Carol wrote: "Do you think her new book is better than Commonwealth, Andrea? I loved that one..."I found The Dutch House more absorbing. I was able to get totally wrapped up in it, whereas Commonwealth was a story I could leave for days at a time. I don’t mean I didn’t enjoy Commonwealth, it just didn’t give me the same reading experience.

This is one of my favourites, Carol, but I must admit I skim-read the poetry.
I didn’t know anything about the story when I went to see the movie on release. I loved it so much that I left the cinema and immediately bought the book on the way home!
Possession is one of my favourites too, and like Andrea, I skim-read the poetry. Like A.S. Byatt's other novels, it's one you can put down and pick up again.I'm currently working my way slowly through her The Frederica Quartet.
I'm currently reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being. It's a bit slow to begin with but I haven't had any good solid chunks of time to get through much yet so it's just a few pages here, a few there.

Currently reading, and thoroughly enjoying, The Testaments by Margaret Atwood
Also reading, but currently 'on hold' The Shadows in the Street by Susan Hill
I'm loving my second dose of Hirsch Peace, but at almost 60 pages in I was wondering, Am I meant to be laughing this much? It will probably all get serious very soon... And it does. I'm NOT thanking Garry Disher for the ear worm, though: The Seekers, Morningtown Ride? Aaargh. And now you'll all be cursing me, too,
Currently reading White Horses. White Horses Didn't like the first chapter but persisted and the story improved. It's not my usual genre.
The latest Louise Penny - A Better Man For those who have not read Louise Penny I highly recommend the
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series of which this is the 15th.
You will fall in love with Gamache and the village of Three Pines and its characters.

It's a fabulous series in my opinion too Margot - I recommend it be read in order though :)

Currently reading
Snow Creek by Gregg Olsen a Netgalley book that is being archived in the next week (18/11 also date of publication). I have found it hard to put it down, it is the first in a new series by this author who is new to me.
I was lucky enough to be able to borrow The Twentieth Man from the library straight away, so that I can dive into that before moving on to In Darkness Visible. Looks like I’ll be spending the rest of the month with Tony Jones, as they’re both fairly hefty books.
Marianne wrote: "I'm 40% into Just an Ordinary Family, excellent so far, even if the blurb is a bit misleading."
Good to know Marianne. It's not released until February so down my TBR quite a long way :)

Finally got around to starting Snake Island by Ben Hobson and I'm already conflicted over the whole, 'he's a criminal' vs 'he's a son' thing.
I'm immersed in
by AA Vicki Hastrich and ARC from the champions at A&UIt is really good, series of essays and I am loving every one but it is not fast because each one is very individual, and so I need to have time between them in order to appreciate them fully.

I finished Night Fishing by Vicki Hastrich last night. Adored those essays! Such a beautiful memoir collection. One I'll read again.
About to start reading Your Own Kind of Girl by Clare Bowditch. I've heard such great things about it already and have always liked her as a singer. Apparently she acted in Offspring but I can't remember her in that.

Andrea wrote: "Kim wrote: "

Just finished Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris, very disappointing -https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Disappointing as I was really looking forward to reading it.
Not by design, I find myself reading two novels set on distant planets: Half Way Home is my kindle read for at home, The Old Lie is my out-walking read.
I've started reading Hinterland by Steven Lang and it's absolutely stunning. Great character detail, with a hint of menacing drama.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
A ARC of The Argument by Victoria Jenkins.

The Argument by Victoria Jenkins
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, by Arundhati Roy. It’s absolutely fantastic so far - I actually prefer it to The God of Small Things, which I never really warmed to.It’s got mixed reviews, so I’m not sure how it will be later on, but I found TGOST very self-conscious. This is less so, at least so far.
I started reading my token Christmas read today - Midwinter Mysteries: A Christmas Crime Anthology. First up, a Christmas Eve outing with Lt Josef Slonsky and Co!

I've just finished Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton. The best book I have read in years! I'm about to start The Break by Katherena Vermette

Working my way through Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff (AA)I loved the first book and happy to report the second one is equally entertaining and brutal and unpredictable! Will be a quick read, I think!
I'm reading Threads: the untold story of fashion house George Gross & Harry Who - it's really interesting.
I am currently readingAmbulance Girls:by:Deborah Burrows
I believe the group is reading this one?
I am a bit concerned though, cause i can't find the audio for book 3 in the series anywhere. I am loving this book, so hope audible releases book 3. I managed to acquire book 2. May have to hunt for the audio cd for book 3. i hate it when i can't finish a series I like. :(.
So thankful to whoever picked this book to read, and that it was in audio, so i shouldn't moan.
lol.

It was released a year ago Maria, but isn't on audio yet. I'll do some chasing for you to see if I can find it. Yes, the group's reading the 1st in the series, which I personally loved and I have #2 to read soon.
