Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I finished Nest Nest by Inga Simpson by Inga Simpson yesterday but it's such a beautiful book that it took me a while to work out what to leave out of my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... (still too long, but you can satisfy yourselves with the short version if you are impatient)
Definitely 5★s I have to buy my own copy now as this one has to go back to the library...

And here I was thinking it wasn't out until 24th Sept. Completely deflated, I was. Serve me right for wanting to gloat....

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments I finished reading The Magpies by Mark EdwardsMark Edwards. Excellent psychological suspense. On the downside, a few of the explicit sex scenes (think the female licking her finger and giving the male a prostate examination) added nothing to the story.

Question: Can you usually tell from reading a sex scene whether a male of female wrote it?

From my reading, I find male authors tend to be more about the physical actions, females the sensations.

I don't think I can always tell if a man or woman has written a sex scene but I usually just end up laughing at them anyway. Try the ones in Fifty Shades of Grey. I defy you not to have a good giggle at least:)

In Jaspar's War it was painfully obvious to me that it was written by a male author as his female protagonist was portrayed as someone with a really weird sense of what a woman's desires are, and then went into way too much detail about it. In fact it was one of the things that occurred to me while I was reading it and wondering "what's wrong with this picture".
