K | 1143 comments Ooh, I not long ago purchased the Miniaturist. It looks like such a good read. I am excited about it. :) I will not read you review, yet. I usually see what people think about books after I have read them. :)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I've put uni work aside for the weekend to speed through Tomorrow, When the War Began for the first time. With all the time and energy my first year of uni has occupied, I'd nearly forgotten how good it is to lose yourself in a book for hours.

Carolyn | 9840 comments Hope you enjoy it Jess! I read the first book for the YA and liked it so much I bought the DVD of the movie which everyone here said is really good.

Oh man that's probably one of my favourite series. It's a bit less awesome now that I'm not in my teens but still pretty great :P

Rita Chapman | 151 comments I've just finished Dangerous Liaisons by Sarah Stuart, a Goodreads author. Weaved around the wonderful world of theatre, musicals and song, it tells the story of Michael and Lizzie’s love, their successes and failures as well as Lizzie’s historical links to a Tudor Queen.

I really liked it too. I remember feeling a bit unsettled after reading it the first time - I think it was because (unlike so many books) it was set in Australia, and a familiar Australia.

Our family really liked the movie, even though a couple of the characters weren't quite what we expected - you know how your imagination pictures them differently?

I thought the film was lovely:)
The books were good too although I gave up after three of them because I became tired of the author's moralising. He kept justifying the character's actions to the point where it held up the story. Apart from that they were great!

That's an interesting thought on how the writer wrote the characters. I fell off the bandwagon with the books but not for that reason...Mine, I kinda lost interest..But it was one of the first series I paid serious attention too.

I always feel like I should go back and read them and see what I now think of them as opposed to when I was just a teenager. And now your comment makes me curious too.

I just felt that knowing his audience was YA he continually had to justify the fact that his teenage characters were having sex and were also killing people. He was right to do this but it began to get repetitive !

message 10984: by Sapphire (new)

Sapphire Purcell I'm almost at the end of China: A History (Volume 1): From Neolithic Cultures through the Great Qing Empire,. It's been a fascinating read and sometimes it's nice to do some non-fiction reading for pleasure. Although it's a big book and I'm feeling the itch for something fictional again.

message 10987: by Angela (new)

Angela | 351 comments Like Jess, I'd love to dive into the next one just to see where he takes it but I remember why I got bored with it in high school: not enough dialogue and big chunky paragraphs (or so I thought at 14 anyway).

Interesting to see all the comments on the film. I am intrigued now!!
