It's on order at the library, I've reserved it.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I finished Here be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman: set in 1183, medieval Wales and England, King John, his daughter Joanna (g-daughter of Eleanor of Aquitane) and her Welsh Prince husband, Llewelyn. Nobody tell medieval history as well as Penman does. 4.5★

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments I've just finished The White Guard. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

For something completely different, I've started re-reading But Enough About Me: A Jersey Girl's Unlikely Adventures Among the Absurdly Famous, and I'm also listening to Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us which is very interesting.

A new 'at work' read and a new 'late at night fluffy' read

My daughter has given me the whole Shalvis collection - they look good. I think next year will be less review books (unless they are by a known author I love) and more digging into the wonderful books on my TBR pile!!!

Sally Howes | 223 comments I recently read a book of the most terrible beauty. It is called The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan. It deserves more than 5★s.

Ace (aceonroam) Three more books added, thanks Sally, Bette and Mish :)

message 11118: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Reading A Place of Greater Safety. It may well be Aust in 2014 but I am deep in the French Revolution. The printing presses are running hot with anti-government newspapers and the Bastille has fallen. Danton, Robespieree and Desmoulins are conspiring for "Liberty". Louis and Antoinette have started to fear for their safety, Phillippe is waiting to step into Louis’s position, it’s stinking hot, bread prices have soared and the peasants are revolting, in more ways than one:)

I haven't got round to that one yet. Have you read Fludd? It is so different from her usual work but I loved it.

message 11120: by B the BookAddict (new)

Is it as engaging as Wolf Hall Bette? So far that's the only Hilary Mantel (plus one short story from her new collection) that I've read, and I loved it. If she was able to hook me into the French Revolution I'd be very interested.

Jo Rushby | 238 comments Bette you have whetted my appetite for your book. I have started reading Les miserables by Victor Hugo.

message 11125: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I'm reading and enjoying Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. I know Janine read it last year and it was one of her top 5 reads of the year and I have to agree that it is drawing me in. It's a very easy read, which is nice as I've had some heavier, non-fiction reads of late, so this is a refreshing change.

Agree Carolyn, I suddenly got a hankering for stewed fruit and custard. Resisted as it would have meant leaving the book to go to the supermarket.

Dale Harcombe | 6886 comments Currently reading The Black Box (Harry Bosch, #18) by Michael Connelly
which I won through a promotions in Good Reading magazine. First time I have ever won a book through Good Reading.

message 11144: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Andrea I actually think it is better than Wolf Hall. It is more easy going on the reader, you are aware of which character is narrating at different times. And of course, for me, it's all new stuff as in Wolf Hall, I already knew what the outcome regarding Henry, Anne Boleyn and Cromwell. In In A Place Of Greater Safety, I do know what happens to Louis and Antoinette, but the main agitators Desmoulins, Robespierre and Danton were, till now, completely unknown to me.

Hi Erin, you've caught my interest there as I am a huge fan of Jack Reacher, but I've been looking online and I think the author (actually Paul Lindsay) has passed away back in 2011. Might be the last one in this series sadly..
