message 603: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments That's definitely dirt!

message 604: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hey Linda
A couple of the other captains weighed in and both felt your first book would work, so you could read either one for our "dirt" class.

Thanks!

SandyL | 4747 comments It's supposed to be over 110 degrees (44 C) today! I'm already sweating just thinking about it.

message 606: by Erika (new)

Erika That was yesterday here! The humidity is supposed to break sometime today. I’m hoping when I finally emerge from my home to head out to work it isnt too bad.

message 607: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Where are you at Erika? I'm near Los Angeles. The humidity is also supposed to increase here - just yuck!

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments I know what you mean. We don’t usually have much of a summer here in UK, but we’ve been having hot days for weeks now.

message 609: by Erika (new)

Erika I’m in Maine. We always have super high humidity in July and its been at like 85% lately. Yesterday was awful. I see 0 sunshine today so i’m hoping the on set of rain means its cooler out there today. I have work to do but im not about to pass out for it.

message 610: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I always thought it was much cooler in Maine, Erika!!

@Danielle - I lived in Cornwall for a year and yeah, not much summer!!! It's even harder when it's hot and you're not used to it and don't have air conditioning!

message 611: by Erika (new)

Erika Its a common misconception. We get a lot of humidity so it drives our summer temps up. The hottest day i can remember was 105 and that was in September during a last hurrah of summer.
It does get frigid in the winter and we seldom have much of a spring.

message 612: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments It got up to 114 degrees yesterday! Today it's supposed to be "much cooler" - only 105 degrees and didn't get below 80 overnight. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

Laura | 9707 comments Happy Saturday! Sweet bliss. First Saturday I haven't worked in about 22 weeks. Hoping to finish another buddy read tonight.

SandyL | 4747 comments description

Hi Newts!
We're doing great with our spells and classes:

Divination - we need two more ARCs. They are worth 20 points each, which is pretty valuable, so if anyone has access to an ARC please help us out!

Herbology - we need one book with dirt on the cover (and I think Linda has this covered???)

Spells - We have 44 more letters to fill and 39 books, so we should be fine here. We are waiting to see what the Tri-Wizard tournament looks like before filling in the rest of the letters. I don't think there are any specific letters we need to read for right now. If that changes I'll let you all know.

We're still waiting on info for the Tri-Wizard tournament. We've got just over 3 weeks left and you guys have been doing great. Keep it up and don't forget about the extra points we get from Buddy Reads!

Emma (M) | 1777 comments I can’t believe there is only three weeks left! I’m currently in the process of reading a 1000 page book, which has been taking a while, however I’m off work this week and hoping to get some major reading done!

message 617: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Nice... 1000 pages that's ambitious! Enjoy your week off.

message 618: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments Yes, I am half way through my dirt book.

message 619: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Happy Monday Newts!

Here's a note from Sonia in the Leaky Cauldron:
Anyway, we're discussing things in the background, and since what we have in store is so good, we're thinking about adding a couple weeks more to the challenge.

So... we need to know if you're on board with that idea.

Also, the resident little hobbit had this awesome idea to create a Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic teams, just for TriWizards in order to allow for reserves to experience a bit of the magic.

Thoughts?

Hopefully you are all available to keep playing for a bit longer? You can weigh in here or at the Leaky Cauldron

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It's finally cooling down a bit - only in the mid-90's, which is kinda normal for summer here. I went to see the documentary on Mr Rogers yesterday - Won't You Be My Neighbor?. It's really good!

Oh!! I have located my arc again (sooooooo many books) and popped in my “read me nowww” pile

It's so rewarding when you get done with these biggies, Emma! I read The Count of Monte Cristo and, although it took me a month because I read other things in between, it felt so good when I was done. It was even better that it was a great book! Read on, girl!

Wow, good work on getting through The Count of Monte Christo! I’ve tried a couple of times but get unstuck after the point he escapes. I’ve yet to make it much farther than that. One day I’ll try again :)

Thanks for the recommend, I might try that one. I have the audio version but with a different narrator and he wasn’t particularly good, so maybe a change in narrator is all I need :)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hey Newts!!!

All our spells are completed and the only thing we have left in our Classes is our 2 ARCs.

If you don't mind, please continue to include the letters for spells until we have info on the Tri-Wizard tournament (in case we need to move books around.) Once we know what that looks like, we can re-evaluate.

Great job everyone!

message 636: by Erika (new)

Erika Woohoo!!

Laura | 9707 comments Nice! Safe travels and have fun. We have two books left to finish classes. We need two ARC'S. Erika is reading one. If you have one and can read it we would finish up everything.
Tri wizards starts soon!
