I'm probably not far enough in to judge it yet. It is sweet, a little bland. As I get more involved with the characters I'm sure I will like it very much.

So glad it wasn't just me Carolyn! I really detest giving up on a book but I just could not perservere with this one.

That's too mean.

I've also moved onto a book I can only describe as a hipster book; A Death in the Family by Karl Ove Knausgård

Thanks for your review, which has reignited my interest in Kathy Reichs' Tempe novels. I think she went very stale for a while IMHO.

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments I've just started reading Looking for Alibrandi, a book that has been on my TBR list for years. Don't know why I've never gotten around to it before. My copy from the library is brand new, not a single spot or crease in it, which tells me it is still in high demand - perhaps it is still on the VCE/HSC reading lists?

Mish | 3601 comments I finished 2 books recently

1) Mona by Dan T. Sehlberg - which I'd like to thank Brenda and Scribe for organising the giveaway, but unfortunately, the subject matter wasn't my cup of tea :( But I'm sure fans of this genre will like it.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

2) If I Fall, If I Die: A Novel by Michael Christie - a book I downloaded from netgalley that's not due out till 20th Jan 15. I loved this book so much that I had to write something small down on my review.

I'm currently reading Golden Boys by Sonya Hartnett

He is a great author Alex, isn't he? I saw him at a couple of writer's festivals/events and he is a funny guy. Very dry sense of humour as you can imagine. The TV movies are worth a watch too :)

I actually don't mind it Jen. I'm only 20 or so pages in but I am feeling bit uneasy. I have a sense something is not right with a few of the boys 'home life' but at this stage it's all a mystery...they are not saying much but dropping hints.

So yeah, at this stage it's going well.

message 10336: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I am reading two wonderful books at the moment - most unusual to have two great reads at once.

I am reading Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday as a "proper" book and am really enjoying the collection of correspondence, diary entries, business and government documents etc through which this story is told.

And I am reading Whatever You Do, Don't Run: My Adventures As A Botswana Safari Guide by Australian author, Peter Allison as an e-book, and it is making me laugh (and groan) aloud!!

I Loved Salmon Fishing enough to get all his other books (not that many as, unfortunately, he died last year) and have also enjoyed The Irresistible Inheritance Of Wilberforce. Torday has written each of his novels in a different style.

Yes, I noticed he'd written quite a few others. I like the look of The Legacy of Hartlepool Hall.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I have all but that one, and the the two short stories Breakfast at the Hotel Déjà Vu and Theo: A Novella, which will be out in one volume next month and on their way to me then. Have only read two of his books so far but I liked them enough to want the rest. And while they aren't a series, there is some character overlap, I always like that.

Oh, I hadn't realised that! Like Maeve Binchy's Quentins and Tara Road and Scarlet Feather etc - I like that better than a proper series!!
