Your review sounds a bit like I'm feeling with Sisters Of Mercy by Caroline Overington. Am finding it a bit of a slog at the moment.

It's sad when reading a book becomes a chore instead of a pleasure isn't it? Especially when there are still so many GOOD books out there waiting.

It's probably not so much that it's not a well written book, but I really don't like the main character at all. It's one of my Aussie Author Challenge books, so I'll persist, but it might take me a while. I took a small comfort read foray into Hot Money by Dick Francis last night instead. Easy reading, fun characters and not too deep.
Hi everyone, I have just finished reading The Secret Life of Bees. I loved it! Sue Monk Kidd is a wonderful writer and I connect with her stories easily.

Having just read "Anything You Can Do..." by Randall Garrett, I am moving on to the science fiction short story "Arm of the Law" by Harry Harrison. I have started a ReadUp for the reading if folks are likely to finish the book in the next five days. Here is the link: http://rdup.me/i2fnk1swtbuik9

One of those is Mark F. Smith, a chap that also does paid narration.

Got a good start on A Stolen Life on a flight home tonight. As a memoir it's hard to read but I do like it so far.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...This is my first Ruth Rendell. She is a clever witty writer. If I was not committed to the Chandler/ Hammett style, I would write like Ms Rendell.

I have just finished rereading The Bone Season the first in what is meant to be a seven book series. It was just as good as the first time around if not better. I can't wait for the sequel (to be released in January).

It was a wonderful read Marianne. It took me a while to work out the connection between Bryon and Jim. I think Joyce handled beautifully the issue of mental illness and it's causes. ..."
It was a wonderful read, Michael. I thought she portrayed OCD very well. I had suspicions about Jim early on....
