Now that's a GOOD book! Have you already read the rest of his stuff?

Oh yes! I LOVE Terry Pratchett! I've read and re-read nearly everything he's written. His Discworld books are probably my absolute favourites, and they only get better with re-reading.

I still have The Long Mars on my shelf waiting. I am really looking forward to it.

Those are the ones I haven't read yet - I'm assuming you enjoyed The Long Earth? I'd saved Raising Steam until I finished the writing I needed to do. It's a bit of a treat :)
I've started A King's Ransom by Sharon Kay Penman. It's the sequel to Lionheart and the story of Richard the Lionheart, 1157-1199. It begins in 1191 after his crusade to the Holy Land where he tried to win back Jerusalem from the Saladin of the Ottoman Empire. I really like Penman's writing; she deals in facts and add none of the histrionics some Hist Fict Authors pepper their novel with.
I finished The Light of Evening by Edna O'Brien. My first by this author but unfortunately not a good introduction:(

I wasn't as thrilled with Lost and Found as some here, but have just started First Impressions: A Novel of Old Books, Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen
and am really enjoying it
I have a couple on the go:Tumbledown Manor by Helen Brown (she who wrote Cleo ) - Contemporary Women's Fiction
After the Armistice Ball by Catriona McPherson - Mystery (set in 1920s Scotland)
Throwaway Girl by Kristine Scarrow- Contemporary YA (set in Canada)
I'm currently enjoying The Poet's Wife by Rebecca Stonehill. Set in Spain it tells the story of an upper class family and a family of gypsies they befriend from the 1920s and through the Spanish civil war.
Here's my review for Her Mistletoe Cowboy by Alissa Callen which is due out on 20th October

I'm reading The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy - it's a large book and the size was a little daunting, but I'm reading it with a friend, which is helpful, especially at the beginning - I found it a bit slow, but she was ahead of me and told me it got better! It did - and now I'm enjoying it. I've finished the first section and am looking forward to seeing where the story goes in the next!

I have very fond memories if that being made into a TV series when I was young and living in England. It was so popular everyone was watching it. Later I read the books and really enjoyed them.

Showing my age here, but I remember watching re-runs of the BBC series as a teenager in the 70s and then reading my Mum's collection of the books. It was probably the first epic series I ever read and I thought it was fabulous! Let us know how you enjoy the rest of the series :)
Phrynne wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I'm reading The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy - it's a large book and the size was a little daunting, but I'm reading it with a friend, which is helpfu..."Phrynne and Carolyn - I haven't seen the series, although I knew it had been made into something like that, but sounds like it might be worth getting the DVDs out of the library after I finish. Although it looks like there's several versions - at least 2 - B&W and colour - my library only has the colour version...
Showing my age too - the series I watched starred Nyree Dawn Porter as Irene and a young Susan Hampshire as Fleur.
Phrynne wrote: "Showing my age too - the series I watched starred Nyree Dawn Porter as Irene and a young Susan Hampshire as Fleur."NOT the one my library has - it's a 2002 version (I think) with Gina McKee as Irene. I might still watch it...sometime!!

I looked it up. It was shown on BBC2 in 1967 and then again on BBC1 in 1968. 18 million people watched the final episode which was huge in those days! Okay Carolyn - if that's the one you watched too then we ARE old :)

They probably repeated it a few times. It was definitely the series with Susan Hampshire.

It was compulsory watching on a Sunday night.
Phrynne wrote: "Showing my age too - the series I watched starred Nyree Dawn Porter as Irene and a young Susan Hampshire as Fleur."I loved them both - I thought they were the most beautiful women. I had a real girly crush on them :)

And Eric Porter was the most hated man in the UK when he hurt Irene:)

I read The Forsyte Sagamany years later and I 'saw' all of the TV characters as I read it :)
Bette BookAddict wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I'm reading The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy - it's a large book and the size was a little daunting, but I'm reading it with a friend, which is helpfu..."This will be the one I will be borrowing, Bette, whenever I get around to it!
I must say that
is definitely looking like a 5 ★ read....I have asked for Charlie Lovett's 3rd book
from my good friends at Text Publishing on the strength of this one.
Finished
now. Looking for what to read next. Better be good after the last two. It has a bit to live up to.

Did you enjoy it Dale?

Very much so Brenda and yes, Kathryn I often find it hard after reading a really good book or two to settle to another. It often induces several discards before I settle. One down so far, maybe two.
For Halloween week, I want to read
. :D I like to theme-read sometimes. Last Christmas was the first time I read
, which was a very enjoyable experience.
- Not the cover I've got for this book BUT I got a preview copy..So, yeah..changes happen...And it looks like the writers name has changed too (slightly).I've almost read up to 80 pages while I waited for the washing machine to be done..FINALLY, a book I'm enjoying after a few blegh books. But oddly enough I'm not trying to read books to do with Italian's and it seems to be following me around..lol
