Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) From everything I've heard/read it is an incredibly underrated/unknown gem, so hopefully I enjoy it.

Bette, thanks for the recommendation! So I knew I'd seen this book at Salvos somewhere recently, there it was at Salvos Dapto for $6. So it's on your head! I've read, by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love, andCommitted: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage and The Last American Man, and I thought your description of EPL (turnip) was very apt, so I am trusting you on this one!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments One of my book club friends put me onto J.R. Ward, and I've enjoyed all the BDB series, now onto the 5th book in the Fallen Angels series, just picked up my reserved copy at the library, Possession: a Novel of the Fallen Angels, very addictive.....

Am I right to assume you're reading all three parts, which conclude in Oath of Gold? To get a proper perspective, it's important to read all three, I think.

I loved The Rehearsal too Michael. It's one of my favourite books so far this year. I enjoyed the way the two strands of the novel, the drama school and the music lessons, wove around each other to eventually join up. It's a very sophisticated book for such a young author. I'm looking forward to reading The Luminaries when I can get hold of a copy.

Hi:) I guess I had the grim reality of Necessary Lies still stuck with me. Compared to that, 'Midwives' was just a plain fiction.

message 8030: by Diane (new)

Diane | 14 comments I am about 50 pages into "Seductive Cinema" by
James Card. I had read it many years ago but I
was still surprised to find a really churlish
review of it so I started to read it again. My
main comment is "did the reviewer even read the
same book". She was very miffed that no foreign
films were given respect but Card is crediting
the foreign film-makers with a lot of the innovations
that D.W. Griffith claimed.

I have just read your review and it made me add the book to my TBR list so I can see why the author would "like" it!

I have just finished Aussie author Joanne van Os' new release Ronan's Echo. A huge 5 stars from me! I hope I have done the book justice in my review - it was a hard one to write, to be able to convey how much it meant to me.
