Brenda, I recommend Hunting the Wild Pineapple by Thea Astley. It's an entertaining read if a bit much in places.

Thanks Greg.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments my book reading is taking a bit of a hit at the moment, because the beginning of the month is when the pharmacy journals arrive and I HAVE to spend half my reading time on them, then reward myself with fiction. Luckily, I am close to the end now....

Adhityani (dhitri) I just caught up on Booker Prize 2014 news - too few women are on the long list! I have read one of the three books by women writers (that's 30% lol) so now I am resolved to read the other two... Starting The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt.

Why doesn't anybody say that there are far too many women? Why, because it would be sexist.

Carolyn | 9840 comments I'm reading the first of my classics for the Aussie Author challenge The Women In Black by Madeleine St. John.
It's very good and quite humorous. It's about a schoolgirl who takes a summer job in the dress department of a David Jones-like department store and reminds me of casual summer jobs I had working in clothing stores as a student.

Tony Brooks Oh Greg, you must have a death wish, mate. My current favorite (refuse to say 'fav') author is Nicole Trope - reading The Secrets in Silence. I've tapped into the SA thread but am happy to talk books and reading with all you Aussies. Not afraid to say I barrack for the Crows.

It is excellent isn't it. I think it should be compulsorary school reading - grief is something we all experience but no one talks about it. This says all the things you need to hear but no one tells you.

I have my Goodreads set on "desktop" when I'm using my phone, so I can do exactly the same as on the laptop...I can't do it when it's set "normal" on the phone.

Not sure whether you can get desktop (don't know what phone you're using) but if you can, you should be able to do it:)

Ashleigh, I beg to (respectfully!) differ with Michael! I'm a rebel and I always use Safari when I'm accessing GR on my iPad. I've installed the app, but rarely use it - I find using the browser generally works really well and then I can link books, reply to comments easier and generally do everything that I can on the desktop.

message 9943: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments However, I'm also the one who has posted some things on here asking how I restore this, that or the other because I've inadvertently clicked on a link or something on the iPad and certain functionalities have disappeared!! But I've only done this once or twice, and have always managed to get back whatever disappeared!

Sally906 | 87 comments Conservative rebels have their place :)

I use safari to access goodreads on my iPad - have a link to it on my front page.

I have the app on my iPhone but only use it to record my progresses and add books. Find commenting to be very difficult as can't reply to a post just comment at the end.

The app on the iPhone is also useful when I go to the library hoping to pick up a particular book or two (or perhaps more!) only to find that they can't be found or that someone else has snaffled them first and then I can check my app to see which other books that I want to read might be available.

Personally, I find Safari on the iPhone is a bit too small to use with ease. If I'm using GR on the phone, the app is mostly the best option, but the desktop works well to access it on the iPad.
