I hope I'm not posting about books that have already been mentioned, but I went through the posts and I don't think I am unless I've missed something, so here goes. I'm pretty tied up until June, so these are all for after then, and I prefer the summer mostly, but I'm flexible timewise, so it'd really be up to anyone who wants to buddy read with me when we do it.
I'd like to read The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana by Umberto Eco, but I haven't read any Eco before and I hear it's a sort of difficult book to get through, and I'd like to give it a go with someone.
I'm a student of sociology, and there's a book, Street Corner Society: The Social Structure of an Italian Slum by William Foot Whyte which is an ethnographical study of an Italian Slum in Boston, which from what I can tell reads basically like an incredible realistic novel. It's a work of participant observation, and the bulk of the book is him recounting the things he's seen there, and then some analysis of what it means, so I think it's a book that might be interesting to a lot of people, not only those of us who are studying the subject or have some academic inclination, so if there's anybody up for it I'd love to go into it together! (I also have some other, more theoretical and specific books that I'm intending to read that I won't bother listing here, but if there's anybody interested in sociology or social theory who wants to buddy read I'd love to hear from you)
A few other books that I'd especially like to buddy read are Orientalism by Edward Said, because I live in Turkey which is close enough to the Orient that I'd be interested to see what a more 'Western' perspective on this is, The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, and The Brooklyn Follies, Sunset Park or The Book of Illusions by Paul Auster (I currently have my heart set on Brooklyn Follies, but I have all three on hand, for some reason I can't recall, and I want to read at least one, and I'm not really picky).
Sorry to the mod for the super long post, hope I'm not being a horrible bother!

Chrissy, I'll have a go at Northanger Abbey.
I see others are wanting to Buddy Read a couple of your suggested books in June, so... we could do May for Northanger Abbey. :)

MAY
I just bought Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham, and I'm really itching to read it. Would anyone else be interested in reading this one in May?
***
SUMMER
Also, I've been wanting to read the following:
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin
Would anyone be interested in reading any of these over the summer?
I haven't read any of these books/series, so we'd be starting with the 1st book in any/all of them. We could even turn them into Series Buddy Reads if people are interested. But I'm also good with just reading the first book if people don't want to commit to a series. :)

OCTOBER
I've never read Dracula or Frankenstein and was hoping to mark those off my list of classics this year. What better month than October, right? :) Anyone up for either of these then?

Hi!
I'd be interested in doing one or both of Dracula and Frankenstein in October.

That would be a great monthly challenge for october: Creepy classics!
Anyway, I would also be up for a buddy read of Frankenstein in October.

But I'd love to read Northanger Abbey.
I'm up for Dracula or Frankenstein (or both!) in October :)

I will totally join in on Someday, Someday, Maybe for May - I've had it on my shelves for awhile now and have been wanting to read it!
For your summer options - I may want to join in on The 5th Wave, but that may not be feasible until July if that's okay.
Also - will totally join in on Dracula in October. I've been wanting to read it for ages!

Brianna, I'm excited to have someone to read Someday, Someday, Maybe with! :D
July sounds great for The 5th Wave. :)

Awesome! Sounds like a plan!

Hi, Luffy! We are scheduled to start reading the Ice & Fire series in July. We will start with Game of Thrones in July, A Clash of Kings in August, A Storm of Swords in September, etc.
Keep in mind though that we might extend the time to read each book as they are long!

Hi, Sheila! I have added you to the May buddy read for To Kill a Mockingbird. Also, be sure to read through the first post in this thread. It will give you a good overview of how buddy reads work!

Is anyone interested in reading either or both of these books as a Buddy Read?

Yay! I set a reminder for september 1st to buy the books! I just joined a challenge in another group pledging to only read books which I already own.... Oops ;P

Thanks for clearing that up. I will wait.

Mary Pat, would you please add me to the "To Kill a Mockingbird" discussion? Thanks in advance :)

Having the same problem.... Would like to read To Kill a Mockingbird, The Wrath & the Dawn and Kafka on the Shore. Shouldn't read any of them cause my intention for this year is to read the books I own and that have been resting on my bookshelves for so long.... Just 2 more days to decide.

Haha, good luck resisting the temptation, Susy :)

The wrath & the dawn
Kafka on the shore

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is the only one (of the three you mentioned) that is definitely going to be a buddy read. But I'm planning on reading Kafka on the Shore either way, Susy :) You are more than welcome to join me for a buddy read if you're up for it. And anyone else who is interested for that matter :)

Mary Pat, would you please add me to the "To Kill a Mockingbird" discussion? Thanks in advance :)"
Will do, Lisa!
