SandyL | 4747 comments OK, I'm kinda freaking out........ there was a spider on my desk and I tried to kill it. It ran under my laptop and disappeared! So now I'm wondering if it's inside my laptop somewhere? I keep looking for long, creepy legs to poke out between the keys! Eeekkkkk!

No plans. It’s been pouring down with rain today.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 1142 comments Hi all, so for being MIA but my laptop died and I am having to use my desk top which is not very convenient. I will go back later today and tomorrow to add characters and stuff to my books. I've got a lot that I didn't add because I thought that part was over.

I also added my two BRs to the read books thread.

message 763: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Friday night we hung out with my brother and his family. We played some mini golf and then went back to their house for games. Today we are heading out for a mini visit to my parents. Hoping to get some kayaking in this weekend.

Trying to make some progress on a few of these buddy reads!

message 764: by Heli (new)

Heli | 509 comments I updated my completion posts with letters for names.

There has been no interaction at all in the Scythe BR-thread after I posted there. So I guess it does not count for the points.

It's been unusually hot here in Finland for weeks now. Maybe later I'll go for a swim.

message 765: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Thanks Heli. And thanks for trying to get the BR points for Scythe!

Enjoy your swim and stay cool!

message 766: by Erika (new)

Erika Does it have to another team chatting to count for the buddy read points because I can chat about scythe if that will help?

I’m hoping to complete some of my buddy reads before the deadline and working on my arc too.

I’ve been a bouncy reader as of late but i’m enjoying it. :)

message 767: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Teammates don't count or I could also go back and chat. I'll check out the thread and see if there is anyone I can recognize to see if they'll come back and chat.

message 768: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi Erika - yes, it has to be someone from another team. 🙁

But thanks for offering! Hopefully Karly can start The Seven Rules of Elvira Carr right away.

I'll post more info tomorrow - it's been a long day (a friend of mine has 11 golden retriever puppies which I spent the day playing with!)

In the meantime, take a look at the tasks and also think about whether any of you would be interested/willing to play in the last quidditch match.

Also, our classes, spells and any Buddy Reads you're doing have to be completed by the 31st. @Erika - how is your ARC coming along?

message 779: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments I am leaving tomorrow for a 2 week vacation and will only have my kindle to read from - I am trying to plan accordingly

I took a look at the tasks and what I have scheduled to read for other challenges and found a task with 4 sub-tasks that fit. So I would like to suggest that we select Book 1-Sorcerer's Stone as one of our 3 books and I could do Task 4 - 4 books

Task 4 - Escape Devil’s Snare

Read a book with a predominately green cover - Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel (Scoundrels of St. James, #4) by Lorraine Heath
Read a book with “Devil” in the title - In Bed with the Devil (Scoundrels of St. James, #1) by Lorraine Heath
Read a book where the title starts with S - Surrender to the Devil (Scoundrels of St. James, #3) by Lorraine Heath
Read a book tagged at least 10 times as “relax” or “calm” (variations are allowed) - when you look for these 2 words neither shelf list has a book with 10 times, so I found a book that uses variations to reach the total - The Good Husband of Zebra Drive (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #8) by Alexander McCall Smith has comfort reads - 2 times; comfort read - 5 times; gentle reads - 3 times; gentle - 4 times

SandyL - Can you check out the last option - seems unusual that they would pick 2 words where no books match the criteria and if my option is acceptable?

Hi Linda
When they say "variations are allowed" it usually means relaxed or relaxing instead of just relax, or calming instead of calm. Not a completely different term. I will double check to make sure, but you may want to start looking for a different book.

I know there is a way to search for shelves - if anyone knows how to do that please post. In the meantime I'll search around - I think I have notes somewhere.

message 781: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments This is the problem I see. None of the terms has even one book that is shelved 10 times. Can they explain what they were using.

shelves>relax - 1st book is only 8 times
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

shelves>relaxing - 1st book is only 3 times
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

shelves>calm - 1st book is only 1 times
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

shelves>calming - 1st book is only 2 times
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

message 782: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi Linda - good news.
Here's the response I got:
Hey Sandy. Variations that have similar meanings would work. Pleasure. Leisure. Comfort. Etc. We aren’t being overly particular with tasks this Tower.

Here’s a place to try:
https://www.goodreads.com/genres/relax

I'm still waiting for an answer if we can combine shelves to get to that 10 number. I think it's still going to be a tough task to find something that fits that you actually want to read, though. :-)

If you find another term just ask - they said to use our judgement, so we can discuss it here and if no one is sure I can ask in the captain's thread.

message 783: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi Linda - good news:
Total shelves work for me. So like if you have tagged 6 times as pleasure and 4 times as calm, that works.

First of all, I just want to let you know that I think all of you are AWESOME!!!! Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this challenge so far.

I know there is a lot of info - I've tried to condense, but please read it all and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!

TRI-WIZARD ANNOUNCEMENT

Tri-Wizard will have 3 parts:

**Individual Team Tasks
**House Maze
**Final Quidditch Match

Individual Team Tasks
See next post

House Maze - Starts 31 Jul - more info to come
Each House will go through the Maze together as a House. Each move through the maze will require one book, with its own requirements.

Be prepared for surprises, portals, moving floors. There really is no telling what all a House may find within their maze.

Quidditch Round #3
Hufflepuff v Slytherin - 10 August - 15 August
Quidditch Link
Badgers Burrow
Our readers get extra points for the team when participating in Quidditch - it can be intense but a lot of fun, so please consider volunteering, even as a reserve.

We still have our Character spell-outs for any books that don't work for Tri-Wizard. I will get our banked books logged in today and tomorrow. Letters that we need a lot of: E, I, L, N, O, R, S, U and Y (we need 11 Y's!!!) So if you don't want to do tasks, no worries - we still need your books!

Buddy Reads end tomorrow - get any BR's finished up asap!

BOM's - we can still get points for Books of the Month participation. You can participate up to 1 month after the start of the BOM, and we get an extra 20 points. I'll list the current BOM's after the TWT tasks.

Page points
Don't forget we earn points for pages:

100 to 160 pages ........................ 5 points
161 to 350 pages..........................20 points
351 to 500 pages..........................40 points
501 to 650 pages..........................60 points
651 to 800 pages..........................80 points
801 to 900 pages..........................100 points
901+ pages.....................................130 points

So keep in mind - if you read a book that is 350 pages we get 20 points but if its 351 pages we get 40 points. I know most of us are also participating in other challenges and there are books we need to read for those. But when you're looking for books to read, keep in mind the point system above.

TEAM TASKS

Each team will be performing their own set of tasks for the Tri-Wizard Tournament. These tasks are broken down by Harry Potter book.

Each book has 5 separate tasks, comprised of 4 book requirements per task.

In order to receive the points available for completing the tasks:

Choose 3 books
Choose 3 tasks within each of those books to complete

After you've completed those 9 tasks, you may go back and complete any and all additional tasks for more points should you choose to do so. (Note: We have to finish the inital tasks before reading for extra tasks/points)
