2017 Buddy Reads - Introduction & Sign Up
Deborah - I would be willing to discuss the first book with you and start reading with the second book. (If that's okay Mary Pat)
Brianna wrote: "Deborah - I would be willing to discuss the first book with you and start reading with the second book. (If that's okay Mary Pat)"That is fine with me! I will set it up for April with both of you as participants! (I may even try to join you as I also read the first book and have the others on my list for this year. Have to get through my other commitments first though!)

I've also read the first one but would like to join in for the rest!

I will add you to the list Lindsay!

I have yet to read the series and I would love to join, just let me know when you're starting and what book you are starting with :)

Great, Kyla! I have added you to the list of participants! I have set the first book up for April. You and Deborah will be reading it for the first time. Brianna and Lindsay (and I) have all read the first book but will chime in, then join you for the second book in May.
Amber wrote: "Curious how I can join buddy reading, Mary?"Hi, Amber!
The first two posts in this thread provide all the nitty gritty details but I can give the cliff notes version.
Basically, if you are interested in reading a book as a buddy read, simply post here. If at least one other person wants to read that book, I will create a thread for the discussion.
You should also look to see what others folks have suggested or what buddy reads are already set up. If you want to join one of those, simply post here and I will add you to the list!
FYI, there is a separate thread for every month's buddy reads. April 2017 buddy reads can be found here.

Once you decide, just post here and I will add you to the list of participants for that book discussion!
If you are interested in reading a different book, post the name of the book here and if one or more other members want to read it with you, I will start a new thread for that book.
Great, Amber! I will add you to the list of participants for the April Buddy Read - Wuthering Heights.

I don't think that I will be starting the second book for a while after I'm finished the first one *sad face*...I just want to dip my feet in the world and see how I like it bc that's a long commitment hahaha
I've read the first two Mortal Instrument books. Can I be added to the list so I can at least follow along. I'm interested in what everyone thinks.Maybe the series can continue as a buddy read? :) That way I can be motivated with others to finally pick up book 3 lol.
I've borrowed it from the library so many times but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

No problem Kyla!

Of course, Taylor R! I will add you to the list of participants! And I think the plan is to continue it as a series buddy read!
I'm on book 5 of MI; could I be added to the buddy read too so I can see what people think of the series so far? It's difficult to find someone at the same place as you with the series. Haha
Could I also be added to the Mortal Instrument Buddy read please?I have not read it yet. I got 2 chapters in a few years ago and quit. It's something I really WANT to like, so maybe being in a group will motivate me to get into it.
Same as Taylor for me. I read the first 2 and haven't read the 3rd book yet. I'd love to follow along with the series also. I've had the third book for awhile!
Joan wrote: "Same as Taylor for me. I read the first 2 and haven't read the 3rd book yet. I'd love to follow along with the series also. I've had the third book for awhile!"I've had it from the library twice and never read it lol. Maybe the third time will be the charm :P

YES! Thank you Mary Pat!! You're da best :D lol.
I'm hoping to read all five A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin this year. They're quite chunky books and I could do with some motivation to complete them. Anyone else up for a series buddy read with me? Or just the first book? Starting July maybe?
Rachael wrote: "I'm hoping to read all five A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin this year. They're quite chunky books and I could do with some motivation to complete them. Anyone els..."Rachael, I dont mind read this books with you in july if that fine with you?
I might be able to do Song of Ice and Fire as well this year, depending on what I have going on in July. I've read them before but I want to reread them before Winds of Winter comes out.
Rachael wrote: "I'm hoping to read all five A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin this year. They're quite chunky books and I could do with some motivation to complete them. Anyone els..."I want to try them, so I can join.
Wow! Everyone is in a different place in the Mortal Instrument series - me included! :)Maria, SarahKat, Joan, Allie, I have added you to the list of participants.
Please participate as best you can in the conversations for each book even if you have already read it. It keeps things lively!
Rachael, Amber, Amanda, SarahKat & Kyla - I have it on my list to start A Game of Thrones as a buddy read in July. I suspect more folks will join as we get closer.P.S. You might want to consider giving each book two months as they are long. Let's try for one a month but extend it if needed. This series could actually extend into early 2018.)
Ooh! I'll join the Game of Thrones buddy read if I can get the book in time. I have a feeling the wait list will be long for it at the library with the last TV season coming out in June.

It is sound good to me.
Would anybody be interested in reading Les Miserables in July/August? I have had the book on my shelf for like 10 years and could use some accountability with it!

That's a good idea as they are very long :)
I'm also interested in the Les Miserables buddy read
Allie, Amber & Rachel - I have added you the the Ice & Fire (Game of Thrones) buddy read that is scheduled to start in July.Amanda, Amber, Allie, Suzy, Rachael & Marcus - I have put Les Miserables on the calendar as an August buddy read.
Hi, Susy! A good way to remember you have a buddy read scheduled for later in the year is to set up notifications for this thread. I always post here when I set up the monthly threads.
To turn on notifications for this thread, click on "Notify me when people comment" at the top of the page. It will change to "You are following this discussion". Click the edit button next to it and select a method for receiving your notifications.
Thank you Mary Pat. In fact, I read already 2/3 of the book (Les Miserables, portuguese edition), but the reading stalls a little bit. I need a incentive.
I'm not sure if I'm too late to the party, but I'll be reading Matched by Ally Condie during April, if anyone else wants to join. :DAlso, I'd like to jump in on Wuthering Heights. It's been on my shelf forever as well, and it would be nice to check it off my "Classics" list. XD

I want to make a serious dent in my "classics" list for the quarterly challenge during May. I find that classics are best read with company, because sometimes you need help understanding or unpacking! Is anyone interested in reading any of the following during May (or June)?
The Age of Innocence
Pale Fire
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
The Count of Monte Cristo
Northanger Abbey
Chrissy wrote: "I want to make a serious dent in my "classics" list for the quarterly challenge during May.
