Yea, it looks good! I want one too, but I think I'm gonna have to stick with my Paperwhite for now... :(

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Yeah, I'd love a new one, but can't see dropping that much money to replace something that works fine as is.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Avast mateys....Popeye can be a pirate if he wants to! Though now that you mention it I guess he was more likely to beat up pirates.

aarrrr....

Leland (lelandhw) | 63 comments The flush bezal looks really sharp! The feature that I saw that excites me is the family share. Family members can now connect Kindle accounts and read each others books. This would be super handy for me as Lainie has all those Iron Druid books I've been wanting to read and so far I'm stuck stealing her old kindle keyboard. I don't know if this feature will be made available for paperwhite.

I'm also quite curious about the bezel pageturn. I'd like to put my hands on a demo kindle somewhere to see how sensitive it is. I worry I'd be forever turning pages when I didn't mean to do so. I also get a great deal of fatigue and pain in my wrists and hands when reading chunksters. Do I give them up? Hell No! LOL

This drives me insane too. I keep telling myself I'm being picky, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that gets irate about a little line of dust. I've had some luck cleaning that with a q-tip. I've even had fine little hairs get stuck in that raised bezel. Q-tips don't help with the little hairs.

message 2166: by Felina (new)

Felina I still prefer my second gen Kindle. I got the touch screen and it drove me nuts so I traded it with my SIL.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Nicki wrote: "Yeah, there's not a huge amount of new features for Paperwhite owners. For me the two selling points are the bezel pageturns and the flush bezel. I was really reluctant to switch to a touch-based d..."

I agree, swiping to turn the page is annoying. I hated that if I wanted to read left-handed with my Nook, I would have to swipe to turn the page. I am a tapper. I'd much rather just tap the screen to turn the page. That's one of the selling points for my kindle purchase recently - the huge area of forward page-turn tappability. Only a thin little section of the left side (or a swipe) will make me go backwards. Love it.

As far as the dust... try compressed air?

Mine has several buttons. Love every one of them.
Love it better than any new ones I've seen. So much so, that I replaced the screen (all by myself) after I sat on it.
Those were some hairy days.
;)

message 2177: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I miss buttons too! I like a touch screen. But for turning pages I prefer buttons over touch screen. I'm constantly flipping between pages because I flip to the previous page by mistake. Also- and this might be my compulsive side showing- I try to use both sides of the device evenly. I turn even numbered pages with the right. Odd with the left. So one side doesn't give out sooner than the other. Does that even happen.... ??? Probably not.

BTW, I get cat hair everywhere! Everywhere! Well- my cats do anyway. I figure it's their way of marking is. Wherever we go, we take a part of them with us throughout the day. Lol.
I do love finding whiskers though. They're like four leaf clovers.
I love my cats... In a way most parents live their children. And more than some. :)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I always wear dark colors... We have a white and yellow cat. Think about it.

message 2179: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I have a gray and white boy, and there's a gray and white tabby boy. Dark clothes pick up the white, light clothes the gray. And I swear, they both shed like wookies. Can't win. Before that we had a black and white cat.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I have to remember to use the tape roller before I ever leave the house...

message 2181: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I have a white cat with black cow spots, and a black girl cat. Indica doesn't shed as much as Alfie, but she does shed... Alfie though... You could think about touching him and end up with a handful of fur.

message 2182: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I picture a big fluffy cat sneezing and his fur puffing out... My girl cat hardly shed. But the boys are just hairy monsters... I wonder if boys shed more than girls? My boys are part Maine Coon though, so they tend to have lots of fur.

message 2183: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) He's not even that fluffy!

This is Alfie about 2 weeks after we got Indica... she just snuggled up next to him (I think for warmth.. she HATES being cold) and he was too stubborn to give up his spot for a little furball that was trying to move in on his territory, so he just... shared.

We still have that piece of cat furniture... It's now a dark gray thanks to her fur all over it.

message 2184: by Felina (new)

Felina Indica is so cute!

message 2185: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Of course she is! She isn't that little anymore - this was taken in 2009. Alfie still looks the same though. LOL

This is what Indica looks like now:

or when she's wallowing for attention...

Lee | 939 comments I love rag dolls. I've always wanted either a rag doll or a Maine Coon. We lucked into getting a mix. Mamma cat was a regular cat. Sweetest cats I've ever had. Truly gentle giants. And now that I've said that... my cat just picked a fight with his brother... Boys! Lol.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Speaking of cats... I apparently took in a kitten over the weekend. I have two cats and a greyhound, so I wasn't in the market for another pet... But some asshole dumped this adorable kitten in a box by the side of the road. Didn't help that when we found it all it wanted to do was cuddle and be pet, and when we tried once to walk away (horrible, I know, I don't think I could have made it far anyway), it ran right after us.

It's so affectionate and tiny and cute.. For now, I'm not necessarily saying I'll keep it. But I have it set up in a bathroom and am going to take it to the vet to get a check up as soon as I can get an appointment. Expensive... But better than just leaving it there to freeze and die. We'll see what happens... Maybe I now have 3 cats. Geez :P

message 2199: by Leland (new)

Leland (lelandhw) | 63 comments 4 pets isn't so bad Dawn, especially with cats and greyhounds. Greyhounds look like big dogs, but really they fold up small. :) is it a rescue? We've had three greys.

message 2200: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Yes, the greyhound is a rescue. And he's HUGE. Big even for a greyhound. At least he's easy to take care of. He's basically a cat himself :P
