""It was a terrible, horrible fact, but the outcome was set in stone since the day I'd fallen into that open manhole."

I think this is an acknowledgement that isekai can be pretty absurd sometimes. I enjoyed the reunion in this chapter that also illuminated some of the story's main plot.

Hoping to finish this before the end of the year, after some unavoidable delays."

Allie Brosh
“But my experiences slowly flattened and blended together until it became obvious that there's a huge difference between not giving a fuck and not being able to give a fuck. Cognitively, you might know that different things are happening to you, but they don't feel different.”
Allie Brosh, Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened

Molly Ivins
“When politicians start talking about large groups of their fellow Americans as 'enemies,' it's time for a quiet stir of alertness. Polarizing people is a good way to win an election, and also a good way to wreck a country.”
Molly Ivins

Eileen Chang
“Between memory and reality there are awkward discrepancies...”
Eileen Chang

Leigh Bardugo
“She read paperbacks too, one after the next like she was chain-smoking—romance, science fiction, old pulp fantasy. All she wanted to do was sit, unbothered in a circle of lamplight, and live someone else’s life.”
Leigh Bardugo, Hell Bent

Sharon Olds
“There is something in me maybe someday
to be written; now it is folded, and folded,
and folded, like a note in school.”
Sharon Olds
