I am reading A Confederate General from Big Sur by Richard Brautigan. I am reading everything by him. I have read all his poetry, now I am reading his prose.

Just started When Fraser Met Billy by Louise Booth for my Winter challenge nonfiction book. Loving it so far!
I'm starting two new books today; Questions of Travel for the August challenge and The Love of a Good Woman for bookclub. Not too sure about the Alice Munro pick, as I go through phases of love/detest with short story collections, and at this point have not read one for a long time. Still, it's meant to be a good introduction to her work, so we'll see,
I didn't agree with last years Miles Franklin winner Questions of Travel, but I'm certainly liking All the Birds, Singing and can see how this one was chosen!
Marianne wrote: "I didn't agree with last years Miles Franklin winner Questions of Travel, but I'm certainly liking All the Birds, Singing and can see how this one was chosen!"I haven't read either of these, Marianne, although something made me add both to my list, but at the moment I'm reading the 2012 winner, All That I Am, and am enjoying it so far, so I hope it will be good all the way through.

Oh, I've read Questions of Travel, but had also read The Light Between Oceans which was on the longlist for 2013 and if I'd been a judge, that would have won for sure over QoT.

I will be interested to know what you think of QoT when you get to it....

Finished The White Tiger this morning. I suppose this will fit into the August challenge as Literary Fiction, although less of the Literary and more of the Fiction, I think. Obviously the Man Booker people in 2008 didn't agree.....at least it will fit in the challenge as TBR
don't think I need to read any more by Aravind Adiga
3★s my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Trying to power through my Winter Challenge, so I am now onto my audiobook for the Nat Tree Day choice: October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard by Lesléa Newman...which is my second choice because my first choice of Eucalyptus by Murray Bail was no longer available from my library :( Have also started another Buddy read with Carolyn..our 4th in the Anya Chrichton series: Blood Born by Kathryn Fox as another TBR choice.
Marianne said 'Oh, I've read Questions of Travel, but had also read The Light Between Oceans which was on the longlist for 2013 and if I'd been a judge, that would have won for sure over QoT.'I agree Marianne. Read and loved The Light Between Oceans. Couldn't get into Questions of Travel. My husband also tried Questions of Travel and abandoned it too.

I've had Questions of Travel on my TBR pile for ages and for some reason just can't seem to get to it...I keep picking it up for a look and then change my mind again :( whereas I couldn't put down The Light Between Oceans!!
At the moment reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd and am enjoying it so far, but I have to say the writing and plot is all very Oprah-esque...
I really will have to get around to reading my copy of The Light Between Oceans I hear mostly good about it!I have just finished Top Secret Twenty-one and Janet Evanovich is back on form again, loved it! I so want a 'minion' but worried there might be ructions if I get a starcat as well! ( what's a starcat I hear you wonder - read
Frontier Incursion by Leonie Rogers - many in this group have fallen in love with these delightful creatures)I have now picked up When the Night Comes by Favel Parrett which is an August release.

QoT is a hard book to get into and even then I thought it was a very pretentious read.

That's a point Marianne. But it would be fun trying,
Well, the only Kindle reading I do is on my PC so today when Larger Than Life downloaded, I sat here and read it while my hair colour took effect (gotta cover that grey tidemark, going to see Karin Slaughter on Wednesday!!)Now I am really looking forward to reading Leaving Time in October.
Anyway, excellent value for a freebie!! (I would have paid for it, come to that) 5★s
