What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book) - Part 2
Diana, I'm now over halfway through the 2nd Josef Slonsky book, Slaughter and Forgetting: Murder and intrigue on the streets of Prague..., just as good.
I'm reading The Eighth Sister, a stand-alone by Robert Dugoni. It starts of as a classic spy thriller with an ex CIA agent recruited to run an undercover mission in Russia. The blurb says his cover will be blown and he will then be in a fight for his life as both countries want him dead. Very good so far (20% read). Still available on netgalley.
I'm reading another of those 'must read' Aussie memoirs that reads like a novel.....Teacher: One woman's struggle to keep the heart in teaching. So heartwarming and heart-wrenching in equal measure.
This month, I'm reading: The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas
Penny Dreadfuls: Sensational Tales of Terror
Bulfinch’s Mythology: The Age of Fable
Ted and Sylvia - Emma Tennant
All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque
Ambulance Girls - Deborah Burrows
and just finished Summers With Juliette - Emily Madden
PS. I've also started reading Dubliners by James Joyce 💕
Currently reading a new to me aussie author (trying to read a few new authors before my cheap Kindle Unlimited runs out at the end of the month)Small Town Nightmare by Anna Willett, currently 25% in and really enjoying it. I liken it to Jaye Ford and Sarah Barrie’s books.
Have a couple more that I got free or cheaply from Amazon, so will definitely read them.
I have that one waiting in the wings too Marlin. I hadn't heard of her or the book until recently so snapped it up. She lives in Adelaide from memory :) Good to hear you're enjoying it, and I LOVE both the two authors you likened it to!!
I have just started on
by Nicholas Lochel whois apparently not only an Australian author but a local one; from Brisbane.I am reading it as my 'Z' for the A-Z challenge and I had never heard of it and would probably not have picked it up except for the title. I am glad I did though, while it is listed as a kids book it is a pretty meaty one with a complex vocabulary. It is really good so far.

I had no idea she may live in Adelaide😃
I just re-read her profile (on Amazon) and she was raised in WA...don't know where I got Adelaide from - another author I suspect :) https://www.amazon.com/Anna-Willett/e...

I’m a 100 pages into; Islands by Peggy Frew
and all I can say is I hope it gets better. I’m a little lost to say the least 😊

Good luck :) It wasn't for me either!

Thanks Brenda. Nearly finished as I was up late reading last night only wish it had enough been with a better book lol. Never mind they can’t all be 5★ reads 😊
I've just finished Mrs. Pepperpot Stories by Alf Prøysen. I read these as a kid and revisited them for a challenge. Absolutely delightful, I hope to share them with my great nieces and nephews when they're old enough. Now starting The Lost Man by Jane Harper
One topical read after another: first Losing the Plot with all the plagiarism stuff going on;
then From Secret Ballot to Democracy Sausage: How Australia Got Compulsory Voting with the election coming up. PattyMac, I think you'd like this one
Just started crow Hollow, as I've busted my back, so can't do anything but lay perfectly still & flat. What better time but to catch up my reading wishlist that has layed stagnent for too long 😂 📙 Crow Hollow http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25...

Sorry to hear about your back! At least the reading is a silver lining.
Just finished Talking To My Country by Stan Grant. This book is described as ' the book every Australian should read' and I would agree with that.
Brenda wrote: "I have The Spanish Promise down for next month Krystal :)"Hope you enjoy it, Brenda!
I've now moved on to Nevernight by Jay Kristoff which has hooked me from the very beginning!

Just started it Krystal :)
I've just noticed that I'm reading two crime novels set in Sweden. My kindle read is Slugger by Martin Holmén while my print-on-paper read is The Department of Sensitive Crimes by Alexander McCall Smith. Two reads further apart on the spectrum I just can't imagine! Holmen's is dark and gritty, McCall Smith's is cosy and philosophical.
LOL
I've just started Plight of the Living Dead: What Real-Life Zombies Reveal about Our World--And Ourselves by Matt Simon and You Know You Want This by Kristen Roupenian. The first is about the real zombies: some animals (and fungi) in fact can parasite and zombify other organisms to reproduce themselves. I'm a biologist but I'm always surprised by how the strategies nature has come up with to perpetuate life on our planet.
The second is a collection of short stories about dating and desire in our modern life. Some stories can be even disturbing, but the book catches the reader's attention (at least mine, so far)!
I'm just starting Attack of the Theater People by Marc Acito. I read the first book a few years ago and have had this one sitting in my unit for a couple of years. The books are good but I'm also reading it for 'a book with an ugly cover' challenge.

Having enjoyed Mary Norris's Between You & Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen, I was delighted and surprised to open her new book, Greek to Me: Adventures of the Comma Queen, and find a quote from my review on BookMooch
Loved Nevernight, Phrynne!! Solid 5 stars from me!I've now moved on to Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman which I'm rather enjoying!

Oh an absolutely heart breaker of a book...makes your soul hurt a little...
I'm currently reading Too Much Lip first time reading Melissa Lucashenko and loving her writing style!
Jen wrote: "Just started the Expanse series (Sci Fi space opera)- Leviathan Wakes (4.5 stars) and The Butcher of Anderson Station (novella - 4 stars) now reading the second book in the series, Caliban’s War."
Leviathan Wakes, The Butcher of Anderson Station, Caliban's War all by James S.A. Corey

Currently reading Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson - this is his fourth psychological thriller, starting with The Kind Worth Killing, all of which have been 5 star reads for me and this one is going the same way, unless the ending disappoints! His stories are always just so unique in both concept and execution:-The Kind Worth Killing
All the Beautiful Lies
Her Every Fear

I have
and
Sitting there staring at me; my next read will be one of them, I just need to find my reading mojo. It is a bit lost, I fear it may have rolled under the couch or something....
I got into a bit of a reading funk for a while - but finally seem to be getting my groove back again slowly. My current physical book is
Calling Invisible Women by Jeanne Ray - which is hard to explain, but sort of fantasy/Science Fiction/Women’s Fiction. On Kindle I have
Stolen Magic by our very own Marina Finlayson - only up to the second chapter, but very good so far! Finally my kobo book is
Lady Theodora's Christmas Wish by Arietta Richmond - a cute historical romance
I've struggled with The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett. Have set it aside. I am not a great fan of the fantasy genre. In the meantime I have read Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon and have started Jane and the Damned by Janet Mullany. Love reading Jane Austen inspired novels.
Readers who were disappointed with 55 should read Life Before by Carmel Reilly: I found it an excellent antidote! Review later, but 5★s
I'm currently 'reading' Burial Rites Burial Rites as an audio book which is my first audio book. Loving both the book and the format so far.
