No summer league but there is a cheap night which I will take advantage of! $6.00 for all you can bowl. If my wrist doesn't give out I could do several hours ( or I 've been known to!)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 1142 comments Hi Newts!

I've been Harry Potter World over the last several weeks.

I'm also reading a book with star in the title but it's slow going because of the dialect they use in the book.

We are running around trying to get ready for Alaska tomorrow. It sure seems to have snuck up on me.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 1142 comments For fire in title, (witch book) can we use my buddy read of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

message 479: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 1142 comments Also, I'm going to read A Place in the Sun, so if someone has a vampire book, it can be used for that. Or it can be used for Astronomy (but it's only 348 pages)

message 480: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (last edited Jun 15, 2018 03:49PM) (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments I have a long book (over 1000 pages) I’ll be starting soon that can go for astronomy.

Edit: well as long as I enjoy it :) I’m not one for not finishing unless they’re truly awful. However I’m not going to read a thousand pages if I can’t get into it.

Yes, I don't see why not.
I think Sandy and I have just been logging books recently and not placing them in classes or spells. It just didn't get placed yet.

We have a vampire book now; so your sun book can match up and complete that one!

Wow! LOL, that is long! I have Carolina Moon that someone else read but I 'm not going to get to it for a few weeks.

I don't mind if something else goes there if something else comes along first.

Erika I have an ice cream maker attachment for my mixer. This is my first time trying a no cook recipe (usually it takes like a dozen eggs to make the base) but it certainly smelled delicious. It’s Snickerdoodle flavor! I totally forgot to freeze the bowl last night so I have to wait to churn it until tomorrow.

Hi Sandy, I’ve started reading Royal Assassin (Farseer Trilogy, #2) by Robin Hobb which will fit the brown cover, over 500 pages. It will probably take me a little while but it’s a secondary option if your Game of Thrones book works for something else.

There have also been some rule changes based on your Captain's feedback, which we hope will encourage more players on the field! Round two will be not quite as fast and furious as round one!

Important points about round two:

Seeker: Role has not changed

Chaser:
1. other team members can read for the first Quaffle. The announcer needs to nominate the readers before the Quaffle reading begins in the game thread

2. The page count requirement for option 1 has been reduced to 500 pages, but with a minimum reading time of 4 hours

3. Round two has minimum reading times:
35 mins for 100 pages, 1 hour for 150 pages, 1.5 hours for 200 pages, 2 hours for 300 pages, 2.5 hours for 350 pages, 3 hours for 400 pages.
Round page numbers (so if reading 375 pages would be 3 hours, 374 pages would be 2.5 hours)

Beater: Role has not changed

Keeper: re-read rule does not count for Quidditch (i.e. can re-read a book within 6 months)

Reserves: Can take any role except Seeker. Can step in for a minimum of 24 hours. Announcer needs to announce in game thread

Timing Round 2 - 7 days for game. Snitch released after 5

2nd Match: 23 June - 30 June
Gryffindor X Hufflepuff
Ravenclaw X Slytherin

message 495: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hey Newts - if anyone is interested/willing to play Quidditch please either let me know or go to The Badger's Burrow and let us know!

The mods are slowing things down a bit and you don't have to commit to a 2 week period - there can be more swapping out of reserves. And if you don't want to read but are on GR a lot, announcers are also needed. For Round 1 there were extra points given to the players for what they read - I'm guessing there will be something similar for Round 2. We could really use more volunteers from Team Newt!! If you have questions you can also PM me or Laura.

I was thinking a pale brown but you might be right that it’s more beige.

message 497: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Love the ice cream update! How long did it take to make?

message 498: by Erika (new)

Erika It’s a no cook recipe so it was maybe 10 minutes to get the base together and then overnight to chill it. The attempt at churning was about 15 minutes and then we let it set up a couple hours. It tastes amazing but the texture is a little more ice milk than ice cream. I’m going to try it again and not freeze the base before churning.

message 499: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Yay Erika! Thanks for volunteering for Quidditch. If anyone else is thinking about being a reserve, please sign up! We have to have the team set, including all reserves, before it starts. Also, another rule change is that anyone on the team can read for the first Quaffle (a book is read for each letter in the word Quaffle before the game can start.)

message 500: by Erika (new)

Erika You’re welcome! I figured i’d give it a try if a reserve is needed!
