Oh, me too! I just finished Homer's Odyssey A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat by Gwen Cooper and I loved it, hence starting this book :-)

Andrea | 2163 comments Recently I stumbled across an excellent doco on ABC1 called Lucy the Human Chimp and it reminded me of Karen Joy Fowler’s book, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. About a week later I noticed an audiobook edition of this title in BorrowBox and took it as a sign for a re-read! I’m a few chapters in and enjoying it all over again.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments On audiobook, I have just started listening to The Better Son by Katherine Johnson by Katherine Johnson

and I have to say, while the writing is excellent, and the narration just as excellent I am finding it really confronting!

I guess, I feel like it could use a trigger warning for child abuse. While I have never thought of myself as being particularly sensitive to DV in books, parts of this one are getting to me somewhat.

I hope it eases up, or I might have to try for a real book, to see if that is easier to cope with.

I loved this book Deborah, but you probably should put spoiler brackets around some of that, please :)

message 3357: by Em__Jay (new)

Em__Jay | 500 comments I finished Who Is Maud Dixon? by Alexandra Andrews. It's a great suspense book with plenty of twists.

I started, and am enjoying, Charlotte Wood's foodie book Love and Hunger. It's a compilation of food stories, recipes and cooking hints.

David Menon (wwwgoodreadscomdavidmenon) Bloody January by Alan Parks

I'm reading 'Bloody January' by Alan Parks and thoroughly enjoying it! It's a police procedural/detective murder mystery set in 1970s Glasgow and he's brilliant at pulling you in to the point where you believe you're there inside the story. It's the first one I've read by Alan but it won't be the last. highly recommended. .

David Menon (wwwgoodreadscomdavidmenon) Into the Night (Gemma Woodstock, #2) by Sarah Bailey

I've never read any of Sarah's novels before but I'm 30% into this one and I'm really enjoying it. Set in Melbourne and full of atmosphere. Great stuff so far.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I am reading an Aussie book at the moment actually.
The Sea and Summer by George Turner who was a very well respected Australian author and way underated in my opionion.

He started writing sci-fi late in his career and this one was published in 1987. It was way ahead of it's time, with climate change as a main theme even before such things were being mentioned in mainstream science much. Way ahead in predicting dystopian trends in sci-fi to. Beautiful writing.

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

Love & Virtue by Diana Reid

Hey Fifi, are these two authors related? What a coincidence!!

If you're not sure how to link your books and authors, just click on 'add book/author' in the top right hand corner and follow the prompts :) If you need any help, just yell as there are plenty who are happy to help..

I swear it was unintentional to pick two authors with the same last name 😋 and thank you for the help.

Jac Buchanan (jacbuchanan) | 10 comments I've got a few on the go (such is ADD).
* I'm excited to be beta-reading James Steven's new zombie short story (which is quite funny, and very entertaining).
* Oldie but a goodie The Eye of the World
* Reviewing Old Wounds: A Nick Shelby Case and Other Crime Stories for Tom Batt.
* Finishing off Spill Simmer Falter Wither and Kicked Out
A good way to pass time while I'm waiting for mine to come back from betas.

I'm with you on the exposition! Natural inclusion allows readers to experience it through the character's eyes. So much more enjoyable, but certainly an underrated and misunderstood art.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments I’m reading Rats: A Year With New York's Most Unwanted Inhabitants by Robert Sullivan. I’ve had this book for years and I’m pleased to say it’s really interesting. Although rats gross me out you learn a lot about them and their behaviour plus the history of New York sanitation and pest control.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments I started The Book of Lost Names yesterday. My friend in Michigan recommended it to me. I’m not usually a historical fiction reader but I am getting into this one.
