Team Newt Scamander

Hey Newts!!
You all should have received an invitation to the group "The Badgers Burrow" - this is our common room to discuss Quidditch with the other Hufflepuff teams. So make sure you join and go on over and check in.
Has anyone thought about whether they would like to/are willing to be on a team and if so, what position?
Also - for our New Newts - check out the buddy reads folder - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group.... We get 30 extra points if you participate in a buddy read.

Here is a link to my tt-shelf ttNext week I'll be off for a work trip from monday till thursday night. I won't be able to post before I come back. Going to keep on reading though.

2 out of 3 sound good.
Shopping, BBQing if the rain holds out, pool time and finishing up Lilac Girls and starting The Lying Game ohhh and laundry
I did laundry and cleaned and listened to my audiobooks - I started with The Count of Monte Cristo (it's a buddy read) but needed a break from that so I'm also listening to Devil in Spring, which is another buddy read. I've still got my Game of Thrones to listen to, and two other books I'm reading.I get book ADD - I keep finding stuff I want to read and start skipping around!
Holy Cow, Sandy! You've got a lot of books going at once. I get confused when I get too many going at once. Or I get so into one that I forget about the others. I've never been good at having more than 2 (sometimes 3 ) going at once.
For DADA #2 werewolf, could I read Silver-Tongued Devil as the defense? Or does it have to be a paranormal book?
That book works! Ha, I'm also impressed that Sandy can keep so many books going at once. Three is usually my max and I tend to drop the others in favor of one; usually the one I like best.
Anyone interested in reading the Mark Lawrence BOM for June? I can't get the book.
Laura wrote: "Anyone interested in reading the Mark Lawrence BOM for June? I can't get the book"I'm not sure that I can swing that one. We'll be on a cruise to Alaska starting on June 16th so I probably won't be around for DQs.

I think I may read it.

Anyo..."
I don't normally read this many books at once - usually it's just two - one on my kindle and an audiobook. But The Count of Monte Cristo and A Game of Thrones are so long and I can only read a bit of them at a time (and I'm kind-of on pause with GOT since I started TCOMC.

I'm jealous!!
Laura wrote: "Yeah Danielle! ( and thank you for representing our team in quidditch!)"Yes, thank you Danielle! We'll have three matches, so if anyone else wants to play (we need to have at least one member from Newt on the Hufflepuff team) let us know! Has everyone joined the group for the common room?
I’m will be reading
, if we have a male without hat on another book cover, will that work for summoning charm?

I don't think I got this invite.
Also, never done a BR - I assume I only comment while I am reading the book; just go to thread and put in comment? then when I complete the book indicate it was on BR list?
What about other books I just see are on BR list and were ones I read for this challenge. Can I go back and comment now and edit my completed post?
Hi LindaI just sent you an invite.
For the Buddy Reads, the mods want to see interaction with the other readers. So you can put your comments in (and use spoilers if necessary) and give your thoughts on other's comments. You can still do BR's on the books you've read if you got back and interact with the other readers (in fact, I meant to let you know there is a BR for your Kate Daniels book but I'm not sure if it's started yet. Once it does you can participate.)
If you do BR after you already did your completion post, just put another post in either that thread or this one with the link to your first comment and Laura or I will add it to our team spreadsheet.
Hey Newts!Qudditch has started - you can cheer on the Hufflepuff team here:

Hi Sandy. No I didn't see any of it but I heard the good news this morning. First win to Vegas. How exciting for them. I don't want the Capitals to win. Super busy day. I didn't get on Goodreads until I got home from work.
Laura wrote: "Danielle was your book read for quidditch? How goes quidditch?"
No, I didn’t read one I posted earlier for quidditch.
Quidditch is going ok, I’m betting it will get more crazy :)
@Linda - I saw your note in the completed book thread. To count as a buddy read you need to interact with other readers, so just posting comments doesn't count. What you can do is keep an eye on the thread and I'm sure other readers will catch up to that book in the series soon. Once you have some interactions you can come back either here or on the completed books thread and let us know. Thanks!! That will give us and extra 30 points!
Hey Newts; It was a busy day at work today ( no popping on GR's until I got home) Has everyone popped into the Hufflepuff and checked on the Quidditch game? Danielle and team are doing awesome!
I'm hoping to finish my HP read tonight
SandyL wrote: "I am so confused by the Quidditch. Regardless of what's actually happening, good job Danielle!!!"I'm with you, Sandy! And yes, GO DANIELLE!!
Heheh, imagine not having read the Harry Potter series and Sonia starts talking about quidditch. I had lots of questions. Reading book 1 and book 2 has made quidditch a little more clear. BUT: I'm still not 100% sure on quidditch
Here is some information on quidditch. Someone asked this question in the captains chat. (Not sure if this confuses us more or helps clear up!)
"I've got a quick Qudditch question. I'm sorry if this has been answered or discussed previously.
So, our chasers have read our 1st chain and one of the opposing beaters has targeted one of us. One of our beaters is reading to counter, but the opposing beater finished first. Now, I was under the impression that our chaser could still be protected by our beater (a decision made due to time-zone fairness, right?), but Lee has announced that our chaser is out.
If our beater finishes, can our chaser still participate? Do we move on without her? I feel rather stupid for being so confused. "
mod Shannon wrote this reply today:
So the Beaters can read a book read by a Chaser during a Quaffle round (not one of the Quaffle books - that's only the Keeper). Either finished or currently reading. Like our game yesterday, the opposing Beater read a book I'd already finished. So our team had scored, and the Beater didn't stop the score but did manage to knock me out.
If the Beater had gone for a currently reading Chain, and finished before we finished the chain, I would have been knocked out and we wouldn't have scored.
My team's Beater can counter by reading the book, and if they finish before the opposing team's Beater, they "save" that book and the Chaser, the Chain, and the score if its a book currently being read.
As a Chaser, if I've been knocked out, that stays in effect until either my Beater counters by reading the book that knocked me out or our Quaffle gets broken.
Once the Quaffle is broken, that starts a new "round" and the completed (non broken) Chaser Chain books read during the previous Quaffle round(s) are now safe from the opposing team's Beater.
I feel like the explanation just confused me more. I’m working on getting through all my current reads this week(end)
Checking in. This week has been a pain and a half. I should have Shogun finished by tomorrow night, and then I'll knock out a few more small ones.
I have the biggest plan! I'm getting ready to meet a friend that I met on Goodreads! She's flying to stay with me for a week. I can't wait! We've talked every day since we were on a Team challenge together years ago and we're finally meeting in person!
I thought I posted my completion for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone but I didn't see it anywhere, so I've posted that one and chamber of secrets.I'm updating the SS now and currently working on book 3
