20. A book by a local author The Continuity Girl by Leah McLaren from Peterborough, ON (About 3 hours away from me). ⭐️ completed 7/4/2018 - Wish I could rate it 1.5 ⭐️ as at times I didn't like it and at times I thought it was just ok. Definitely not one I'd recommend anyway, the story is very disjointed and the character development is extremely weak often leaving the reader confused or just thinking...well that was awfully random.

29. A book about or set on Halloween Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (The first major event occurs during the Halloween Feast and there's the whole bit about Nearly Headless Nick's Death Day/Party so I'm counting it for this!) completed 3/25/2018

38. A book with an ugly cover The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini ⭐️ completed 2/3/2018 I DON'T RECOMMEND - while I really enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I REALLY did NOT enjoy the Kite Runner at all...it was a DNF from about 6 months ago that I picked up and finished for the purposes of this prompt because I really had nothing else that I thought had an ugly cover and I figured maybe the ending would be better because it generally has great ratings....I was wrong...hype isn't everything!
39. A book that involves a bookstore or library Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell ⭐️⭐️⭐️ completed 6/15/2018
40. Your favorite prompt from the 2015, 2016, or 2017 POPSUGAR Reading Challenges:

4. A book tied to your ancestry Outlander by Diana Gabaldon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ completed 9/23/2018

6. An allegory Flabbergasted by Ray Blackston completed 2/10/2018 ⭐️⭐️
7. A book by an author with the same first or last name as you Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay completed 7/19/2018 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
8. A microhistory Who Killed the Avro Arrow? by Chris Gainor ⭐️ completed 7/24/2018 - I'm not sorry that I read this book as I now have a greater appreciation for the history of my local area and other Canadian issues however, I was very frustrated at the structure of this book (not chronological), found that it was very long-winded and repetitive, and was full of dry details. I probably would have it enjoyed it much more at half the length.
9. A book about a problem facing society today Tomorrow's Promise by Lauren Brooke ⭐️⭐️⭐️ completed 6/16/2018 (how to cope with grief/loss and guilt/blame associated with it)
10. A book recommended by someone else taking the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ completed 6/21/2018

Books I DNF during the process of this challenge:
-The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I just really wasn't in the mood for something not written in modern english and I found myself slogging through it for a while. I tried audiobook & ebook but I couldn't stay interested in either. May try again later if the mood strikes.

-An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
If you've read the synopsis, you already know 99% of the plot. Also parts of this book were just in really poor taste (I'm not referring to the main story I'm refering to tidbits that were just uncalled for). Ex: "going to buy a fish sandwich from the muslims" when there is no further narration of the sandwich or her experience buying it. I felt it just served to add to an unnecessary stereotype. Ex: "I don't want him to know history so that he doesn't feel like he owes anyone". I'm pretty sure we should all be grateful to the vets who laid down their lives for our freedom who didn't expect anything from individuals in return!

Lucky you! I went to London to watch it last summer with my 3 kids (9, 14, 17 yrs). We all loved the play - even the 9-year-old, who was 8 at the time and not a native English speaker.

Erin | 6 comments Lucky kids you have! Our tickets aren't for a while still -- it was difficult getting three tickets together, and we weren't going without the kiddo :-)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Yes - I bought ours a year in advance and sat with 3 computers on the day they released a new batch of tickets to enhance my chances. We were lucky it worked out :)
