lol!

True. You just reminded me of a conversation I had in HS. I was talking to some friends about clothes and hand-me-downs - and one of my friends said, "It doesn't matter if you find it in a gutter, girl cute is cute. I'll wear it."

:D

Truth.

I was always the same way about stores. Back in the day, when I was more involved in Goth groups, there was always this sort of snide reaction of "old school goths" towards places like Hot Topic.

To me, Hot Topic was a wonder - especially in the days before internet shopping was the thing it's become.

One day I was walking to the train station, and this guy liked my pants (trousers for you Brits) and asked where I got them and when I said Hot Topic he stuck his nose up and was like, "Ew, I would never shop *there*", and I'm like "That's stupid. If you like the pants, does it really matter where they come from?"

Fucking hipsters. ;)

Or should I say cock juggling thunder cunt hipsters!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Are you kidding? I'm wearing a pair of Wranglers I got at Walmart...apparently the world's most evil store.

If I could afford it I'd be glad to buy them from a smaller local merchant who has to charge like $75 for them but I can't. And they're still jeans.

I also drink tea from tea bags now and then (instead of loose leaf) and drive an 18 year old Nissan...

(Come to think of it the Nissan will be considered an antique in 2 years so it may be fashionable again then.)

HA! I bet he felt dumb inside.

I have an issue about Hot Topic but not that, lol. I have a cousin who is visually impaired and we're really close. One day she was having some back pain and wanted an electric massager. We went to the mall and wandered from store to store looking for one. Finally, grasping at straws, we stopped in Hot Topic.

>.>

<.<

They said "Yes, we do." and proceeded to show us.

It was a vibrating dildo. O_O

Before I could say anything, the chick popped it out of the box, turned it on and handed it to my cousin. I'll never forget the way I felt standing in the middle of the store while my cousin looked at a vibrator. I was still pretty young so the embarrassment level was rather high.

And that's what I think about every time I even see the sign.

Ha! That's like this catalogue I get - The Pyramid Collection - and they have a selection of "personal massagers" which are all dildos and whatnot.

I have no cool Hot Topic stories. I just remember when they first came out and I still used to go to the mall with my sister she hated going in there because she felt like they were judging her, and I was like, "Now you know how I feel when we go into every other store."

Now my issue is that I go in there and there's all these teeny boppers and I'm like, "I'm too old to still be shopping here... "

But I do it anyway. ;)

I just got rid of my 17 year old Toyota a few months ago. I'm so glad to not constantly be worried my car is going to fall apart around me while I'm driving now!

And I always use tea bags. They're so convenient! The only reason I'd even think of switching was so that I could buy a cute infuser. ;)

LOLOLOL!!

I used to get that catalog! Still do sometimes. They have the most wonderful selection of crap that I'll never need but BOY do I want. That's also uber expensive for no reason.

Except one year they had a full length velvet (looking at least) hooded cloak. Damn I wanted that cloak so bad. It was so not in the budget. I would have looked fierce in that thing.

They really are ludicrously expensive. And the shipping is the worst. I almost never buy anything from there, and if I do see something I like, I try to find it somewhere else.

I started drinking coffee when I was living in Ireland, because my then-husband drank it constantly.

It was Maxwell instant, iirc.

I was so bummed when I came back to the States and couldn't find it sold here!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Actually my Toyota runs great. I need to take it in because I hit a deep pothole last winter and the left front has a "shimmy" in it. Other than that and the fact it uses some oil it's great. I hope it remains so. No real shot at replacing it.

Mostly I read books I like without too much reference to the writer's sex, race, or species. I'm pretty sure some of the self published books I've read were written by non-human authors.

And we're not necessarily talking superior intellect here.

Probably not. But I probably won't be able to find it in English here, and whether the translation is Dutch or German doesn't matter much I guess.

Let me correct that... For once I can actually get the English version at my library!

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments For anyone with Amazon Prime... Have you checked out Prime Music yet? It's like Pandora but with unlimited skipping and no commercials. They don't have unlimited songs available on it, but they have do have a huge selection! You can get an app for your phone and use it just like Pandora or Spotify. And it even shows the lyrics during every song that plays, which I love because I am an annoying sing alonger.

I just recently tried it and really like it, so I thought I'd share. Although it's quite possible everyone already knows about it and I'm late to the trend. That's usually the case :)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Back when...my wife was an artist and a crafter. I've had several hobbies through the years but, "back then" I used to paint 20mm figures (warriors, dragons, wizards, sci/fi etc. I still have a few hundred boxed in the attic as I don't have room to display them any more.)

Anyway we had a table (the same on I still do leather work at) where I'd sit on one side and she on the other. After a while in looking for something we could do together we began making bookmarks. Mostly we used ribbons (of different widths) with beads, charms etc. They have "whatever" on each end with a strip of ribbon to lay in the book. By the end we were also doing the "stretchy" bookmarks of thin cord.

I still have a good number of those hanging on a pegboard. We of course had to stop as her health got worse and I seldom make one now but I have so many I don't have to worry about finding a bookmark.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I tend to use receipts from the library, or old train passes, as they tend to be the most handy. I have a few actual bookmarks, but I rarely remember to use them.

message 3097: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I'm a freak for bookmarks. My bookish friends from GR and my sister have helped to indulge me by sending me bookmarks from around different parts of the world. I have from Hawaii, Japan, Australia, England and Ireland. Those are just collectibles. Plus, I have some handmade ones that GR users have sent me and ones that I've just picked up along the way.

Regularly I use these book darts (https://www.canoeonline.net/shop/insp...) I got from a Book Riot Quarterly box. They're great for page holding and marking off passages/quotes. I also sometimes use paper bookmarks from Goulet Pens...they give them out for free when you order from there.
