Hello Claire!
Sorry; I wasn't very helpful in giving you more information regarding how everything works as its probably a little daunting to read 14 pages of stuff that already happened. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

This link is to post your read books
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This link is a list of all the buddy reads since the challenge started
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

This link is our team spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I'll add your books from your shelf this time but if you could add them to the read books thread next time then Sandy and I will know to add them.

Laura | 9707 comments How's everyone's weekend going? Anyone have any fun plans?

What 's been your favorite read so far of the challenge?

message 658: by Emma (M) (new)

Emma (M) | 1777 comments No fun plans here, just a laid back weekend but it’s been enjoyable nonetheless.

My two 5 Star reads so far have been What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and the The Power by Naomi Alderman . But the book I’m currently reading The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson will probably top the list as it’s a surprise 5 Star read for me. I never expected to love it as much as I have and will definitely want to read more by this author.

Hi Laura, I’ve taken part in the buddy read for this book and have added the extra 20 points to my original Books Read Post as I’ve already finished the book in June. I’ve linked to two of my comments but will continue to take part as the discussion progresses.

message 660: by Claire (new)

Claire | 273 comments Ok, Laura, I’ll add them there. I read through the info, but found it hard to get it in in one time:-)

message 661: by Erika (new)

Erika I’ve actually read a bunch of good things. The Surgeon and In a Dark, Dark Wood come to mind first.

I worked a bit yesterday and today is all about making progress in these stacks of books. I may actually finish a couple! Woop!

No plans. Just reading and watching Wimbledon.

My favourite books read are Iron and Magic (The Iron Covenant, #1) by Ilona Andrews and Sin and Tonic (Sinners, #6) by Rhys Ford .

Hi Emma,
Thanks! I'm a bit disappointed as I'm still in queue to read this one and it doesn't look the queue is moving and I 'm not willing to fork out almost $20.00. Sandy or I will add the buddy read points once there is some interaction between you and readers. Mods have deemed that there must be interaction and simply commenting in the thread is not enough. Mod Shannon says this about buddy reads in her team thread "It can’t just be a couple of singular posts with just your thoughts, it’s all about discussing with each other. Think more Book Club discussion. If you were sitting together and talking about it. "

Myself I try to ask questions and that tends to generate good discussion. ( ie - who is your favorite character, or maybe its something I didn't understand, or I disagree (politely) with someone's opinion)

I just recently finished The Queen and the Cure and characters in the book had different "abilities". I asked the buddy group what their favorite ability was and which ability they would want to have and it generated some discussion!

We will add the points soon:-)

SandyL | 4747 comments It's a quiet weekend for me. I went to lunch with my niece yesterday and then she helped me set up my Firestick and get Netflix. Yep - I'm new to it!! So I spent most of yesterday looking through all the menus and then I watched Mama Mia. I should have waited until TT is over to get this set up (although I'm not a big TV watcher.)

Today I'm going to try and get caught up with the many books I've got in progress right now, including my Buddy Read for Wonder (Wonder, #1) by R.J. Palacio , which is really good (hmmm, I wonder if it's on Netflix? No pun intended!) And the next HP book on my list Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling . I've realized that I'm not a huge HP fan (I know, I shouldn't admit that during the challenge - we may get points deducted from our team!😝.) I have enjoyed the books I've read, but they aren't the kind of books I would normally read one after the other - I need more of a break in between each one.

Will I be lost if I haven't read the other Ilona Andrew's books and read this one?

message 669: by Laura (last edited Jul 15, 2018 08:17AM) (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I've been reading this weekend and enjoying having my daughter home again after her being away for 2 weeks. We watched the Girl Ghostbuster movie on Netflix on Friday night and we are heading out shopping this afternoon.

I'm not sure I can pick just one book... so here are my favorites so far...
Etched in Bone (The Others, #5) by Anne Bishop . I've buddy read the entire series over Towers and loved each book. Definitely one of my favorite series. Looking forward to reading the spinoff!

The Bird and the Sword (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles, #1) by Amy Harmon

* I'll speak very quietly then too* as I'm stuck on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling First 100 pages are boring and just filler. It was exciting to hear about Harry playing quiddicth in the previous books but not so fun to hear about the world cup quidditch match.

Nox Reads (nox_reads) Hi! I'm super excited to join. Out of curiosity, can I use the same books for more than one spell/class?

message 681: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Good morning Nox!
It's one book per class or spell. No doubling up. We are finished with our spells; we are just trying to finish the classes and for that we need two more ARC'S. Erika is working on one.... we still need another. Do you read arc's? If not, then read what you like. Buddy reads and BOM'S get us more points and account for why the top teams are in the lead.

message 682: by Nox (new)

Nox Reads (nox_reads) Hi Laura!
Sorry, I don't have any arc's, but I do have a couple of books to read! Thank you!

Just a tip,...but if anyone has Amazon Prime, Amazon First Reads will work as well for ARC since those are offered to prime members prior to publication. ;)

Ok.....heading back to Gryffindor...lol

message 685: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Thanks for the tip, Shannon! Does anyone have Amazon Prime so we can finish off the end of our classes and get all of our points?

Erika how are you doing with your ARC? Almost finished? Do you have another?

message 686: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (last edited Jul 16, 2018 10:48AM) (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments That works, so I could read Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone from this months selection (pub 1 Aug 2018).b

message 687: by Erika (new)

Erika Yessssss I have a bunch. I have to pick that back up. My library books have been distracting me! I shall focus on getting two arcs read! I really do have a whole mess of them.

message 688: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Phew. Yes, Danielle, will you read that book and Erika will you finish off one then (less pressure) and that will totally complete our classes!!

message 689: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

message 692: by Laura (last edited Jul 16, 2018 02:22PM) (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Yah team! ( thanks Erika and Danielle)
If we read more of those buddy reads ( extra 2030 points) and longer books ( more points) we may be able to move ourselves up in the rankings before the end of our classes/spells.

Don't see a buddy read from the list you like; then ask for someone to come join you HERE

The first post has the spreadsheet with all the buddy reads and Sandy linked it back at the first of the challenge in post #7 of our team thread.

message 693: by SandyL (new)
