message 7864: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pjaye) I finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt yesterday and gave it 4 stars. Loved the writing and the overall story.
Just like in real life, I did find the main characters frustrating at times, so much potential but so many bad choices. There were times I wanted to reach into the story and shake Theo and tell him "snap out of it" and stop screwing up his life.

Staying with the 'art' theme, I started The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro. Only about 10% in but liking it so far and been wanting to read it for a while.

I did the ugly cry for so long at the end of this book that I woke up the next day with swollen eyes and a headache.
Definitely one of my top 5 books of all time.

Thanks so much, Sally! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. The next one is currently in the editing stage and the cover art is underway, so it should be out in the next couple of months if all goes to plan. Will be catching up with my publisher in Sydney in a couple of weeks.

Can totally relate Sharon. It really was a wonderful story/book. I was the same when I finished it...both times!!! Tears were streaming down my face. I'm seeing the movie on Wednesday. I have only heard positive reviews about it so can't wait.

I've seen the movie and loved it. I had tears in my eyes at the end of it, but no where as bad as reading the book. Hope you enjoy the movie :)

message 7893: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Thanks Brenda and Sharon. Michael I'll let you know. I've had so many people coming in and buying the book because they saw the movie and thought it was so wonderful, they wanted to read it. I've yet to hear anything negative about it. And I'm using my gold class voucher so should be a real treat. :)

I have this on my Kindle. How far in before it hooked you, Sharon? I have this on my Kindle and would've probably ditched it after 10 pages if I was struggling (so many books, so little time) if I hadn't read your comment.

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments If I had to choose a favourite author, it'd be Erica Spindler. She writes fast-paced easy reads with lots of suspense. I read half of her latest, Justice for Sara in one sitting yesterday and didn't want to put it down. Highly recommended.

I know I'm a bit strange, and definitely in the minority as far as this book goes, but I found the first 90% rather ordinary, and the last 10% was the best (although I did find it improved once Max entered the scene about halfway through) - but too little, too late to redeem the book for me. Hope you get engrossed a bit sooner than that, Vicki!
