Long after the dust has settled, I’m making a start on Scrublands by Chris Hammer. So many of my GR friends have read it, and most rated it either 4 or 5 stars.

I am currently reading
by Australian Valerie Taylor who, with her husband Ron Taylor set the bar for underwater photography for years. These guys are legends and I am really enjoying her autobiography.
Another of those coincidences:just finished Away with the Penguins featuring penguins (of course)
now reading Mammoth featuring a fossilised penguin
Marianne wrote: "Just finished Broken Man on a Halifax Pier. Thanks to Carolyn for the review that made me ask the library to order this. Second last page, a certain few lines said by Ramona made me..."Yes, I remember Marianne! It's a lovely book :)
I have been reading
by Karen FoxleeI am really impressed at how well she has portrayed Far North Queensland! It all comes to life so vividly as I read it. The characters and plot are also good, but the scenery is often my favorite bit.
Just finished The Museum of Forgotten Memories and now beginning The Dictionary of Lost Words. Do I have a theme going here?
Just finished Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo - this was a wonderful read, which I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys an enthralling read - 5★My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I think you've got the wrong thread Trevor - not that it matters greatly ;) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I've just started
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. The title just made me want to read it!

That is definitely the best tactic, though I was worried I could not finish the April challenge, so I delayed a couple of the longer ones. Maybe I should cut down on the time and energy I put into my reviews...
Deborah wrote: "I have just started my ARC from A&U

I usually take some notes as I read so my review is mostly written by the time I've finished reading

True Marianne! I usually have little bits of paper sticking out of books, with tiny comments (which, occasionally, I cant read myself even) all to use in the review.
But, speaking of The Octopus and I, has anyone else read the ARC yet? I have a lot of thoughts and feeling about this book, especially about the main character, Lucy. I am loving the descriptions of Tassie, it's wildlife, it's people and it's beaches.... Lucy though I am really not sure about...
Anyone out there up for a discussion about this book?

That's what I do . But unlike Marianne I don't take notes as I go, unless it is a story that is not gripping me. If I am involved all I want to do is read,

Create a thread for this book in the Individual Book Discussions folder Deborah if you want - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... - but make sure you request spoilers are enclosed so the book isn't spoiled for others :)

Exactly. Sounds like we're two of a kind there, Brenda.

Well, the more gripping the story is the less likely I am to take notes, that is definitely true. But if it is a loooong book, or one that I have reservations about while I read? Then the junk mail envelopes come in handy.
I have just started Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan SwiftThis was a book I remember not loving. Not hating either, just feeling very iffy about it. I am hoping that by reading the introduction and a bit more about the author and the times I can come to see more in it.
Just finished The River Home with a best-selling author wife outshining her writer's blocked husband, and now reading To Tell You the Truth where, you guessed it, we have a best-selling author wife outshining her writer's blocked husband
Currently reading The Fifth Avenue Story Society by Rachel Hauck
and
Bent World, Bright Wings by Anne Hamilton
Love the covers on both these books and interesting reading.
Isn't it strange how sometimes you find yourself reading a string of books with a common theme or common covers. Last year I found myself reading a long string of books with black covers, currently it's blue covers:
Diana wrote: "I'm about 10 chapters in on Bruny by Heather Rose. It's very good."I read that recently and loved it!
Currently reading Tourmaline by Randolph StowIt is a beautifully written book of early Australian literature, but it is not a fast read because the language is so rich. I might well fail my June challenge because it is slow to read, but it is worth it.
currently reading Finding Edward but soon on my TBR, Finding Eadie, LOLand then a bit later, Looking for Alice: A Gunvor Strm Novel

Seems a lot of people on your bookshelf are going missing!
Started today:-I Hear the Sirens in the Street by Adrian McKinty
2nd in the series featuring RUC detective Sean Duffy.
Yesterday I started reading Crossings by Alex Landragin, has anyone else read it? It's a little bizarre but so far I'm enjoying it! It's a bit strange in that you can either read it like a normal book, or follow the instructions and read the chapters in a completely different order. I've opted for normal but I'm so curious about the alternative reading of it!

I am so far.

I'd rather be able to just read it once and be done with it.
Having read the blurb some time back, I'd forgotten if the book I just started Ten Little Words was set in America or not. Then four words in quick succession let me know: baked beans, GP, duvet gave me the answer: England
Krystal wrote: "Yesterday I started reading Crossings by Alex Landragin, has anyone else read it? It's a little bizarre but so far I'm enjoying it! It's a bit strange in that you c..."That does sound intriguing. Added it to my 'want to read' list.
I've just finished Journey Under the Midnight Sun by Keigo Higashino.
I've read two other books by this author, translated Japanese crime fiction. This one is considered his masterpiece. Yep over 500 pages with many twists and turns, absolutely fantastic.
Now onto Nutshell by Ian McEwan for an online book group read.
Last night I started The Long Road Home By Fiona McCallum
I can honestly say I’m disappointed with this one and I do like this author, but sadly this book is not as good as her last one. It’s not holding my interest and I’m finding it repetitive and not much is happening. Maybe it’s just me. I’m nearly on page 250 :)
