 comments This is a Zelazny I'd not previously read, just picked it up as a 99p special on amazon uk

Meredith | 1816 comments Yay, finally got my copy! Going to read and catch up to today and then go read the daily-read thread.

So far, having read the prologue and October 1, I am utterly charmed by this.

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments Yay! You’ll catch up in no time!

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments Tor.com article about the book. Spoiler free section first, and then a spoilery part later, clearly marked.

https://www.tor.com/2021/09/30/a-nigh...

And if you just opened this thread like "What is this book?!", don't read anything more about it, read the book first! Today (or tomorrow) is the perfect day to start :)

Nicol | 527 comments Is a daily buddy read happening again?!?!?!?

Ellen | 937 comments Nicol wrote: "Is a daily buddy read happening again?!?!?!?"
I was wondering that too. Just got my copy out and ready

Meredith | 1816 comments Thanks for sharing the article Anna.

I wasn't planning to re-read again this year, but maybe I'll follow along the discussion. Then again... it's just one chapter a day.......

Jacqueline | 2428 comments I found my copy on the computer this morning so I can put it back on my iPad so I could read it again. My iPad dumped about 2000 books and when I try and put them back on they appear on there again and then suddenly disappear again. Stupid thing.

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments I wasn’t planning on it, but if people want to I can start a daily thread. If everyone is REreading then the spoiler thread is also an option.

message 18: by Mel (new) - added it

Mel | 509 comments I can't believe it's October already! I missed out the past couple years, but finally! I didn't forget, and have a copy.

I read October first. It's going to be a fun challenge to try to stick to one day at a time. If no one else is doing the daily read though, I can blind-post in the spoilers thread until I've finished.

Read the daily thread for each day from the past couple of years for some good insights. Just stop after the day you're on to avoid spoilers.

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments Melissa, you can read the daily discussions from 2019 and 2020 one day at a time if you stop when you see the next day's date. Of course there are more comments later on, but that way you'll know for sure you won't get spoilers. There's a bit at the beginning of both threads that is now spoilery, since we filled it out as we read, but it's in tags and I'll go add a note so you'll know!

message 21: by Anna (last edited Oct 01, 2021 06:24AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments OK I lied, I don't want to edit the messages, because I'll lose the href links.

In the 2019/2020 daily read threads, it's safe to open the "Chapters and pages" section in msg #2 but NOT SAFE to open the tags in msg #3. The 2019 thread has this section marked as spoilery, and that thread has the livier discussion, so follow along with that one!

2019 Chapters and pages has two links for each day, first one is the first comment for that day, and second one is Jim's notes. Beware that the notes were posted one day after, so there will be potential spoilers for the next day in the posts after the notes!

2020 Chapters and pages has the promised pages counts, if you want them :)

Anna (vegfic) | 10462 comments Now I'm trying to decide which thread you should post in if (when!) you have thoughts. Hmmmmm, is anyone else reading this now for the first time? I don't mind setting up a spoiler free daily read thread, if we have first time readers! I just won't be actively ... hmm, well doing anything active in it :D But yeah, no problem setting it up if it's needed!
